I can no longer read my adobe files in my documents, where I could before, what's changed? Help!

I could previously view these files with no problem, I have all the latest versions of adobe and plug in installed, when I try and open a file it tells me adobe reader could not open the file I am trying to open because it is either not a supported file type or the file has been damaged. I don't understand what is going on and need access to these files. Can anyone help please?

I think you need to change your Windows Explorer settings to show the file extensions, then you can clearly see what file types you have.
Those with .doc / .docx extensions should show the blue Word icon.
Those with .pdf extensions should show the red Adobe Reader icon.

Here is a post I assembled for another with a similar problem:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta. Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion). While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
Workarounds:
1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
2. If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
3. Upgrade to an Intel compatible versions of your software, or find alternatives that will open your data files;
3. Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:

I am using CC adobe Acrobat to combine multiple pdfs and add page numbers. Mac users can no longer read the page numbers but pc users can.

As of about 2 weeks ago the mac users can no longer read the page numbers they get a font error message and see only -- where the page information should be. The pc users do not have this same problem. When I replace our regular font (URW Grotesk) with a system font (Verdana) everyone is able to read the page numbers. This is a new issues, I have been creating these documents in the same way for years without a problem. I have been on hold and on and off calls for the last two hours, I keep getting hung up on once I find someone in adobe support to talk to!

I can no longer read e-mails from Yahoo Verizon. I can send them. I am getting a messageBox with the error "The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server incoming.yahoo.verizon.net responded: problem retrieving message."
I verified my settings, which were working up until I tried to read any mail from June 2014 onward.
Settings:
incoming.yahoo.verizon.net, port 995, POP3, SSL/TLS normal password, automatically download new message, leave messages on server
Running Fedora 20, Thunderbird 24.7.0

I assume Yahoo have reindexed all their mail yet again (Their service is rubbish really if oyu don't use web mail)
Open your profile folder, locate the popstate.dat file and delete it.
ALL mail currently on the server will download. if that is 100,000 mils then that is what it will be. You seriously need to consider using IMAP as they can not screw it up as badly as they do POP.

It's very unusual to get no results for PDF in the Application preferences list. It's possible that the file which stores those preferences might have become corrupted. Perhaps it would be best to rename or delete the file and let Firefox re-create it.
Here's how:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
Restart Firefox. After things setting down, check the Application preferences again to see whether PDF is listed and then set the drop-down on the right side to the desired action.

Windows user can no longer connect to my File Sharing IP address

Hello,
Since updating to OS X 10.4.9, Windows users can no longer connect to my file sharing IP address.
I have had no problems when I was using 10.4.8, and I have re-checked both the Windows computer and my Mac to make sure that the file sharing connection should be possible.
I think this may be some sort of firewall / security issue (?) in that the 10.4.9 update has downloaded something which now "hides" my Mac at this IP address. I am unsure how to resolve this problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion? Much obliged, in advance.

Can the Mac connect to the PC?
Have you checked the Workgroup is the same on the Mac
in Directory Access>CIS/SMB?
Have you tried turning off the Firewall for a test?
Has the IP changed?

Thank you for the suggestive questions above. I haven't "tested" any of them because I simply became exasperated with the "change" in 10.4.9 and went back to system 10.4.8
Of course, now everything is right with the world and I can once again have my Windows computer connect to my Mac.

I can no longer play quicktime mov files from a canon firestore from an HDV camera that play on other macs and play in vlc. It happened all of a sudden. Files that I could play before no longer play. It seems to be something wrong with the quicktime codec management because the files do not play in premiere and final cut pro. In FCP it says: File Error: 1 File(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. These files work on other computers. I have four drives and it doesnt matter which file i attempt to open on each drive, these files are unreadable on this system. Please help. Possible issues might be a corrupted index, but i dont understand how that can go across four different drives.

Apple kindly updated Quicktime and rendered Firestore files unplayable. I think a recent update of iTunes was the culprit.
Solutions: What I did. Wipe the system disc. Re-install Snow Leopard. Re-install FCP7. Don't update Quicktime or iTunes to anything after Jun 2011. QT v7.6.6 is the last good version. That'll get your files back.
A colleague tried a different approach. For this you need a pre-July 2011 version of the file QuickTimeComponents.component. It is in the system/library/QuickTime folder. Delete your current one and drop in an old one.

I keep on getting a message from WebKit2WebProcess.exe that the LogTransport2.dill was not found. (I HATE PCs...) I tried reinstalling Acrobat 9. I tried reinstalling Safari. I even tried an older version of Safari. Nothing Helped. Others have tried it on their machine, and it worked fine. But I do not know what is the matter with mine. I am listening to embedded training files on the Quick Time player (I think). They cannot be copied to protect the information. You only have the option of listening. I used to be able to click on the Q in the audio strip and it would provide a diagonal arrow and this would allow me to expand the bar to a full screen. I then had the bar which would allow me to navigate in case I wanted to listen again or in case I wanted to move forward. After my upgrade, I can no longer expand the strip to a full screen with the adjuster. Now I have not chance to take a break in listening to these audios and most of them are at least an hour long. Thanks for your help.

Can no longer read "Comments" on New York Times website

I updated Flash Player on Monday to the latest version, but today (Tuesday) find I can no longer read the "comments" attached to various articles on the NYT website. Neither of our other home machines (an early iPad and a win7 laptop) have this problem, nor were they updated. I contacted NYT, and they said they can't duplicate the problem, nor are others reporting the problem.
My system is Windows 8 64bit, (not 8.1 and not touch-enabled). Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks.

The thing is... The NYT comments DON'T require or use Flash Player. They use Java, which is a separate plugin and has nothing to do with Flash.
How do I know? I disabled Flash and went to their pages:
There are the comments with NO Flash Player activated.
Try updating Java.
And BTW, you can't update Flash Player on an iPad, because there never was a Flash Player for iOS.

All of a sudden I can no longer read the text of my incoming mail, however if I click to reply I can read text then

Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings; will not erase any data, just resets network connections such as wifi, and cellular data; Hope this helps.
