  • TS3276 I can receive emails but I cannot send them. I have recently renewed my password. What do I do to send emails please?

Help! I can receive emails but I cannot send them. I have recently changed my password. What am I doing wrong?

You need to open Mail>Preferences>Accounts>"Account Information" tab>and there input the required information for your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).  Your Internet Service Provider will have the required information to give you to input here.  Make sure that you also click at the end of the line "Outgoing Mail Server" on the arrows to get the dropdown list, and there click on "Edit SMTP Server List" and fill in the data in that resulting window also.

I can recieve emails but cannot send them

Go to Mail>Preferences. Select the account that you cannot send e-mails. What does the line item, "Outgoing Mail Server" say? If none is selected, select one that best associated with the account.

I can receive emails, but I cannot send emails.

Can you be a bit more specific, since all you've provided is a vague statement?
Are you using webmail?  An email client?  If an email client, which one?  What are your settings?  Was it working before?  Getting any error messages?  If so, what are they EXACTLY?
If you're using webmail, what browser are you using?  What's your operating system?  Again, was it working before?  What happens when you try to send an email?
Remember, when posting to a Help forum, we are not sitting next to you or have access to your computer, so giving as much information [no personal identifying information, however] as possible goes a long way in helping you resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Thank you for heading me in the right direction.  I reset my Mail account for Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net:(customer ID)@att.net (instead of smtp.att.yahoo.com, per Apple's online troubleshooting information).   I'm not sure what "(Offline)" means when it appears at the end of my Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)??  In the Advanced box I clicked on "Use custom port:  465" and checked "Use Secure Sockets Layer."  Authentication:  Password; I have correct User Name and Password put in.  After doing all this, when I try to send emails again today, they go directly to the Outbox and sit there.
What's curious is that my first sent email this morning did go out using the Outgoing Mail Server, smtp.att.yahoo.com: (customer ID)@att.net(Offline) but subsequent emails I tried to send with this server were rejected with the message:  "Cannot send message using the server smtp.att.yahoo.com (etc.).  The SMTP server doesn't support TLS(SSL) on port 587.  Verify your account settings and try again."  That's when I tried resetting my Outgoing Mail Server to outbound.att.net (etc.), as mentioned above, and was unsuccessful in sending out any further emails.  I guess my next step is to contact my email service provider, AT&T, and see if they can help me.  Thanks, again, for taking the time to respond and for giving me your input!  Much appreciated!

    Hey shahbazfromgbr,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand you are having issues with sound output on your iPhone 4S. For troubleshooting steps, the following article provides the best information:
iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1630
    1. Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
    2. Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
    3. While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
    4. Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
    5. For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
    6. If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
    7. Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
    8. If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (choose Settings > General > Bluetooth).
    9. Restart the iPhone.
    10. If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
    11. If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

When i answer a call the person on the other side can hear me but i cant hear them unless i put the loudspeaker on. So how can i resolve this

    Hi Bignut69,
I recommend the troubleshooting steps in this article if the microphone on your iPhone is not working:
Make sure nothing is plugged in to the jack connector.
Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (see the pictures below to locate the microphones on your device)
Make sure none of the microphones is obstructed by dirt or debris.
Turn the iPhone off and then on.
Make sure that the latest version of iOS is installed.
If necessary, find general iPhone hardware troubleshooting suggestions.
For further assistance, contact Apple Support.

  • TS1630 Hi i have an iphone 4 ive replaced the earpiece as i thought it might be that but its no different. If i rig a friend they can hear me but i cant hear them unless i put my fone on loudspeaker please help

Hi i have an iphone 4 ive replaced the earpiece as i thought it might be that but its no different. If i ring a friend they can hear me but i cant hear them unless i put my fone on loudspeaker please help

Assuming you mean that you opened the phone and replaced something inside, there's not much anyone here can recommend.
Find a competent repair shop or buy a new phone. Apple won't touch that one now.

Many times is is because the outgoing server settings are not correct.

Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • I can receive email bu i cant send.

I am using the mail application that came with the macbook. I can receive email, but I can't send email. It has something to do with the outgoing mail server..andy suggestions as to what I can do about this?

Hi swftrules: In order to send mail your Mail Application needs to be told what the settings are for the outgoing mail server. This is usually something like "smtp.mail.net". If you post back with more details we can probablly help you. Who is your internet service provider? Who is you eMail provider?

  • I can get email, but can not send it.

I'm having the same problem that a lot of people are. My personal email will go to my phone, but I can not reply or send an email from my phone. I had a blackberry before and never had any problems with it. It is a POP3 email, I entered all the servers and ports, and still can get it to send. I checked with clearwire, they couldn't help. Can anyone help me fix this? If not the phone is getting returned and a new blackberry in it's place. Thanks for any and all help.
