I can no longer delete music from my iPhone or IPod

I have an early iPod, my wife has an iPhone and an iPad.  I have tried to delete music (transferred from my owned CDs to the computer) and podcasts from these instruments, but when I go to my computer and attach the device like I used to, the music is greyed out and I cannot delete it.  What do I do?

Sounds like you want to manually remove content from each device.  In order to be able to do that, you need to have the Manually manage music and videos option enabled under each device's Summary tab in iTunes.
If you want to continue automatically syncing each device with iTunes, you'll need to configure each device to no longer sync the content you want removed from each device via the Music configuration tab.

  • As of today I can no longer delete music from iTunes.

    Hello friends!
I can't seem to delete music from iTunes 10.(whatever the latest version is) or on my iPhone4. I just want to change what I have on my iPhone, but then I realized that it may be an issue with iTunes after I tried to delete something there.
I only know of two ways to delete music. One is to select/ highlight want I want to delete and select the delete funtion in the edit part of the bar. The other is to do the Command D shortcut. Neither of these work as of today. Yesterday it did indeed work for I changed some stuff before work.
I am nothing of a techy sort. Here is some info, but it may be invalid.
*I have an eMac running Leopard.
*iTunes 10.4 (I think) last update a few days ago.
*iPhone 4...updated today with the new updates.
*I have my music saved on an external harddrive. I have the folder set up to put my library there.
*Edit/ Delete doesn't work, neither does Command D.
This is the only issue I've ever had. Any suggestions?

It could be an issue with permissions on your system.
I would suggest beginning your troubleshooting by running Disk Utility (In the applications--> utilities folder), and choosing "Repair Permissions".
You should also check to see if the music has a little exclamation mark next to the song -- that means it isn't able to find your music, and you'll want to doubleclick the song to make sure it plays okay.
Secondly I would suggest you run Disk Utility again and this time you run it on your external drive and select "Repair Disk".  That will check your external drive for problems.
My guess is that your iTunes Music Library file inside your User folder--> Music folder is damaged.. but see where you get with the Disk utility repairs first and let us know!

  • Why can't I delete music from my iphone using itunes match anymore?

I thought for sure I used to be able to swipe to delete albums or tracks on my iphone - on my iphone 5 I can no longer do this. I found that if I turn itunes match off, I can delete. But turning itunes match on and off a lot is really a huge issue. It seems every time I do this the iphone loses track of some of the music.
Why why why can't these problems be fixed?!

    Awful, awful awful.
Apple ... what were you thinking, and why did you mess up your product so badly?
Why are you screwing over those who are the most devoted, who paid for an extra?
Really.  Could this be more frustrating:
You download a great new album!
You want to listen to it on your iPhone!
Oh wait, your iPhone is full.  Over capacity.  AND YOU SPEND AN HOUR TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET SONGS OFF YOUR IPHONE, reading every forum and every trick to somehow make the product work the way it should.  Trying to clear some space for that great new album you just got!
    But it still doesn't.
... frustrated, you end up deleting the whole library.  Because there seems to be no other way to clear space.
    And re-download.
But "use cellular data" is back on, so it downloads when you're out.
And your phone bill is now $300 because you live in Canada and the data caps are so low.
Great.  Now I paid over $350 to get my music I already own onto the phone.
At this point, the old USB seems like a better option.  Or even the firewire 400.  Longing for the days of my 10 gig iPod with a FireWire cable.
Thanks. So much for "positive user experience".
Easy to buy music, hard to get it on to your device.  But as long as I've already given you my money, who cares right?!

  • Why can't I delete music from my iphone under IOS6 while using iTunes Match?

It's easy enough to add music from the Cloud, but I have a HUGE music collection (all legally acquired, thanks) and I don't always want the same music taking up space on my iPhone. How do I get rid of a song/album/playlist, without turning off iTunes Match? Shouldn't this work like everything else -- I swipe right and press delete?

Not a bug, it's the way Apple has designed things. Read here:

  • Need to delete music from my iPhone to make space for iOS upgrade. Should I get rid of all (and how would I do this?) and use the cloud as playback source?

