I can no longer access my iphoto library after trying to transfer photos to dropbox.

Help! I'm a IT hopeless. I can no longer open my iphoto library witihout a message saying can't access without using iphoto upgrader. It worked a treat before I tried to upload lib. to dropbox. What do I do?

I went into finder on my new iMac, clicked on 'pictures' and my library suddenly appeared, when I hadn't been able to access it using the icon on the bottom of the desktop without being told I had to update the photos before accessing.
Since I'd been accessing the library with no problem, I simply assume that my bumbling attempt to save the library to Dropbox caused bad things to happen.
Scary when you're an IT ignorant like me! And why a supportive response like yours helps take away that feeling I was not just helpless but alone.

When I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos.

So starting recently (last couple of months) when I want to attach a photo to my e-mail I can no longer find my iPhoto library using open - media - photos. There's nothing there, it's just completely blank, when in the past my whole iPhoto library would show up with thumbnails and I could just choose the pic to attach. Now I have to drag the photos I want from iPhoto onto the desktop and then I can find them there to attach to my e-mail. How can I get my iPhoto library to show back up the simple way when I want to attach photos? I've been having this problem attaching photos in hotmail or yahoo.

It should be an attachment. Your Mac just displays a preview of certain attachments (such as .pdfs) in the body of the message. A PC, for example, will see it as an attached file rather than a preview.
You can save the attachment on your Mac by Control-clicking on it and selecting Save Attachment.

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File: a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected. 3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

Hi everybody.
I have a 157 GB iPhoto library file, with all my photos and videos.
With the last OS X update, Photos was installed.
I told Photos, that the iPhoto library, should be "Use as System Photo library".
I now have 2 libraries...one for iPhoto and one for Photos. They seem about the same size.
My question now is: Can I now trash the iPhoto library?
Did it import everything from that library, to the Photos library now?
I need the space...Hope somebody can help with this!

I'm going to wait until I have everything uploaded to iCloud then. Takes a while.
Funny thing is, that before the "big import" to Photos, I had about 70GB left on the HD. And the reason why I get suspicious is, that now I have those 2 libraries, each around 157GB. Doesn't make sense to me. Seems like my HD just magically got an extra 100GB , if they in fact are separate libraries.

Have you verified that the iPhoto applications is not in the Applications folder or somewhere else on the hard drive?
To do so download and use Find Any File to search for "iPhoto.app" because FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't. If the application is somewhere else on the HD FAF will find it. However, I doubt that it will be there but it's worth a search.

What The **** ? OK, I've been holding out asking this question and now I have to ask.
I'm trying to learn Gimp Image Editor because I need to do a bunch of image editing for a video for the Veterans.
When I try to bring an image in, I can't find my iPhoto Library.
Here's a screen shot.
Also, you're supposed to be able to drag in photos, but it won't let me do that either. So I have spent 4 hours today trying to figure this out and got nowhere.
I hope one of you smart guys can tell me what's going on here. Restore my faith in Mac

When I do this I see the images. What version of Gimp are you running?
But as Linc wrote you should export the images from iPhoto or better yet make Gimp iPhotos external editor. See iPhoto->Preferences->Advanced

I can't access my iPhoto library after downloading osx maverick

I recently installed OSX maverick, and now I can't get into iPhoto library. The message I get is this, "You can’t use this version of the application “iPhoto” with this version of OS X. You have “iPhoto” 9.2.1" . I'm not very technical so apologies if there is an obvious answer to this. Thanks.

Note 1: every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.

I have read a number earlier postings and potential solutions (without effect), but somehow am unable to access my large iPhoto library with the iPhoto program? I made a copy (..after Photo's update) on an external HD but iPhoto can access neither this copy nor the former original library folder. Photos looks fine but I need the simple ability to 'name' the photograph upon export whereas Photos simply uses the camera-given file name. Is there a removal tool for Photos? I'd appreciate any help thanks.

Can't find my main iPhoto library after switching to another library. Where is it - its not in list of libraries

I can see the library of photos in Aperture so I know the photos are still there and still organized, but I'm unable to see them in iPhoto after switching to a different library, then trying to go back - where is that library? Its not listed. The desired iPhoto library was iPhoto 11, this one is only 9.6.

First: Locate it.
Right click on the word iPhoto in the Menu bar. This will show you the location of the Library:
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from wherever it is to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

My husband and I have our iPhoto preferences set to share our iPhoto libraries with each other, which has worked well in the past. Suddenly, however, neither of us can see the other's library in our list of albums on the left hand side of the screen as we used to. Any ideas about what might have caused this?

I just updated to OS X version 10.9.1 and have always used my photos from iphot as my screen saver, but now I cannot even choose iphoto as an option - it appears greyed out so I can't choose it as a file source! Boooooo!!!!!

How long to rebuild iPhoto Library after HDD failure?

The hard drive on my Macbook Pro died. It was replaced under warrantee (great service Apple)!
I restored from a Time Machine backup. When I started iPhoto, the spinning wheel started - it ran like that for 2 days before I stopped it.
I checked inside the photo library manually, it seems like all of the pictures are there. I have about 8 GB of pictures. How long should something like this take?

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
*What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

Help! My IE8 users can no longer access their wiki pages after upgrade to Lion.

I upgraded my SL server to Lion without checking the browser requirements for the new Wiki server. My users access the wiki via a Windows 2003 Terminal Server which is stuck on IE8, can't install IE9 on it. I push out the home page URL via group policy and now everyone is getting the "unsupported browser" message. Is there any way to allow them access with IE8? They don't actually update the wiki, that can be done with a compatible browser no problem but they need to be able to click on links. Do I just need to set up a separate website for them?

Anybody got this?
I've got 2 drives, and only the bottom one works after the 10.7 rollout? Doesn't appear that the other one is even recognized in the system profiler anymore.
Surely there's someone that knows wth is going on here...?
