I can no longer acquire IP Address in XP

I have two computers, an iMac and a MacBook Pro. Both are partitioned with Bootcamp so I can run AutoCAD. I also like to access the internet, etc while I'm in PC mode working. Both machines were fine for months, the MacBook still is. The iMac is great as a Mac, but suddenly can not acquire an IP Address as a PC with my Airport. If I hardwire it with ethernet, I can FTP updates, but I still can not visit any HTTP sites. I've tried resetting, renewing and repairing ... Any thoughts?

• Can no longer hide toolbar/address bar in safari 7.0.1

Since I own the smaller 13" macbook, I was very impressed with the full screen version of applications Apple introduced...whenever they introduced them -especially safari. I always enjoyed that I could go full screen, hide the address/toolbar, and have only the thin line of tabs at the top, being free to cmd-L whenever I wanted to use the address bar, it going away afterwards. It really freed up a lot of the screen, making me less aware of how small it is.
I can no longer do this. When I right click on the toolbar - there use to be an option to "hide toolbar" - now there is only "customize toolbar". Under the "view" tab the option to hide the toolbar is grayed out (I still have the option when I'm not in full screen mode). Additionally, the old cmd-option-| doesn't work anymore either.
What gives? Am I doing something wrong, or is this purposeful? If so, is there any way I can get back to the older version of Safari that had this option?
thanks a million,
b

You can't hide the toolbar in full-screen mode. That's the design. Before you ask, I have nothing to do with Apple and I don't know any more than you do about its design decisions.

• Running OS 10.7.2, can no longer add to address book. Suggestions? Thanks.

Upon upgrade to Lion on my iMac, I can no longer add contacts to my address book. Never had issues with address book before. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

So when you click on the + sign what happens?

• Pc with windows xl/sp3 can't connect / acquire ip address from airport extreme; meanwhile, my macbook in connecting fine. We have a wpa2 personal password

My husband's Dell with Windows xl (sp3) can't get an ip address from our new airport extreme. Nor can my daughter's Windows 7 computer. There are no firewalls in place. Both computers worked with my old Airport, though it was sssslllllllowwww. My Macbook works fine and is super fast compared to the old airport. We are using a wpa2 personal password.
Anyone out there have a cure for this problem so we can hook up those sad pcs?
Thanks a lot.
Elizabeth

First, make sure that the new Airport is configured exactly the same as the old one. Hopefully you saved the configuration settings in a file and can look at them to be sure.
If the Windows PC's can't connect with the same password, it's possible that the PC's were using an older wifi protocol like 802.11a or b. The new Airport is backwards compatible but has to be setup that way check to see what versions of 802.11a the windows computers support and make sure that the wireless mode of the airport is setup to accomodate them.
Can the PC's get an IP address if they are connected to the AirPort using an ethernet cable? If they can, that would help naorrow things down to a wireless issue and not some other configuration problem.

• Airport can no longer get DHCP address

Hello,
I'm at the point of dumping the airport base station in the trash, but thought I would try this first.
I have broadband internet service. It worked - until mid morning today. Suddenly it will not work. The base station (old one, white - snow?), though set for DHCP, now defaults to a self-addressed 169... address. I have tried:
- powering off the base station, the cable modem, powering up one at a time, etc etc. Internet provider (insight, IL) says they don't know why the apple base station is unable to renew the DHCP lease.
- The Airport Admin Utility is set to Ethernet, using DHCP. There is no "renew DHCP lease" button there, but I have switched it to connect using modem and then switched backed to Ethernet, hit Update, and back comes Using DHCP ... with a 169.254 address.
- I can connect through the cable modem with my powerbook without a problem. The address starts with 74.134.
I take it the self-assigned IP means there was a timeout or the airport was otherwise unable to get what it considered a valid IP.
Is the base station toast?
Should I buy a router and hook it to that? Seems redundant, with my setup (two laptops, one desktop connected to base station LAN port)
I've spent several hours reading (via direct connect to the cable modem) and trying different wiring / reset combinations, and have about had it. Any thoughts most welcome.
Thanks,
Brian

It is a long while since I tried Google Toolbar, I am not sure what it changes. But I would not expect it to totally remove your options to use the ordinary toolbars.
■ Try
* press the''' alt '''key on the keyboard, that may return the menu bar
* once you have the menubar '''View -> Toolbars ->''' and select which you need
* you may also use View-> Toolbars -> Customise and drag items back or use the restore default set option.
* right clicking on the toolbars also gets you to the customise and show toolbars options
■ have a look at [[Back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]]
PS
I hope you do not need to resort to editing registry settings, the firefox 'dragons' in prefs are user friendly compared with Windows registry. Messing up firefox prefs only really affects firefox normally; whereas errors in a registry edit may prevent you from even booting the computer.

