I can move clips around, but can't select within them

I've trashed the prefs, used command-shift-a.
I know it's something simple, but I've looked in 3 books and haven't found it.
HELP!

I've never encountered this before (hence the question), but heretofore I've had not a problem -- just the i-beam selection tool, was able to select anywhere in the timeline. Similarly, in the sound editing window, was able to select there, but now can only scrub.
Very strange, this...

Congratulations on your new Mac! It sounds like your purchased songs are not playing completely after you downloaded them. I recommend to following steps for an issue like this:
Symptoms
Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.
Resolution
If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
Download your previously purchased song from this list.

After updating my Mac mini gets to the login screen, but I can't click on anything. The arrow is there and I can move it around, but doesnt allow me to click on anything

I have a Logitech mouse and keyboard that worked fine before the update. Now I can't get past the login in screen, because I'm unable to click on anything. I have the arrow and it moves around,but won't click on anything

Try using the arrow keys to move around. Press enter to the account you want to go to. I don't know if you can access the password bar after this... it's all I know for now.

Hold cmd and move object around without holding the mouse over them

The new update has disabled the cmd moving of layers. Before when i selected a layer and than held the cmd key i could move the objekt without clicking and holdind the mouse on it, hold cmd and click and hold the mouse anywhere on the screen than move it around, this was cool because the mouse was not in the way. Now i can move objekts only by holding the mouse on them. When i try it now i get to autoselect layer groups... who needs that ... how can i get back to the old method?

How do I add a space to the toolbar in Firefox 29.0? I can grab a space from empty areas and move it around, but where do I find a "space" icon to ADD a space?

It has been useful in past versions of Firefox to be able to add (a) space(s) between icons on the toolbar in order to create groups of icons and/or separate icons by class or function. In Firefox 29.0, I discovered how to "grab" (click and drag) a space from open areas on the toolbar and move it to another part of the toolbar. But how can I add spaces to the toolbar? In past versions, there used to be a space icon in the customize menu set that could be dragged to the toolbar for that purpose.

While returning the squared-off look to your tabs, instead of the newer, rounded version - it also gives returns the option to add spaces; variable size spaces, and separators to your tool-bars.

How do I move clips around to my preference?

It forces me to leave them in order or date created.

you can use the batch change date/time command to set the dates/times so they will naturally sort into order

Is this on your computer or on iPad/iPhone ? If you are on an iPad or iPhone then it should have downloaded into the Videos app - iTunes on those devices is just the iTunes store, and if you just see the Ts & Cs link on the Downloads tab then that means that there are no outstanding downloads waiting.

Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. How can I call in swf file to movie clip?

Hi all ...
This is my first post for advise, although fairly conversant
with flash and as2.
I am developing a new full screen background style website
and have menu buttons contained within a movie clip (nav_c1) ...
this re-aligns to the top centre of a page when user scales the
browser window.
I then have the content area (centre_content) movie clip ...
this realigns to the centre of the page when a user scales the
browser window.
I have scripted the menu buttons to goto a labelled frame in
the main timeline but I need, when at the labelled frame, to be
able to call/load in an external swf file to play 'inside' the
centre_content movie clip?
for example:
If I click my news button the flash file moves to the frame
label news on the main timeline. This then shows a duplicate of the
moive clip 'centre_content' which is called 'centre_news'. I need
to be able to call/load an external news.swf, containing all the
animated news info, to sit and play 'within' the movie clip
'centre_news' ... so that it is effectively contained 'within' the
movie clip file but loaded in place from an external swf file.
Can anyone help please?
I can post a rough working example online if need be.

ps: I don't think I am needing to load the swf to a level 1
area as I have tried this and instead of the swf file being loaded
and contained within my movie clip file/area it instead seems to
sit fixed on the main timeline (ie: not contained within the movie
clip area).

right lines as I see what the code is trying to do.
Unfortunately though I can't seem to get this to work?
I created a new file to get rid of other scripting that was
going on and have placed a movie clip called centre_content onto
the main timeline in frame 1 ... then I have applied your script to
an actions frame above the movie clip also on frame 1. I change the
path_to_file line with my swf name (callin.swf) which is a 1 frame
flash file with some text on it ...
... but it doesn't bring in the callin.swf file ... it just
shows the centre_content clip.
Am i doing anything wrong?
I also tried putting the script onto the first frame inside
the centre_content movie clip but this doesn't appear to work
either.
Regarding the pre-loader ... can I simply build this into the
swf file that is being called in to the movie clip?

each of these movieclips have 5 specific frames inside them. I can
jump between frames on the main timeline by doing this;
this._parent.gotoAndStop(2); this brings me to the first
frame of the movie clip.
but if i want to do the same thing but go direcly to the 5th
frame in said movieclip what do I do?