My phone wants to upgrade to 7.0.2, but there's not enough room. I (stupidly) upgraded my iCloud capacity thinking that that would help, but it doesn't.  Now I'm considering deleting my music off my phone altogether, but I need some of it there for a variety uses at the school where I teach.  Does the cloud preserve my playlists?  Can I selectively delete music from my iPhone?

Hi - you can do what you want to do with AirPlay from your iPhone - but unfortunately it is not as easy as the people in the Apple store told you - your first problem is that you have a non Apple router - you cannot extend a non Apple router wirelessly with the Express - you can only join the network and connect an ethernet device to it - you can however connect via ethernet and have it create a wireless network of its' own - you can set this up from your iPhone or the XP - but this is a complicated setup and would involve many different discussion areas of this forum - therefore I would suggest that you use your 90 days of support and consult directly with Apple to do this - go to this link - http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

  • How can I delete music from my iPhone 4 (iOS7) when I manually manage the music in iTunes, but it has no affect on my phone's music library?

I'm attempting to delete music from my iPhone 4 (iOS7). When I connect it to iTunes, and the music shows up, I delete the music from the phone. When I disconnect the phone, the music is still there. The same thing happens if I try to sync the phone before disconnecting. I have "manually manage music" checked. Additionally, when I reconnect my iPhone, the music I "deleted" from it when it was previously connected to iTunes no longer appears, preventing me from trying to delete it again.
I know I can swipe left on each song to delete it on my phone, and I have been, but that takes a long time when you're trying to delete everything on your iPhone.
    Suggestions?

I can no longer download music from itunes store.  It happened when I was trying to download songs dragged into a playlist.  I tried to download more than one at a time.  It stopped.  Now I cant download at all.  Even rebooted my machine.

OK thanks I will try that. I just don't understand why I still can't download new videos as I've deleted the software I installed and I've changed my camera settings back to what they were before when I could download into iPhoto. I perhaps should have mentioned it's iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. Is there any way of putting iPhoto back as the "default download and view" programme?
It could be as simple as longer (larger) videos - iPhoto does not always handle larger video files well
Is there any way of putting iPhoto back as the "default download and view" programme?
iPhoto is not a download and view program - it is a photo management database program that imports photos - Image Capture is a download program - Preview is a view program
The default program to download your photos is set in the preference panel of either iPhoto or image capture

  • If I delete music from my iPhone will it still be saved in iCloud and can I access it again at a later date?

If I delete music from my iPhone will it still be saved in iCloud and can I access it again at a later date?

Yes. You can re-download purchased iTunes content for free, except for purchased ringtones, which are a one time download.

  • I can no longer drag music from my computer into iTunes.

I updated iTunes to the most recent download and installed the newest update on my iPhone 4. Now I can no longer drag music from my PC into iTunes. Not even into a new playlist. None of my settings changed. Please help.

    Try
    - Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
However, that may not work and you will have to wait for an iPod or iTunes update.

As I can't upload CD's onto the Macbook Air, how do I keep the existing music on my iphone syn onto my new macbook without deleting all the cds on the iphone??
    Many thanks!

    Hi RaulRod,
Are you pressing the Sync button to transfer music after connecting your iPhone or do you have the option checked to 'Automatically Sync when the iPhone is connected?'
Have you tried manually dragging and dropping music from your library into your phone?

  • I can no longer sync music to any of my ipods.  It shows that it is syncing, but it is stuck and won't go past the "syncing to ipod' state

I can no longer sync music to any of my ipods.  It shows that it is syncing, but it doesn't.  It worked fine a few weeks ago.  Any suggestions?

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

I have a similar problem.  I recieved an IPAD for my birthday, and my daughter updated my itunes library so i can use it with the ipad...and somehow all my songs (unpurchased from itunes, and downloaded  from a large collection of CDs) ...and play lists were deleted.   I still have them on my old ipod, and wonder how to get them back onto my computer so I can redistribute some of them to the ipad.  I must be getting too old for this tech stuff, it gets less user friendly every year.
