I can only add songs to itunes library, not directly to my ipod.

When I try & add a song to my ipod, nothing happens. I've tried drag & drop, add file...
& in Summary, I have checked Manually manage music & all the other boxes.
Why can't I add songs to my ipod directly?

Okay, never mind. I unchecked the 2nd box. :/ Doh...

  • Can't add songs to itunes library

I have a file with 87 songs in it and when i went to add the file to itunes library only 57 came up. i have tried adding songs by them selves. checked there tags and song names, and everything is normal but itunes wont add them... and no error message apears when doing so *** ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY PLZ~

Try http://www.gromkov.com/faq/faq2004-0086.html it is an MP3 validator on your mp3's that will not play.
It could also be that the TAGS are not correctly written. There are a lot of problems when the tags are in the ID3v2.4 format. It's better if you switch to writing ID3v2.3 UTF-16 Tags. You can us a program like Mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html) to write the tags, and remove unwanted tags.
Ps: As always make backups of your audio files before you try anything.

Since you can only sync your iPod with one computer at a time, you'll need to copy the contents currently on your iPod to your new iTunes library first.  See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to accomplish this task.

  • Can't add songs to iTunes 10.4.1

Previously, I was able to add songs to iTunes by directly dragging files from any location to any iTunes playlist or the general Music section and this would automatically add the new songs to my library.
After the 10.4.1 update, I can no longer drag songs into iTunes to add to the library.
Attempting to drag and drop crashes iTunes (beach ball appears and I have to force quit).
The only way to add songs is to use the "automatically add to..." folder nested in the iTunes Media folder.
This makes adding songs a much longer process because I have to copy the files into the designated folder and wait for iTunes to automatically add them to the library.
Previously, when I was able to drag new files into a playlist and the files would be copied to the library's main directory, it made it easier to see—right away—the new files added to the library via the playlist, instead of having to deal with smart playlists.
    Does anyone have this problem?
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I have tried reinstalling iTunes already.

My problem originated from the fact that I have upgraded to LION.
My old Itunes library was still saved in a folder called previous systemd. (wel done software devellopers).
I have dived up my iTunes books and refreshed my knowledge and now in advanced settings of itunes specified the path to the library in this folder and have my whole 63 gig library back.
I have also a new program called PowerTunes and with this program I can make iTunes finding every music file or folder on my computer. So instead of me adding things in Itunes which for some reason is difficult now I let my new program find every piece of music ever installed on any dik connected to my computer.

  • Can't import songs into itunes library...

For some reason it isn't working. I took a couple of songs off my ipod via ephpod and i tried opening them using the import function in itunes. I open it, but the songs aren't added into the library at all. Maybe it might be the file format? Anyone have anyway to convert the songs into the accepted format?

    Yep,
I have been having the exact same problem now for over a year. First, it was like six hundred songs--wouldnt play on my ipod and then wouldnt add into my itunes library. It happened to correspond with an update of itunes and the ipod firmware. It has only gotten worse and now I am in fear of updating anything further. I have been looking for answers to this problem for a long time, if you happen to get an answer that works would you let me know about it too?
    Thanks!

  • Can you erase songs from iTunes, but keep them on the iPod???

Hi, I'm a newbie and tried to post this question earlier, but I'm not sure if it worked.
I'm wondering if there is any way to update your ipod, then take some of the songs on itunes, but still plug your ipod in later and keep those former songs on the ipod even if they're not on itunes. I'm thinking this isnt possible. But I wanted to make sure. I have limited HD space, but a 30GB ipod, so I was considering my options.
    thanks!
    angela

Set the iPod to sync manually; you can then delete songs from iTunes without them being deleted from the iPod automatically. You should keep another copy of the songs if you do this, as they can easily be lost if they are only on the iPod.