• I can no longer get my address bar, back or foward buttons, tool bar, menu bar or anything else. How can I restore?

When I open Firefox I do not get an address bar only Google comes up. I don't get a back or forward button nor do I get the tool bar or menu bar. There is no default button. I read the forum but I can not make any corrections because I don't have a tool bar displayed. I am using 3.6. When I turn off my computer and then turn it back on, the default settings still do not return.

• I can no longer sync my address book on my iMac to my Blackberry Torch

When I upgraded my iMac to Lion the Blackberry software stopped recognising any of my address books. I have downloaded the most recent update but this hasn't helped. Can anyone suggest what I might do?

Yes, there are many posts on it. It is no longer possible in Mavericks to locally sync Calanders and Contacts via USB. Nut there are plenty of alternatives beside iCloud.
Here are some solutions.
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6311
Here is another
http://www.apple.com/au/osx/server/
Here is yet another
If your Mavericks came with anything other than Mavericks pre-installed
OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version
Also there are a host of other Cloud services you can use. You do not have to use iCloud at all. Although there ARE over 320+ million iCloud accounts presently active, so it is extremely popular with users.

• I can no longer use the address bar to change websites. I can block text with the mouse and input a new URL but when I hit the enter key or left click on the right arrow it has no effect and the page does not change.

Also Ctrl+Enter no longer adds www+.com to words entered in the address bar. I can use bookmarks to change to other web sites or my password manager. Re-booting my laptop makes no difference. Please help.

Hey CaptRobyn,
Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. It might be related to an extension. Then you should read [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].
Hopefully this helps!

• I can no longer select multiple addresses from my Mail address book when forwarding emails

Since updating to Mavericks I cannot select multiple addresses from my address book when forwarding emails.
I can select them individually using the + sign in the address bar but cannot select any when I open my Contact list as I have done with previous systems.
Additionly, the full address appears in the "To" window instead of just the name and without the email address. I have selected "Smart Address" from the Preferences menu, View section.
Help!

Why are you using a Hotmail or Live Mail SMTP server to send email with your Gmail account?
This is likely the cause of the problem. Use Gmail's authenticated SMTP server to send email with your Gmail account.

• I can no longer see the address bar, the back button, etc. What can I do to restore them?

I cannot enter a URL, or move back to the previous page. This started just this morning.Yesterday it worked normally.

hello ralph, please see [[Navigation buttons like back, home, bookmarks and reload are missing]].

• Since I updated to Yosemite I no longer have my address book. It held physical addresses and other info. Now I can only find contacts.

I have a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB of memory. I recently updated the operating system to Yosemite. Now I can no longer find my address book. Contacts is in order but I need the physical addresses, groups, etc. in my address book.
How do I find it?
Thank you

Why are apple constantly trying to fix something that was working very well before they touched it?
Why did you upgrade if you were happy with what you had? No one from Apple came round and forced you to upgrade.
You might want to explain this more fully. Where did you keep these folders on your HD?
Oh, and the simple solution is to restore from the back up you made just before upgrading - you did make one, right?

• My i cloud account is locked, the e mail address I used can no longer be accessed and when I click the option to use the questions to get a new password it asked for my ID number, when I input that it tells me its wrong! now what?

I forgot my i cloud password

• After resetting firefox, I can no longer search from the address bar

Like the title says I can't search from the address bar "awesome bar" anymore. I just get a 404 error when I try. Searching just lists tons of people getting the "just update keyword.url" answer that's no longer valid. And hasn't been for several years.
I got a browser hijack somewhere. Not sure where, and nothing was installed on my computer so I reset firefox and lost all my search engines. IE was fixed with an uninstall/reinstall. Chrome hates my face and no longer runs. (And google's help is... well if I wanted to be insulted...) I've reinstalled several times. No dice. I've now reset firefox three times. It's just not working. I've ran several virus scanners, ran several malware programs, and even asked my IT department. (They don't care cause IE works and their stupid "virus scan" was clean. I mean it took 30 seconds. What the hell did it actually scan?)
Surely there's a keyword or something that I'm missing that needs to be reset so I can get my address bar searching again.

Current Firefox versions use the default search engine that is set in the search bar as well for searching via the location bar and on the about:home page.
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extension (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extension+and+themes
You can check the connection settings.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network : Connection > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Options+window+-+Advanced+panel
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.
See "Firefox connection settings":
