I can not burn dvds anylonger with my MacPro. Why ?

Hi everyone. I already posted this message in another thread but got no useful replies.
Configuration: MacPro Early 2008, MacOSX 10.6.8
I can not burn dvds anymore and do not know why. I can play dvds and cds though!
The following is the usual error message displaying after clicking the button burn :
I have run Disk Utility from the Install cd of Snow Leopard and the small things which needed repairs have been repaired.
I have reset the PRAM and the SMC (System Management Controller). Nothing.
I have set up a new user account with admin privileges but it did not work.
Please, note that I am trying to burn the same Kodak Pro dvds for photo and data archival that I burned in the past in the same MacPro.
I am actually burning my dvds using my MacBook Pro connected with my MacPro through Airport but it's a very slow process, of course.
Any piece of advice ?
Thank you !
Paolo

I can not burn a CD with my itunes anymore. It tells me to re download itunes. I have done that and still have the same problem. When I do try, Missing disc recorder keeps coming up. Please help!!!!

    Hello again, Stew.
Also when I open itunes it gives me a warning and says "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importingand burning cd's and dvds are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
With that one let's first try a reboot and repair.
Reboot the PC (very important), and the do a *repair install* of iTunes.
Go to your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch without the error message now?
If no luck there, try checking for a device filter conflict in your registry:

  • Can't burn DVD's with Tiger

Since I installed Tiger, I can't burn DVD's using either Toast 6.1 or the native Apple burning software. I keep getting "Mismatch at byte...sector9. Verification failed." I am trying to back up a variety of files. I can burn CD's on my iBook G4, but I can't burn any DVD with any kind of content on my Pioneer. I tried PatchBurn with no success. Any suggestions? TIA. --- Dave

My guess is your Pioneer drive is connected via Firewire or USB 2. The OS 10.4 install or updates may have caused some problem with the Firewire or USB 2 communication with the drive. Oftentimes these problems are fixed by applying Apple's Combined System Updater. In your case that is the 10.4.4 combined update. It doesn't matter if you are already running 10.4.4.
Otherwise you may need to do an archive and reinstall of 10.4 to get the link working properly.

  • Can i Burn Dvd's with my Powerbook G4

    Hi,
I have a Powerbook G4 Running Mac OS X Tiger it has a Matshita cd-rw cw-8123. I was under the impression when i bought my powerbook that i could durn Dvd Movies with it, as i thought it was standard with any Powerbook G4.
Please can someone assist with the following.
    1 - Should i be able to burn Dvd's
2 - Can i get the software added to Durn Dvd's

    Simon -
Earlier versions of iDVD and Panther did not allow you to burn directly from iDVD to an external DVD burner. With the current version of iDVD and Tiger, you can. You just have to select the external burner. However, you can also burn your DVD as a Disc Image to your hard drive, and then burn the contents of that Disc Image to your DVD using Dragon Burn or Toast. Finally, there is an Easter Egg available that will work with Panther, enabling you to burn directly from an older iDVD and Panther to an external drive.
I wish I could be more specific and offer more step-by-step instructions, but it's been awhile since I did that. But, here are some links that you will find to be more helpful than I can be:

  • Can not burn CD's with the latest iTunes update

I accepted the latest iTunes software update and I am now using iTunes 10.5.1.  When I go to burn a Disc, my computer (not just iTunes freezes).  I tried running the diagnostic and it freezes when I select my CD/DVD Drive.  I spoke to a senior tech person at Apple and they indicated that the latest version of iTunes conflicted with GEAR drivers that were installed with other CD burning softwares (I have not downloaded anything new and the GEAR Drivers never conflicted with ITunes b/4 this last update).
I am running windows 7 on a brand new HP Slimline Pavillion.  I checked with HP and there are no firmware updates for my computer  (nor Optical).
Will at Apple sent me this link:
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=GEAR_Powered_Products
I followed the process, even though it involves going into the registry and deleted the 32 and 64 bit GEAR Driver.  It did not solve the issue!!
Is anyone else having this problem?  HELP?!?!?!?!? AL

You can edit them using Get Info.

  • Can not burn dvd rw disc

Since downloading 7.2 I every time iI try to back up my purchased music play list on a dvd rw I tunes tells me to insert a blank disk. On the old version of I tunes I never had this problem. There is nothing wrong with my dvd burner as iI went to the burning software that came with my computer and had no problem using a rw dvd. this proves to me it must be a bug in the new itunes software. can someone confirm this.

