I can no longer send mail

I can no longer send Mail but the Connection Doctor tells me everything is working properly. When I click the Send icon, the email just disappears and no activity is reflected in Mail Activity at the bottom of the screen. It also doesn't show up in the Sent folder.
Any suggestions on how I can rectify the situation?

  • Can no longer send mail through Apple Mail

Starting yesterday morning, I can no longer send mail via Apple Mail. I can receive it just fine, but when I try to send, it struggles for a minute, then leaves the message in my Outbox. When I open Mail's "Connection Doctor," it says "Could not connect to this SMTP server"; it says this for all three SMTP servers I routinely use, including smtp.mac.com.
No other computer in my house has this problem. In fact, if I switch to a different account on my Mac and use Apple Mail with these same smtp servers, it works fine.
Needless to say, this is completely mystifying to me. Does anyone have any idea what's happening, or how to correct the problem?
    Thanks.

Do my eyes deceive me? Am I dreaming? Could it really be true? Looks like Apple (finally) fixed this issue! Simply update your Mac to 10.5.5. It might reboot several times. That is normal. When it finally reaches the desktop open your Mail app and try sending. It should now work for you. I couldn't be any happier, after over a year without Mail it's finally working again! This is the update that everyone's been waiting for

  • Can no longer send mail - strange errors/activity

I'm hoping a guru can help me. This is driving me insane. My mail has worked perfectly for years. Over the past 2 days, it can no longer send mail. I can recieve, but not send.
It first began with error messages saying that it couldn't use Port 25. My ISP doesn't block this port, so I tried using four other mail servers from other email accounts. Again, all give the same error. Now when I try to send a message, they just sit in my out box. When I try to resend, it does nothing. The activity monitor quickly states "Copying message to outbox". That's it.
I'm at a loss. Any help is really appreciated.

Ignore this message, I JUST WORKED IT OUT.
It looks like there is another unsecure wireless network in our building and for some reason my Powerbook defaulted to using that, rather than my own wireless account.
So with this other connection I could surf/recieve but I couldn't send out.
The variables never cease to amaze me.

  • Can no longer send mail from exchange account

My send mail icon is now greyed out and I can no longer send mail. The only thing that I have done that I never do is I selected the "synchronize" option on the mailbox name after right clicking on it last night.
As far as Mail goes, I attempted to set up a MediaCom email box several days ago that never worked correctly, but I changed no settings on the exchange account and it was working great 24 hours ago. I've deleted the MediaCom email box.
Tried the usual quitting, rebooting but nothing is working, any ideas why this started and how to fix.

It is possible the Evil Starbucks empire has blocked SMTP sending as an antispam measure. You would need to log in to your email server using the smtpauth protocol. For example, Earthlink has an smtpauth.earthlink.net server for secure sending, which I was able to use sending from any public AP. Possibly T-Mobile has a similar authorized server.
But nowadays I just use Gmail, they make it easy and reliable to send from anywhere because they use a custom smtp port. Yeah, Gmail solved a multitude of problems with mobile sending.

How long has it been going on? I've had my yahoo mess up and if i wait a bit it resolves itself. Yahoo is doing something with their servers and it messes with your mail if your mail happens to be on one of those servers.

  • After upgrading to 8.0.2 I can no longer send mail

After upgrading iPad mini to 8.0.2 I can no longer send mail, only receive. Error msg "the recipient was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying". Have tried rebooting, also resetting network connections, still no good.

    Hi maxwell156,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that using Mail on your iPad is very important and is frustrating when it doesn’t work as you would expect. In this situation, I recommend reading over and using the information provided in the attached article to help the troubleshooting process.

  • Can no longer send mail after installing Yosemite

can no longer send mail after installing Yosemite

    Hi nwpmike,
When I uncheck "SSL" it's working well, but it's not very secure. When I leave SSL, I got in "Connection Doctor" the message "Trying to log in to this SMTP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct.", only for the SMTP. For the IMAP, the status in Green. It's also working well on the iPhone 6 with ios8 and other mac with OS X 10.9 and previous versions.
The only thing that can be involved is that the certificat used by my mail provider is expired.
With connection docteur, there is a button "Show Details". Here is the conversation when connecting to the smtp.

