I can no longer access iphotos in Finder

I used to be able to click on Photos (I think that´s what it was called…) in my Finder Sidebar and see a list of .jpgs of all my iPhoto photos. This was very useful, for example, if I wanted to attach a photo into an email, insert a photo into a document, or copy photos onto a flash drive. But SUDDENLY the folder is no longer on my Sidebar, and I cannot figure out where it might be, or why it would have disappeared. As far as I know, I did not do anything to move it. There is instead a PICTURES folder, but this folder has always only contained jpgs that are not in iPhoto (for example, from Photo Booth). It contains an iPhoto Library icon, but upon clicking this, it only opens up the iPhoto application. Could it be that I recently updated something that could have caused this to happen (though frankly I don´t remember having done so!)?  What can I do to get that folder back?
PS. I know that there are clever ways to bypass my problem… like clicking on Reveal in Finder for the picture I want, and then dragging it into gmail, but this gets to be tedious, and just because it ultimately works does not mean that it solves the initial problem.  I am not looking for clever bypasses… I want my photos to be back the way they are supposed to be!
(I´ve looked at some similar threads, but couldn´t find a satisfactory answer!) I am running Mountain Lion, 10.8.5.
Thank you!

The "Photos" view has been replaced by the Media Browser.
Most applications will show you the Photos icon in the Sidebar, when you need to select photos in a file chooser dialoge. Mail, Safari, the iWork apps. See Terence Devlin's User Tip: How to Access Files in iPhoto
For example, in the File > Open dialogue in Preview I am seeing this in the sidebar.

THe message says, 'You can't use this version of the applicaitonn iPhot with this version of OS X.  You have iphoto 9.3.2." When I try to update iPhoto, I get a message saying I signed in with a different apple ID and password.  This all happened about the same time I got a new iphone.  The iPhoto icon has a circle with a line through it.

  • I put my mac pro to share with my mac desktop.  Iphoto was upgraded from 8.2.1 and I can no longer access iphoto on the mac book pro. I have tried library manager but that does not work.  Any suggestions?

I have a mac pro which I recently made to share with my mac desktop.  iphoto was updated on the mac pro from 8.2.1 and I can no longer open iphoto.  I get an error message You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.  The only option is for me to quit.  I have tried to restore with no luck.  I tried reinstalling using my Application CD.  Help?????

when you opened the shared library with the newer version of iPhoto (iPhoto '11) you were given a warning that your library would be converted and could not be used by older versions - you clicked ok to go ahead - there is no updo available - either upgrade to iphoto '11 of the MBP or load your backup of the iPhoto '09 library on it - older versiopns of i{Photo can not read newer libraries

  • After update 5.4.1, I can no longer access TC from Finder sidebar

Time Machine can backup just fine (and it seems improved), but now when I click on the icon of my Time Capsule in the Finder sidebar, I see "connecting...", but eventually the connection times out.
Has anyone gotten this to work, or do I have to downgrade the firmware? Nice job, Apple!

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.

  • Can no longer access iPhoto from the iMovie camera browser..not working. Also the Inspector tool not working properly. Cannot change clip duration.

How can I fix the INSPECTOR Tool?   Clip duration is not working properly, it is very erratic.  You type a number and a different one comes up on the clip.
Suddenly the iPhoto Camera browser in iMovie is not working properly either.  Can not access my iPhotos to include them in iMovie project.

    Have you tried this?
From the "HOME" screen, go to "SETTINGS > PRIVACY > PHOTOS" and see if iMovie is listed in the "PHOTOS" page. If it is, then tap the iMovie switch to "ON"
Now your Videos & Photos should be accessible in the iMovie App.

  • Updated to yosemite and can no longer access iPhoto.  Will not allow me to see my pictures stored on computer???

My children updated system to yosemite, but i am now locked out of iPhoto and unable to access my pictures.  Tells me i need to install and app, and when i go to store, it tells me this app is not available.  How do I regain control of my photo library....

iPhoto did not come up in Spotlight and it was not in the applications folder and I did not delete it.  I also did not remove it from the dock, but it was gone. Thus, it is my assumption that the 10.10.3 update removed it.  If not, then it disappeared and Apple should allow you to get your old iPhoto back, but that also is now not available and I certainly did not remove iPhoto from the app store.
I usually perform updates, especially point updates to incorporate security fixes. I have used Apple products for many years and this is the worst mess I have ever seen.  The new Photos application crashes instantly and iPhoto is gone. They could have at least left iPhoto alone for a few months, instead of removing it from my system and from the store.