Hi - I am having a similar problem although I use DVD+R. The backup seems to work (I dont get an error message) but at the end there are no files on the disk and when I try to use the disk again I am told that it's not a blank disk!

    yes it does - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC623Z/A/iLife-11

iLife ’11 also includes iWeb and iDVD for creating instant websites and burning your own DVDs.

  • [kde] can not explore DVD video with dolphin

with KDE 4.14 I don't have the option "explore with dolphin" when I insert a dvd-video,
it's not normal because with older versions of KDE I had an option "explore/open with dolphin" when I insert a dvd video
it seems a regression or a problem with kde package in archlinux

in fact all is ok, the problem occurs only with a DVD in my collection

  • SuperDrive will not burn dvds

I can burn CDs,play CDs and watch DVDs. I can not burn DVDs. I have iLife but I cannot run iDVD because it is not compatible with of my version of OS. Why I don't know. Why should I have to buy every upgrade that come out? I can live with that, sort of, but why can't I burn a data DVD? I looked for a new driver but there does not seem to be one for Leopard. will I have to buy iLife 09 to bun a DVD?

  • Can't burn DVD

    Dear,
I can't burn DVD +R with my macbook pro. Bought verbatim, sony, fujifilm dvd's nothing works.
An error shows up in toast something like this:
Sense Key = Medium Error sense Code = 0x73, 0x03
    Kind regards,

I don't burn dvd's very often, so the challenge is to remember when I do.
Just remember that a disk image is like a "virtual disc", so you want to make Copy using the Image File.

  • Since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) - i can not burn Data-DVDs anymore...

    System: iMac G4, 1GHz, 1GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.5, 4x SuperDrive (SONY DVD RW DW-U10A)
    Dear Apple Support,
since Mac OS X 10.4.4 (same with 10.4.5) i can not burn a Data DVD-RW anymore. It is so annoying. I want to burn my backup on a DVD-RW with the Burn Folders in Mac OS X. it is not possible.
The Finder burn dialog hangs at the "ending burning process". It is so annoying.
It's not possible to erase this "half burned" DVD-RW too! So I have here a lot of destroyed DVD-RWs around me...
The burning of DVD-RWs is a problem since 10.4.0 here on my machine. With 10.4.3 it was half o.k. ... But since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) nothing works anymore.
Your product "Mac OS X Tiger" is nearly one year in the market. And burning a Data-DVD is not a exotical thing. It is a essential feature of a Operating System today. So what are you doing in your Test-Labs?
I am sitting here since 1 year with an Operating System from Apple an it doesn't works in the essential features.
Whats about your slogan "It just works"?
What happens with the quality of Apple?
Under 10.3.9 Panther i can burn everything. It absolutly no problem there.
So i don't understand what are you doing with Tiger?
    It's so annoying!
    Regards
    Roessner

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • 1 Ghz Tibook with superdrive - can't burn dvd's anymore

    Hi,
I keep having problems burning DVD's with my Ti-Book. Am running 10.3.9. It starts the burn (like for iTunes), but then it quits with an error. The drive used to work, and its still burns audio cd's just fine.
The partially burned DVD does show it burned about 1/4 of the disk surface, but then it stops.
    Sound familiar?
    thanks

There is a big difference in iTunes and the Media you choose.
DVD-R Media is the most widely used and recognized by players and computers alike. Many older computers are not able to read or write DVD+R Media and likewise are not able to use the higher speed media of 16X as well.
Some of the newer high speed media is marked on the packaging that it will burn at 1X,2X,4X,8X,16X but you must read the packaging.
Itunes will burn CD or MP3, (DATA is different than Audio or VideoTS)
Some users find the Software funished in there machines harder to use than the Roxio Toast 8 or Popcorn that is basicly choose what you are burning and add the folder and click burn. Were-as iTunes and iMovie are a little harder to use, in that first you must click your Blue Apple and then choose System Preferences and then choose CD-DVD and select what you want to happen when you insert either a Commercial CD or blank CD and the same with a Commercial DVD and a blank DVD.
Burning CD's and mp3's as well as Data and Music and Video TS DVD's each one is different and requires different settings unless you use Toast, which is much easier. Using Toast you simply select Audio, Data, or Video, drag the contents to the box and click burn. This will read write and verify your project if you are using the correct media for your burner.
ERROR messages are caused by the wrong media many times.
Remember if you are using itunes to burn with you need to use CD's if you are trying to copy music to DVD's your best bet is to use the disk utility.
