Windows error msg: "Can not write to drive G: Joe's iPod"

Halfway thru the download process (1780 songs) from itunes to my ipod I get a windows error msg:
"Can not write to file G: Joe's ipod. All the data has been lost. Check for an error on your computer or network."
Getting the error msg: " Can not write to drive G: Joe's ipod. All data has been lost, your computer or network may have failed."
"Windows/ My computer" shows my ipod as drive G: and itunes starts up properly when I plug my ipod into my firewire port. About halfway thru the download (1780 songs) the transfer from itunes to my ipod stops and I get the above error message. (Never worked with USB). I am not on a network.
According to tech supt, I have:
-Installed Service Pack 2,
-Restored ipod to factory settings
-Installed update 5.0.1. Everything worked fine last Feb with the version 4 of itunes when I first loaded everything up.
Have tried to reinstall version 4, but no luck.
My ipod charges fine thru the firewire cable.
Any ideas?? Thanx anyone.

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that isn't fully working. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software

Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software (For example from Solidworks).
When I try to right click on a JPEG, a notice window appears written: "Windows Explorer has stopped working - Windows is
checking for a solution to the problem" and then the notice box disapears, the desktop appears and I can continue working.
From the other side - If I try to save as JPEG a screen of Solidworks (like a view of a part) the Solidworks falls but the JPEG
is created (I can see its name in the directory I created it).
I can open the JPEGS with the Paint software if I want but not with the Windows Photo Viewer.
I have the feeling that the Windows Photo Viewer disapeared from my computer - just a feeling.
I will appreciate your assistance.

That message is usually a sign that you tried to roll back to an earlier build of iTunes, but occasionally I've seen it connected to a new upgrade. This technique should fix things.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Ubuntu linux machine can not write to connected usb hard drive

Hi, I bought a WRT610N router. I connected my USB drive to it, and it is working fine with my Vista Machine. However, my Ubuntu linux machine can not write to it. It can read it great, but it can not write. If I connect the drive directly to the Ubuntu device, it reads and writes fine.
I've set all the permissiosn and such in the router setup. I didn't need to do anything in Vista. Is there something I need to do in Ubuntu? I'm new to Linux so Imay have missed something.

I have my office mail in inmumm13.tcs.com(An IBM mail service Lotus Domino web access,its a webmail).
I can see the mail contents.
But when I go to "Reply" or "Reply to All" I can not see anything and hence can not write anything in the mail body.

I was going to suggest - Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings, but if you are restoring to factory settings, that should restore the settings back to factory defaults. But if you are restoring from a backup, after restoring to factory settings, try resetting all of the settings and see if that fixes it.
It might be something in your backup.

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac". Write down what it says about "version"and report that here. Now continue to "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
Even my 12 year old Mac lets me download the newest iTunes. Of course I can't install it but any computer can download the installer files so we need to know precisely what you are trying and what error messages you are seeing.

Final Cut can not write file

I suddenly can not edit a project. Final Cut X is telling me that it can not write the file, due either to a permissions issue or insufficiant space. Yet, neither of these seems likely. Here is why:
Permissions: The project file is on an external drive and as such, permissions do not appear to be a relevant issue.
Insufficiant space: I have roughly 1/2 tb of available space on the external drive where the file resides. The file in question is several hundred gb in size, but given the amount of available space on the drive, I do not think that should be the issue.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Tom, that’s the weird thing…everything was fine one day, then a day later, it wasn’t. And nothing had changed to speak of. Sure, I was using the computer for other things but I didn’t install any new hardware/software or anything like that, the amount of free space on the various drives didn’t experience any sudden changes, et cetera.
FCP has all the updates installed, so it is as up to date as possible. The same with the OS. But again, neither of these have been updated since before the problem suddenly just appeared. The source media is on the same drive and referenced by alias, not actually imported into the project files. There were no errors regarding those files from withing FCP. I believe the defaults for FPX are at default in regard to things such as the cache files. At least, I find nothing in the basic preferences which would change that and I have not gone into any project specific settings anywhere to make such a change. But in light of your previous comments, I’m wondering if there isn’t some way to direct FCP to use another drive — one with more free space available — as the cache drive.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