  • On iPhoto, I can no longer access the 'Classic' option which would lay out my photos on the page. It will send them as attachments only. I need the page layout for my work. Any thoughts as to why this has changed?

On iPhoto, I can no longer access the 'Classic' option which would lay out my photos on the page. It will send them as attachments only. I need the page layout for my work. Any thoughts as to why this has changed? It used to fully lay out the photos so I could add notes and detailed information before I sent them. I am thinking it is something simple that I have just missed...

  • After iPhoto upgrade i can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive, after iPhoto upgrade i can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive

I was just about to order a photo book, using photos stored on an external hard drive. I organised the book and pressed 'buy'. IPhotos instructed me that I needed to upgrade and so I went on the ASpp store, bought the upgrade and installed as directed. I then used the iPhoto Library upgrader as directed.
After the iPhoto upgrade I can no longer access the photos stored on my external hard drive. I am able to access the photos stored on my internal hard drive - the remainder (including the photo album) seem to have vanished into thin air.
    Any suggestions please?

What format is the external drive?

  • I used to manage 3 websites using both my imac and macbook, using dropbox, however I can no longer access them from my mac book.

I have been managing 3 websites using iWeb for the last several years, using both my iMac and Macbook.  However for the last two weeks, I can no longer access these sites from my macbook.  It appears "empty".  When I first started seeing this, I took it to the Genius Bar in another city and he moved some library contents to my desktop - still didin't help.
I know iWeb is a thing of the past, but I can't stop right now and learn something new for about the next 4 weeks (in a sports team in the middle of a season)
.  After that, I will have time to learn a new product.
Also, what is a suggestion for replacing iWeb?  Sandvox? Rapid Weaver?
    Thanks!

What do you mean when you say you "can no longer access these sites?" Does that mean you can't connect to those sites in your web browser, or that they aren't showing up in iWeb?
If the latter, note that your iWeb data is all entirely stored in a hidden file. In the Finder, choose Go -> Go To Folder and paste the following path into the window that opens:
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb
In that folder, you will find a single file, called Domain. That's got all the data for all your iWeb sites. If that file is missing, or if it has become corrupt, you will need to restore it from an earlier backup.
As for replacing iWeb, either Sandvox or RapidWeaver should work. Which works best will depend on your own tastes. Note that neither is capable of fully importing iWeb sites, as those sites will have a lot of content that is copyrighted by Apple. I have always been able to access Yahoo from my desktop icon. In the last few days, this has not worked 90% of the time (once in a while I can get through). I need to access it through my Verizon account. Why is this suddenly happening - for years I have been able to use the Yahoo icon.
And when I tried to send a help message to Firefox it refused to go through - the green line would go over and over and never finish.

  • Can no longer access a network drive

After upgrading to OS X Leopard (10.5), I can no longer access my network hard disk. I use a Linksys Network Storage Link that has a 320 GB hard disk attached to it. In Tiger, I could go to the Network icon in the Finder and connect to the disk. Now the network icon does nothing. Any ideas? THANKS.

Leopard sets your mac to avoid being a master browser so you don't see other shares in finder.
There are many ways around it but if you run a network with few machines and that is the only mac the fastest is to launch terminal as administrator and issue the following command:
    sudo pico /etc/hosts
Add a line at the end with the IP address of your NAS, this is what I have in my hosts
    192.168.0.100 Netdrive
Hit option X and save the file. Reboot the machine the NAS will come up immediately

  • Problem after updating to iTunes 10.5 on Windows Vista.. I can no longer access the iTunes store..

