I have a Brother MFC-J4610DW and can't get it to print from my 2012 iMac over my lan. It works with the macbook pro and iPad. The dialog box states "Setting up 'BrotherMFC-J4610..." Unable to communicate." I worked with the AppleCare guy for a couple of hours. We got it to print via USB but when we switched to ethernet hook up via Time Capsule it won't communicate or install the printer.

Try two things (separately, trying to add the printer in Print & Scan/fax prefs after each):
    Reset the printing system:

Reset the router - power it off for 15 secs, then back on. Some routers cause these kinds of errors - not recognizing devices are present.

  • Unibody adapter can transfer power supply neutral voltage

I hope this topic has not been mentioned before.
I have been using my unibody with the supplied and noticed that in some countries I get a tingle when I touch the computer. This is because the supply neutral carries some voltage. Even 5 volts (on a 240V) supply can cause a tingle when the body is touched. By the way, this is not a problem with UK power supplies.
I am considering purchasing an isolating transformer. Has anyone else come across the problem?
I overcome it by using the computer only when on batteries. However, I do worry if a power supply neutral is not properly earthed you could get a shock from the unibody.
I wonder of apple has an alternative power supply with an isolating transformer, other that the switching power supply as supplied.
Unfortunately this problem is specific to metal bodies only.

Hello HantuUK, and welcome to the boards.
AS long as you use the power adaptor with the three prong earthed cord rather than the two prong duckhead adaptor the problem does not occur unless the power source that you are plugging into is improperly earthed.
Poor earthing can, of course, be an issue in some countries, especially in remote areas and older buildings.
I've run into the issue myself in some remote Australian areas.
There have been quite a few threads about it over the years, often with strong debate about the actual cause. The problem has been around for a long time. I first ran into it with my old aluminium Powerbook 867MHz 12".

  • Anyone else waiting on a replacement Power Supply & Logic Board from Apple?

On Dec. 26, I took my iMac G5 to my local service provider to resolve some power issues under the Repair Extension Program. They ordered the part (new power supply and logic board) from Apple that very day, yet I'm still stuck here waiting 16 days later.
Anyone else out there waiting for this part to arrive? How long should it take? Can I call Apple directly in order to get a better estimate?
    Thanks!
    1.8 GHz iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

All right, so here's the latest plot changes in the ongoing saga of my iMac G5...
I spoke with two very kind and helpful women at Apple this afternoon. Both agreed that this sort of behavior from my AASP was certainly unacceptable. I was able to lodge a formal complaint against my AASP, as well.
My particular part order was given some sort of high priority status by Apple. I was asked to call back on Friday to receive an update on the order's status.
I was also asked to send a letter to Apple's Corporate Customer Care division explaining my situation in full. I'll try to send out this letter within the next few days.
So that's where we stand right now. No computer yet, but at least SOME progress is being made.

  • Fan & Power Supply Replacement Kit from 2003

    Hi All,
I was so excited to finally retire the G4 500 and replace with a shiny used G4 1.42 Dual. Unfortunately, I never botherd to learn about the "WIND TUNNEL" effect.
I know Apple offered a free Fan and Power Supply Replacement Kit back in 2003 that is no longer available (through Apple), but surely some wise Capiltalist Mac Reseller out there must be offering the same solution for a handsome fee.
    Can anyone offer a URL?
    Thanks!

    Hi
I could be wrong, but I was under the impression the original MDD G4s suffered from the worst noise and Apple addressed the issue as best they could in the FW800 G4s (including the dual 1.42) and the rereleased MDD 2003 G4.

  • Can I put the hard drive from my unrepairable iMac into another equivalent iMac?

THE LOGIC BOARD IN MY OLDER IMAC IS KAPUT.   CAN I SIMPLY PUT THE HARD DRIVE FROM MY FAILED IMAC INTO A WORKING EQUIVALENT IMAC?   ( I SEE PEOPLE SELLING THE SAME IMAC ON CRAIG'S LIST FOR $150.)

