I can get online, but some program's won't connect

I can online just fine using IE7, but for some reason my other programs can't find a connection.  If I try to open up MS Word 2007's online help it states:
"Not Connected."
MS Groove states:
"Cannot connect to the provisioning server."
Are there any setting on my router that would disallow these programs to find the internet connection and still allow me online with other programs?
Thanks for the help.

Applications other than internet explorer are using different ports to go online. this port may be blocked by the NAT firewall on the router. You can actually trigger this port on the router but you will have to know first the port number used by the application. Here's an article in port triggering a linksys router for an email application. You may need different ports for the application your using but the procedure is the same