  • Can no longer send mail with Airport Extr

I can no longer send e-mail with Mac Mail. This problem cropped up all of sudden this morning.
The problem appears to be with my Airport Extreme.
If I bypass the router and go straight to the modem, I am able to send mail.
After I connect the Extreme back up, I can no longer send any mail.
I am having this problem with both a Mac Pro and iMac.
I did not make any changes to the settings on my Extreme.
Can anyone suggest what I might be able to do to correct this problem?

    Well, it happened again.
This morning I was sending out a bunch of emails and around the 10th one they started kicking back.
This time I did not fool with any of the settings on my computer.
I turned off both the modem and router.  Started them back up and the problem still exists.
The last time this happend, about a week ago, it started working again within an hour.
This problem ony crops up when I am sending many emails at the same time
Throughout the rest of the week it works fine.
This time I by-passed the router and the mail will go out.
So it looks like someting is going on with the router.
Whenver I hook the router back up, outgoing mail will not work.
It says it cannot send mail using my server.
I double checked all of my mail setings and nothing has changed
I also did a hard rest on the router, but it did not help.
Again this problem is with 2 computers.
I have an early version of Airport Extreme Model A1143.
    It's around 5 years old.
Whenever I call my ISP they claim everything checks out on their end and they don't offer any help.
I am sure if I leave the router unplugged for a day or so, it will start working again.
Is there any way a router can break down and allow incoming mail and internet but not outgoing mail?
I am am at wits end with this problem.
I would be willing to go out and get the latest Airport Extreme if I knew for sure it would cure this problem.

  • I can no longer send mail from my gmail account on my iPad.

I can send mail from my iPhone just fine so it isn't gmail. I deleted the gmail app and reinstalled it; restarted my iPad; and checked the settings. My wifi is working as is evidenced by the fact that I wrote and posted this from my iPad with no problems. Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

After up grade I can not send mail from road runner account. Message says server needs password, server says it won't support a password. Any thoughts?

UPDATE: I was able to set up the account using Eudora, and it worked fine. I guess it means that there's something funny happing with Mail.

  • Suddenly can no longer send mail

    All of a sudden I am receiving the following error message when sending mail from Mail;
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your outbox until it can be delivered.
The SMTP server "smtp.mac.com" doesnt support authentication. Please check your account settings and try again.
Well have done that as suggested as well as everything else that is suggested on apple.com.
An unusual bservation I have made is that in the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) box, instead of it reading simply smtp.mac.com , it reads as smtp.mac.com:paulwmurphy and i am not sure if this is the problem, as i cannot find a way to remove the paulwmurphy from the box, assuming of course it is not supposed t be there.
    Any ideas?
The weird thing is that my wife had a similar problem on her PowerMac G5, which lasted 8 months. She had to keep using webmail to send.
The Apple help people simply repeat was is on the website and are of little help.
Can anyone else help me sort this out? I do not want to keep going to webmail to send all the time. I receive mail without any issue.
    Thank you in anticipation.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
As I am sure you know, the smtp.mac.com in fact does support authentication -- that is the only way it can be used.
In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information, click on the Outgoing server name, and choose Edit Server List. Highlight any listing with smtp.mac.com, and then remove server. Next click on Add Server, and re-enter the name, then click on Server Settings and choose Password, enter Username and Password again, and choose to use Port 587. Let us know how this works out.

  • Can no longer send mail from other apps

    Problem:
If I go into any app (other than Mail) and try to send a message (via email) and I either get nothing or some apps will say that "Mail needs to be configured in order to do this."  After doing a restore on my iPod touch (4th Gen., running the latest iOS5) I had only configured a few accounts under "Mail, Contacts, Calenddars", and *was* able to send mail from other apps just fine.  Now that I have 13 accounts I cannot; not only is Mail configured and working fine (by itself,) but I now only have one account with "Mail" activated, and it is indeed set as the "default account" in Settings anyhow.  This is frustrating since some apps depend on email to let me export its data but is also a nuisance since it makes it more difficult for me to share content with others.
Has anyone encountered this bug and/or have a tip?