That part confuses me. Where is that line of ActionScript?
If the code
appears in a keyframe of the main timeline itself -- and if
you wanted to
move the main timeline's playhead -- you could use this:
this.gotoAndStop(frame number here);
That fact that you're prefixing the MovieClip.gotoAndStop()
method this
this._parent means your code must be inside a keyframe of the
first of your
movie clips. But I'm not sure how gotoAndStop(2) would take
you to the
first frame. Second frame, yes.

The frame you want to jump to is determined by the number
you feed in as
a parameter. gotoAndStop(5) takes you to frame 5. The
question of *which*
timeline should be jumped around depends on a) your object
reference (e.g.
this, or this._parent, or an instance name) and b) the
location of the code
making the reference.

A really annoying problem with a button/movie clip

I am having a problem with a button! its driving me insane
because i managed to do it last week, but that was by chance and
now i can't remember how i did it!
I can get the button (i'm using gelright from the common
libraries panel) and convert it to a movie clip(by pressing F8) and
even attach a behaviour but when i play the movie it doen't work!
when i move the curser over the button it changes into a hand, but
will not act like a button, even though i have set the behaviour to
'on release, go to and play keyframe 2'.
Please help me, for the sake of my laptop goin through the
wall!

ok - you are running yourself around in circles - why did you
delete it to the stage only to add it
again? once you converted it to a movie clip, you had what
you wanted on the stage - but then you
deleted it and dragged another instance of the same symbol

Right - this is expected because yoyu are now inside the
movie clip timeline - not the button timeline.

That's because you are applying a behavior for a button to a
movie clip instead.
I think you went wrong when you converted the button to a
movie clip - i have no idea why you did
that or why to think your button needs to be in a movie clip.

I just think you don't understand how timelines, symbols or
buttons work yet in flash.
1. drag a button to the stage.
2. select it and open the Behaviors panel (dont double click
it to edit it).
3. add your actions.
4. test movie.
(no need for a movie clip here.

Moving clips around in timeline

I'm sure there is a very simple fix to this problem, but I can't figure it out. I've edited numerous videos in fcp and was about halfway through one when the right arrow stopped showing up when I wanted to move clips around that were already in the timeline. Only the down arrow shows up when I drag a clip to a different point in the timeline so it overwrites my other footage instead of moving it over. I've tried cutting and pasting, but that also overwrites the footage. Please help! Thanks!

sorry Jim, gotta disagree with you on this. Rearranging clips IN the timeline (not editing from the viewer or browser) is a very basic and useful tool in fcp. Learn to use it and your editing speed will increase.

Buttons not working in movie clips

I have multiple movie clips on stage (all in separate layers, of course) as well as buttons on stage to play each movie clip. There are buttons inside each movie clip. The problem is that the buttons inside the top layered movie clip work, but the others in the movie clips below don't.
This is frustrating!! Can anyone help???

It shouldn't matter which layer things are on. If they are separate movielcips, one should not impact another. What version of actionscript are you using? Do any of the movieclips have mouse interactive code assigned to them?

Movie Clip in swf won't show animation in adobe premiere pro cs4

Hi, I am new to this forum and as well as a beginner user of adobe premiere pro cs4. I am recently making a animation using Adobe Flash CS5, I've been using movie clips symbol to create all the movement of the character, background and stuff. Unfortunately, swf movies exported from Adobe Flash CS5 do not show any animation at all in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. I have to use movie clips symbol instead of graphic symbol because filters can be added to a movie clip symbol but not graphic symbol. Is there any way to help making the movie clip symbol to be shown in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4? Your help is much appreciated.

Check Flash help in the "video" section, specifically "moving content between" PR and FL. (I was looking at CS4, but it must be there in CS5 help as well.)
Your movie is to be watched on a TV? I would do this in After Effects. because you'll lose most of the flash functionality once you go to video anyway,

Making a loadmovie in an empty movie clip

Hi. I'm making a new as3 file, and there i made an animation, like an intro for my website, in a movie clip. But what i want is, when this animation or this movie clip ends, automatically it charges another swf with my website, without having to press any button. I read some tutorials on internet that i can make this, creating a new empty movie clip, and then writing some code, but it didn`t work me. Please can anybody help me with the exact code i have to write? I will appreciate so much that, because i'm new in this as3 topic. Thanks so much for ur time.

All you need to do is pull the code out of the function...

And you mentioned adding the loaded object to a movieclip, so if you still plan to do that then give the movieclip an instance name and use it's name to add the loader to it instead of what your code does above...
Change: addChild(loader);
To: mcName.addChild(loader);
