I can no longer load website through firefox updated (tho, I can thru other search engines and browsers) fixing proxy settings didn't work. Other ideas?

I upgraded recently my firefox browser on my home computer which still runs Windows XP. I can no longer find websites thru firefox, tho, I can load websites through a google or yahoo search.
The firefox browser won't download secure or unsecure site. I type in the full name of the site, and it just hangs. I do not receive an error message.
Internet explorer continues to work fine on the computer.
I emptied my cookies and search history and updated the proxy setting to "no proxy". I still have the same problem.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall firefox with the hopes of changing the initial settings (to see if I should have disabled or abled more of the boxes). Unfortunately, the program didn't fully uninstall .. and the firefox reverts to where it was the last time I logged on.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

If the Reset does not work, try this.

hello, there are reports that the foxit pdf plugin is causing this issue. you might want to disable this plugin in firefox > addons > plugin until foxit offers a fix/update for its plugin.

I did remove Bing from the drop down menu, but it is still in Firefox as main search engine. I also did a back up and restore. Nothing has worked so far. I read a post that people were able to delete Bing from Explorer. I guess using Explorer will be my last resort.

You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.
Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.

Make sure you have checked off iCloud contacts in your Contacts app under Groups in upper left corner.

Always backup your important data before upgrading to a new Mac OS X.
Lion doesn't erase the drive but better to be safe than sorry.
And run Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities). Verify and if necessary repair the startup disk before upgrading.

No, the patch was created on top of Solaris 10 packages. The patchadd utility requires that the VERSION strings match between the installed package's pkginfo file and the pkginfo files inside the patch. Unless the base package did not change between Solaris 9 and Solaris 10, the patch will not get applied because of the VERSION mismatch. But it is very unlikely that the packages did not change between the two releases.
Even if you were to be able to install it, there could be dependencies that the patch's binaries have on other Solaris 10 binaries.

Jeanne, you are going to have to give us some additional information: what kind of files are they, on what computer, using what application, were they made, how was the USB key formatted in the first place?

How can I pass the userId and pasword to proxy while opening the URLConnect

First I was having problem on how can I send a userid and password for proxy authentication while trying to connect to a servlet from a applet, finally I figured out that I need to add Authenticator as
Authenticator.setDefault(new MyAuthenticator());
and everything started working fine but only from a java application not from a applet. In applet when I try to add a Authenticator I get exception that cannot add defualt Authenticator. Please someone help how can I add Authenticator in a applet? I dont think for adding a defualt autheticator I need to get my applet signed. Please comment.

And by the way for sending the password I tried the following code which doesn't use Authenticator and it worked. U can use it what Iam doin is iam using my own base64encoder instead of jdk's which was giving problems to me. U can try with jdk base64encoder and if u get any problems let me know I'll send u my version of the encoder.
If u r using any images in ur applet and getting the images by using getImage() method then probably while getting the image applet is prompting for user and password.

I can no longer access websites through the location bar (address bar).

A few days ago, my location bar (address bar) suddenly stopped working. When I typed in an address and clicked on Enter, nothing happened - and I mean nothing. The cursor at the end of what I had just typed into the location bar just sat there, blinking at me. Clicking on the arrow at the right end of the location bar didn’t work either. On the other hand, if I clicked on a link in a website or e-mail, I would be taken right to the website at the other end of the link. And when I clicked on a bookmark, I was taken to the bookmarked site. It is only when I type or paste something into the location bar that I am unable to reach the sought after website. Exiting and then re-entering Firefox did not help, nor did rebooting my computer. I was using version 6.0.2 at the time. I upgraded to version 7.0.1; that didn’t help either. Help!!!

Try disabling the Foxit PDF creator as it has an ask.com authorship signature.
If that doesn't work see if Firefox works in Safe Mode. If it does it is probably an extension problem.