    Hi
After updating to iTunes 10.5 on Windows Vista I have found that I can no longer access the iTunes store... I am left with a blank iTunes screen with the loading bar stuck at halfway..
All other features seem to work... only opening  the iTunes store is failing..
I have ran the diagnostics feature and this says everything is ok, so I'm a bit stuck
    Please help

Purple-Gecko...all that I can say is, "Boom!!!"  You are THE man/woman, whichever the case may be.
The "netsh winsock reset" command worked like a charm for my machine (running Windows XP SP3).  I have had two weeks of frustration with this issue and finally found your post which got me back online with the iTunes store.  My problem accessing the iTunes store began once I downloaded and installed iTunes 10.5 in preparation to upgrade to OS5.  Once 10.5 was installed, I could open iTunes and access everything except the store (which prevented any of my devices from being able to sync). I followed all of the suggestions that I could find in Apple Support and the suggestions that I was emailed from Apple's support techs.  I unistalled all Apple software and reinstalled iTunes multiple times, and still could not access the store.
Your suggestion is the only "cure" that I have found.
I thank you, my iPod thanks you, and my iPhone 4 thanks you for taking the time to post this fix.

  • I can no longer access my online banking account in firefox

I can no longer access my online bank account in firefox, although I can in IE. I can get through the login ID and security question, but when I type in my password and click on login, it consistently tells me I have the wrong password. I have no trouble logging in with IE. I have deleted my history completely, deleted the sqlite files from my profile, and done everything else I can find in the support area with no results. I have been able to access this website for years in firefox, and all of a sudden today I cannot. I called the bank and they even reset my password and tested firefox on their end and said they have no problems with it. I have not installed any new addons. I disabled firefox preloader. Any suggestions?

I see you are using LastPass. Could that add-on be interfering with your login?? You could try disabling it temporarily under Tools > Add-ons to test that theory.

  • Can no longer access a website - why?

As of yesterday, I can no longer access the local school district's website.  Says it cannot connect with the website. I've called around and everyone else seems able to connect, so the site is not down. We've got FIOS - have had it for a long, long time - and none of our equipment or situations have changed.  No computer in this house - not our PCs or the Macs - can log onto the site.  Help!

that's slightly different than the original poster's issue.  you're issue has to deal with secure websites.
You may want to follow the instructions here.
If you get the "page cannot be displayed" then I'm afraid you can't access SSL sites.
An example of this picture can be found here!
Here are the steps that you should try to fix your "secure sites problem".
Verify that Internet Explorer Is Using 128-Bit Encryption:
In Internet Explorer, on the Help menu, click About Internet Explorer
The level of encryption on your computer appears next to the words Cipher Strength.
Verify that the Cipher Strength value appears as 128-bit
If the Cipher Strength is anything less then 128-bit, download the "Explorer Internet High Encryption Pack" to your computer's hard disk, and then install it.
    Delete Temporary Internet Files
There's also a possibility of some corrupted files in your Temporary Internet Files (TIF) storage. You should clear these
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the General tab
Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files, and click OK when you are prompted to confirm the deletion
Configure Security settings for the Trusted sites zone in Internet Explorer:
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the Security tab
Select Trusted sites, and then click Default Level
Add the secure Web site you are trying to access to the Trusted sites zone. To do so, click Sites, type the address (URL) of the site in the Add this Web site to the zone box
Click Add, click OK, and then click Apply
Clear the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) slate and AutoComplete history:
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the Content tab
Under Certificates, click Clear SSL State
Click OK when you receive the message that the SSL cache was successfully cleared
    Under Personal information, click AutoComplete
Under Clear AutoComplete history, click Clear Forms. Click OK when you are prompted to confirm the operation.
Verify that Internet Explorer is configured to use SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0
In Internet Explorer, click on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the Advanced tab
In the Settings box, under the Security header, click to select the Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 check boxes (if they are not already selected), and then click OK
Verify that the Date and Time Settings on Your Computer Are Correct:
Because SSL certificates have an expiration date, if the date on your computer isn't correct, it may prevent you from connecting to secure sites.
To verify that your computer is configured with the correct date and time settings
Click Start > click Control Panel
Click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options, and then click Date and Time
Select the Date & Time tab
Check to make sure that the date and time settings are configured to use the current date and time, and then click OK
Check the file integrity of the IE and Outlook:
Click Start>Run> "sfc /scannow" (without quotes) It might ask for the Windows CD to upload the corrupted files
Click Start>Run> regsvr32 softpub.dll (without quotes) and wait for the OK message; then try again.
Here are some Microsoft Knowledge Base articles dealing with this problem that you may like to look at if you aren't able to solve the problem. Just Google the error number and you should find some additional info on it!