    Hi.
Yes, you can install the drive from the old iMac into another same-model iMac and it should have no problem booting.
Optionally, I would suggest you search online for a FireWire external drive enclosure. Take the drive out of your old iMac and install it into the FireWire drive enclosure. Now you can use your old drive as an external, bootable hd on your replacement iMac, or on any other Mac that you might purchase in the future.
Of course, you could swap the drive from your failed iMac into the one you buy on Craig's List... then put the drive you take from that into the external drive enclosure.
I suggest a FireWire enclosure because the older iMacs, the PPC models, can boot from an external FireWire drive, but I believe not from a USB drive.

  • Can i do a remote desktop from my 2007 iMac(computer that I need to access) controlled by my 2010 mbp

i don't have a wireless keyboard or mouse for my 2007 iMac, is there any way that can use remote desktop and access it from my 2010mbp.

    Hi champrider,
You can use an application such as Apple Remote Desktop to control your iMac remotely. See this article -

  • Can I import my music library from pc to imac using a flash drive?

I copied all my cds into my pc itunes library years ago. I just got the new imac and found that musicmatch / icloud blocked more than half the tracks on the imac (I can see them but they are grayed out, won't play, and their icloud status says "waiting"). Trying to import the tracks thru my ipod also didn't work. How do I transfer the (missing?) music over to the imac using a high-capacity flash drive?

The easiest way is to simply copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music/ on new computer.
This copies the entire library, not only the media.

  • Migration of mail from PPC G5 iMac w/ Tiger to Intel iMac w/ Snow Leopard

The migration was largely successful in that all my mailboxes from the old computer have appeared on the new one. The only thing I cannot do on the new iMac is delete some of the messages that have just arrived on the new iMac. They had NOT previously been downloaded to the old computer. The error message is this: the destination mailbox "(null)" does not allow messages to be moved to it.
I already have the mailbox behaviours set to delete messages from the server once I have downloaded them. I have also tried moving the mail.plist to the desktop, quitting Mail and then restarting it, both to no avail. Any help would be most welcome. Thank you.

I can move messages between mailboxes in On My Mac, and I have made an important, and helpful discovery. I have 4 active POP mail accounts, each obviously with its own e-mail address. In Snow Leopard, but not in Tiger, this seems to result in having 4 different sub Trash mailboxes, each of them corresponding to one of the 4 active mail accounts. By using the Move to command, as you suggested, I am able to "delete" an e-mail, PROVIDING I specify which of the 4 different Sub Trash mailboxes I wish to move it to. This was not necessary in Tiger as the Trash mailbox was a single integrated Trash mailbox and not compartmentalized so as to correspond to the 4 active mail accounts.
So I do now have a "work-around" that works, but having to select the Move to command on a drop-down menu and then select which of the 4 Trash mailboxes to delete the messages to is an incredibly long way round of deleting e-mail. Surely there must be a simpler way of deleting e-mail in Snow Leopard if one has more than one active mail account. Any more suggestions would be very welcome although I am about to go travelling for 10 days and won't have much access to the internet during that time.

  • Smell coming from power supply

I noticed a smell coming from the computer yesterday. Today i determined that the smell was from the power supply. Now...my Imac does fall in the range of products for the video and power repair extension, but i just worried about letting my power supply completly melt down before i can get service for it.
So i guess i have few questions i would appreciate any help with.
    1. Is this a regular symptom of the known power component issue.
    2. Is there a danger in continuing to run the Imac.

    Jason:
The PSU problem is different and separate. Call Apple and get a new PSU. If you continue to use the computer the PSU will stop working and it may do harm to the midplane.
Regarding the midplane. You can discuss changing it when you talk with an Apple technician. But if there is no problem with the screen and although your computer has a serial number that is included in the recall, I assume Apple will not change it. But, you may argue, the burning of the PSU may have affected the functioning of the midplane and Apple may change both. It is worth a try.
