I can not import my photos from iphone into iPhoto

hi,
I've amassed around 18Gbs of photos and videos on my iphone and have never been able to import them!
In the old iphoto it would start importing then stop (deleting photos imported so far) since upgrading to Lion I can't even see the iphone appear in iphoto.
BTW I'm really trying to back the phone up so I can more to the iphone 5  - but that's failed (well I gave up after 6 hours!) so I thought I would import photos and speed up the backup process..
Why is this so hard!
Any tips?
J

Some suggestions:
Restrart the Phone, if that fails reset the phone.
Try use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder)

  • How can I import psd photos from Elements into iPhoto?

I cannot import psd photos into iPhoto without saving them to the desktop, which is a real hassle (hundreds of photos).  Am I doing something incorrectly?  Thanks for any advice.

I may be preaching to the choir here but this might be of help to you:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.  3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 or later the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto (click on the Edit button) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu).  This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • I can not import large videos from iPhone to iPhotos

The longer videos will not tranfer to iphoto all other videos and photos will transfer. Its from a iPhone 5 to a mac.

I got it to work my hard drive was too full. I never thought i had it that close to full.

  • Can't import photos from iPhone into iPhoto

If i try to do a batch import, it says there's a problem downloading an image. If I try to import one image, it says the file is in an recognizable format. It's a jpg.
Any ideas how I can get my photos and videos off my iPhone and why it won't import?

When googling the error number, the second and last result (your post is the first) on http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=946758&page=8 says :
"Nevermind, I've tried using image capture and preview to import but i keep getting "The operation couldn't be completed.(com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error-9912.)"
After doing some digging around i found this old (2006) response from the apple threads:
    REFRESH PHONE
Hold down the power button and the home button until the Apple appears on the screen, then let go.
    REFRESH SYNC HISTORY
Find iSync under Applications and Open it.
On the top menu click on iSync and choose Preferences.
Under the Advanced Section click on Reset Sync History. (It may appear as nothing happened, but something did in the background, the history was reset)
Go ahead and close iSync and then try importing your photos with iPhoto again
    It worked like a charm"
Resetting the Sync history on iSync and soft rebooting the iPhone surprisingly did it for me. I'm not sure it's an universal fix and it's quite cumbersome (I forgot I still had an iSync application on the mac).

  • Can not import large videos from iphone to MAC or PC.

When I try to import photos from my iPhone 4s to my MAC (with iPhoto) or PC(with explorer) I got no problem at all but with videos larger than 2-3 gb, I receive the message:iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image. Anyone has an idea how to overcome this?

Use Image Capture to upload the video files to a folder on the Desktop and import into iPhoto from there.

  • SL & permissions when importing photos from iPhone into iPhoto

    Got a weird one here.
SL, iphoto '09, iphone os 3.
Before SL, I could import photos from the iphone into a shared iphoto library and the default file permissions on uploaded photos would be read-only to all users, and so all users of the Mac could happily see all uploaded photos.
However, since SL, the default permissions to all are No Access (changing the permissions on the underlying file sort this, but that's a tedious manual operation of course).
Strangely though if I connect a digital camera then the default permissions for photos uploaded from that are read-only to all as desired. So it does look like an issue around the combo of SL and iPhone.
Anyone got any ideas on how I can get the behaviour I want with SL?
    Thanks,
    Marlon

    HI,
    Try repairing disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Import enhanced photos from iPhone to iPhoto

How do I import enhanced (red-eye corrected, cropped, tinted) photos from my iPhone (iOS7) to iPhoto? I see the iPhone appearing in iPhoto but when I import the photos only the original is copied. The "enhanced" version do not show up in iPhoto.

    Hello bbb34vball,
Since that article didn't help, I would suggest trying the steps in this article next:
iOS: Unable to import photos to computer - Apple Support
If that doesn't resolve your issue, you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.

  • Importing existing photos from folders into iPhoto ends up duplicating files

I am new to the Mac and iPhoto and am trying to test some things out with iPhoto.  I have copied exisiting photos from my old PC into the Mac Pro in various folders and now want to import them into iPhoto.  However, it seems when I do that, I end up with duplicate files .... with the original in a /pictures/folder and the iPhoto version buried deep in a master folder in the iPhoto library.  Is there a way I can easily import these existing photos into iPhoto without ending up with duplicates?  I realize it's better to have two copies than one but will actually have two or three back up copies too.  Any advice appreciated!  thanks!