  • Can't import songs to iTunes library

So, I've looked around and seen that other people have experienced this same problem. However, the solutions provided in those various discussions proved to be useless for me.
My issue is that when I try to add songs to my iTunes library, nothing happens. They don't show up anywhere on iTunes- not in the library's list of music, not in the Recently Added playlist, nowhere. I don't receive an error message or any other sort of notification that something has gone wrong; literally nothing happens. I don't have iTunes Match, which I read in other discussions was causing the problem for a great deal of other people. I can't think of any particular reason why this should be happening all of a sudden.
The odd thing is that I'm actually able to delete songs that are already in my library and re-add those same songs without any problem. I only encounter the problem when I try to add music that isn't already in my library.
I'm using OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 and I have iTunes updated to version 11.3.
If anyone knows of anything that I can try to fix this, I'd greatly appreciate it. If you need more information to be able to help, just ask and I'll let you know what I can.
    Thank you!
    ~Charlie

I can take an Excel spreadsheet and force it to be listed as a mp3 but that won't make it one, so I don't know how reliable listings are.  My computer is 12 years old and I don't use new QT but I haven't heard of it ever automatically converting anything.  Anyway, my feeling is these are not normal mp3s.
Try getting information on the file with Media Info - http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net - to get details of codecs used in multimedia, to see if it really has audio data in it.  If this is from a questionable source it may be questionable period.
You can also try playing the file with VLC media player which plays about anything possible.

  • How can I add songs to itunes music folder without them being duplicated within the folder (not on my hard drive)?

I have music files all over the place and want to put them all in itunes with no duplicates and get rid of all the rest. how can I do that? Some of my playlists are missing songs. I would like to move the playlist back to itunes from my ipod without having to put the songs in my media folder yet again! I have wasted so much time fooling with this. Really what I am trying to get at through all of this is to run the songs on the ipod through ivolume so they play equally.
Can anyone make sense of this for me?

It sounds like you have a few different problems.
To find all your music, try using a spotlight search. Type "kind:music" in the spotlight search (the magnifying glass in the far upper-right corner ) then choose "show all in finder". You'll end up with a window that shows all your music files, regardless of where they are on your hard drive. But don't move any files, because that may confuse iTunes (it won't be able to find files that you move, because - d'oh! - you moved them and now they're not where iTunes left them. That's usually how people end up in the kind of situation that you're in.)
If you want to let iTunes organize your music for you, make sure those options are turned on in the iTunes preferences (in the "advanced" section), then go to the "File" menu, choose "Library" and then choose "Organize library". That will put all your music in the iTunes Library folder (but leave copies of the originals wherever they were, all over your hard drive).
To find duplicates in your iTunes Library, choose "display duplicates" (or hold down the option key and it changes to "display exact duplicates" which might help in some cases). You'll still have to manually go through them to delete one of each duplicate.
Now you can start combining those three techniques - if you consolidate your music and let iTunes copy everything into the music folder, you'll know that iTunes safely has a copy of all your music in the iTunes Library folder. So you can do the spotlight search, and delete any duplicate files that are not in your iTunes library folder. Anything that's left over (that is, it's not a duplicate and it's not in the itunes music folder), you'll need to add to iTunes (try using the "automatically add to itunes" folder - spotlight search to find it -  anything you drop in there will get added to iTunes without leaving a duplicate file). Then you can use the itunes "duplicates" feature to find the duplicates in iTunes and fix those.

  • Can't add songs to iTunes after upgrade to OSX Lion

    Hi,
I have a problem since I updated my system to OSX Lion. While updating I migrated my iTunes library to my new system. I have a custom location of my music library on HD/DATA/MUZIEK. My library in iTunes is playable but I cannot add any songs to it. It says I don't have the right permissions. I have tried to restore disk permissions with the Disk Utility to no avail. I also tried to change the permissions of the mentioned folder. It says System: Read and write, Wheel: Read, Everyone: Read. I cannot change these values. Everything inside the music folder is set the same but I am able to change it. There is only one user installed on this Macbook Pro.
I would very much like to know how to solve this. Please help me.