That is how it is supposed to work. iPhoto will be the photo manager and will also manage all image files. If you are using iPhoto forget about the extra folders with image files in Pictures and use only iPhoto to access the photos.
See the user tips on how to access the photos in iPhoto from other applications:  (iPhoto for Mac)

    iPhoto and File Management
    Exporting From iPhoto
If you do not want a photo manager and prefer the Finder, use PICASA.  But give iPhoto a chance. It is very versatile and in the long run much saver than letting image files sitting around in open folders. You have always access to your photos from other applications using the provided tools, like the Media Browser.

  • Cannot transfer photos from iPhone into iPhoto 9

So I was transferring vacation pictures and had no problem uploading pictures from my memory card into iPhoto but when I plugged in my iPhone and clicked 'import selected', a box came up saying "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPhoto library". Does anyone know whats going on and how I fix this problem? I have uploaded photos from my iPhone many times before this and have never had a problem.

And it's  iphoto '09.  I'm not quite sure what that means though.  Do you mean on the hard drive? Sorry, not super computer savy.

  • How can I import a "book" from Aperture into iPhoto?

  • ITunes not importing Voice Memos from iPhone into library.

I have the settings on my iPhone to sync voice memos, yet when I sync with my iMac, it doesn't import the voice memos that I have in my voice memos list into my iTunes library for playing back outside of the Voice Memos app. What's wrong, and how do I fix it?

I found the answer, at least it worked for me.
    Here ya go:
    1) open the Voice Memos app on your iPhone
    2) on any memo: click the little blue arrow on the right
    3) Click the next arrow in the top most box this will put you in the "Label" screen
    4) From the "Label" screen: click the arrow next to "Custom"
    5) In the Custom screen: give the memo a name (click Done)
    6) Click the left arrow (top left) to go back to your memos.
You'll see that you memo as a name. I changed mine from "4:25 PM" to "Fishcakes".
    7) Sync you iPhone and you are good to go.

  • Can't finish importing photos from iPhone to iPhoto

I have about 2,000 pictures in my iPhone 4.
When I try to import my photos from iPhone to iPhoto Library, it stops importing after about 250 photos. Keeps saying 1,489 remaining(something like that) photos and the picture image on your iPhoto stops or freeze there. (Normally you can see what's importing into your iPhoto)
Tried rebooting the MacPro Tower and iPhone. My computer is up to date.
I was not sure if I had corrupted photo images, so I deleted bunch of photos around where iPhoto would stall.
I have no idea what's going on. Could someone please help me?
    Thanks,

Try use Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) to move the files to the Desktop and import from there.

  • How to import edited photos from iphone to Windows-based laptop without losing XMP edits

When I import photos from iphone into Lightshop all edits are lost. how do I prevent that?
    thanks
    Robert

You fail to understand the question. "How can I import edited photos from iPhone 5S to PC (Windows 7)?" The key is that the photos taken on my iPhone have been edited on the iPhone. The original photo exists in "Photo Stream," and the edited photo exists in "Camera Roll."
When I import (synch, transfer, any synonym you prefer is fine with me) photos, they are written to two areas available on my PC:
    Photostream images are at
       Computer\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream\
and Camera Roll (edited phots) are at
       C:\Users\[my name]\Pictures\[synch-date]\
The images shown in "C:\Users\[my name]\Pictures\[synch-date]\" (the Camera Roll photos) are not as they were edited, however. I suspect that the iPhone "edits" images by applying a layer that manipulates the image without actually editing the file.
I have found so far that my best recourse is to import photos to my PC, edit them there in Photoshop (or other software), and then upload the images as I want them edited back to the iPhone. I would prefer to simply edit the pictures once on the iPhone and be able to import the edited files to my PC.

  • I can't import my photos from my iPhone 4 by iPhoto or image capture

i can't import my photos from my iPhone 4 by iPhoto or image capture.
i tried to import but in iphoto or image capture, there is no iphone in device list (they can't reconize iphone)
    but itunes reconize my iphone.
p.s. my iphoto, iOS, OS X are newest version.

    Hi,
    I had this problem.
I don't know the best way to resolve this but i tell you how i did it.
1 - I saved my iphone on the mac.
    2 - I restaure it with 5.0.1
3 - Itunes have restaured the origin ios 5.0.1 and use the save to restaure the apps, datas, photos...
After the restaure, the iphone was seen on itunes and iphoto and others...
    Best regards, Henry.