  • Can't add music to iTunes Library

As the subject states, I am no longer able to add music to my iTunes Library. If I try to add a song, it tells me that I do not have permissions to write to my Music folder. I went to the Music folder's Get Info window, and under Ownership and Permissions, this is what it said:
    You can: Read & Write
    Details:
    Owner: admin (lock is locked)
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: No Access
By the way, 'admin' is my short name. I have tried repairing my permissions with Disk Utility, but it did not correct anything in my Music folder. I have looked at permissions for other folders, and some say 'staff' as the group. Should I change the group to that? This is becoming very frustrating. If anyone knows what may be going on here, please _do not hesitate_ to tell me.

Have you tried authorizing your computer? In iTunes go up to Store, then Authorize Computer. Type in your user name and password and click "Authorize". You will then get a pop-up window stating if your authorization was successful or not. Hopefully this will give you access to do as you please with your Music Library.

  • Can't Add Movies to iTunes Library

I have terabytes of home movies that I have imported from the camera into iMovie.  It dawned on me that I would like to watch these in my living room via my Apple TV III.  However, I'm having trouble adding these .mov files to my iTunes library. I added a handful, but when I tried to view them in my iTunes library (by double-clicking on the title in iTunes), I got a very low-res version of it that only shows a frame or two per second.  When I tried to view them on my Apple TV, I got an error message saying, "No content was found."
Subsequent attempts to add the iMovie .mov files were even less successful. When I try and drag any more home movies to iTunes, nothing happens.  The new additions do not show up in iTunes.  I try dragging the files to the Movies area of iTunes, a blue frame appears around the area, but when I let go of the files, nothing happens, nothing gets added to my iTunes library.
Can't Apple's iTunes software read files created by Apple's iMovie software?

I get the little box but if I mark the clip, and click okay, the window dissappear and nothing happens. I've underwent somewhat drastic measurements now, I'm currently re-installing iTunes. I can watch all movies, if that's what you mean
After I've re-installed iTunes, it finally works. Thank you all who tried to help me =)

  • Can't add songs from iTunes to iMovie

I'm having a new problem. I have the latest versions of iTunes and iMovie. I've used iMovie before and never encountered this - I can't add any songs to a track. When I try to do this, I get the error: "iMovie song could not be used because the original file could not be located." Please help.

I know this thread's fairly old, but I tried everything mentioned here and in a few other threads I saw on the web, and finally I found something that worked: It seems iMovie couldn't access the "main" library, but COULD access songs that were a assigned to playlists, when you select the playlist in the music selection pane. So, I made a playlist called "global" and put my entire library into it. I selected that playlist in iMovie, and now it can find every song I have!

  • Can only add mp3s to itunes by dragging individually, not through "Add to iTunes"

Obviously this poses a problem when you have 350GB of music to transfer..
Some background: I am a former PC user who sought a technician to recover files from a crashed PC hard drive. The technician recovered all files all transferred to an external HD (unfortunately not Mac formatted) and I connected to a new 4GB Mac mini. After transferring music files to a desktop folder, I can see my entire former itunes folder but around half of all files are grayed out. Sometimes it's the band names, sometimes the album or track names. My understanding is that these are hidden files, but after using the "killall finder" in terminal it does not change anything. If I go to "Add to itunes" I can pull up the folder but none of my music appears for me to sellect. I can individually drag any files (black or grayed) into itunes and they will work - they'll populate and back up in the mac's music files. This is the kicker, though - the grayed out mp3 are now black. They appear normal. The frustrating part is I can't shift files en masse, i can't only shift them by drilling down the file tree in my music folder and dragging groups of mp3s one album at a time. It would take me months and months of doing this to get everything onto itunes. PLEASE HELP! I cannot find any other examples of this on the net!! Is there software that can make itunes "see" the files again and enable me to import all at once?

Okay, never mind. I unchecked the 2nd box. :/ Doh...
