In Safari / Preferences - Security. Make sure Java is enabled.

RichardIt was not intended to be "snide". You said two separate things that at face value would be out of the ordinary.
I considered if it might be a typo for 31.7. Since 31.5 is the current formal release, I would have to thank you for volunteering to test a pre-release beta version. If it was truly 3.1.7 then it would appear that you have chosen, or have become stuck with a somewhat ancient version. In either case it's harder to reach out to you with any meaningful comments or advice. However I do watch various other sites and newsgroups and I don't see a clamour of distressed users, so it seems fair to suppose that this feature isn't actually broken in 31.7.
And you said XP 64. XP is obsolete and no longer supported and if there is a 64-bit version, then again you have set yourself apart from the mainstream.
I had a look at the comcast site and found some puzzling recommendations. Some users come here asking how to set up a secured connection in Thunderbird when it isn't offered by the server. Comcast are different, in that they mention the ports 143 and 587, and also 993 and 465. So far so good, in that security is actually on offer, but they also suggest that you enable SSL, regardless of which port is being used. It would be unusual and unconventional to offer TLS or SSL on ports 143 and 587. STARTTLS would be more credible on these ports.
Have you tried IMAP on 993 and SMTP on 465? SMTP on 587 with SSL, or TLS, is not impossible, but is improbable. -

If you still have the MobileMe account setting up the Mail App should be very simple BUT if you do not you WILL need the incoming and outgoing server setting and the easiest way is to follow the email cheat sheet by apple

With IMAP AT&T Account I can receive emails with no problem but can not send out emails. AT&T says it is a Mac Mail issue because I can send and receive with no problem on the internet.

You have an error or omission in the entries for the outgoing server. Somtimes it is easier to delete the account on the iPod and recreate it rather than trying to find the error. If you give us you provider and type of account (POP3, IMAP, Exchange) we may be able to provide more detailed information.

I just bought an iPhone and successfully transferred my existing Cingular number/service and synced everything up with no problems, but I can't seem to make phone calls. I successfully made two calls, but I've tried at least 20 times with no success. Nothing at all happens. It says on the phone that it's calling, but I can't hear a thing. Yet, I can receive phone calls with no problem. What's the deal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as now my old cell phone isn't working anymore and I need to be able to make calls!
Thanks!Try powering down the phone and then turning it back on. Could be the towers are not picking it up properly, lots of times the connection is not picking up the phone correctly. worked for me for a couple different phones.

It might have been reported stolen and remotely disabled. You can try booting into recovery mode and then connecting to iTunes:

I receive a message on imessage but when I try to reply I get a message saying "that person is not registered on imessage'' BUT that is incorrect because they just used imessage when they messaged me?! I checked all my settings etc. but I can't send to anyone. Does this imessage EVER WORK?

We keep getting the following error message when we try to open messages, both new ones and past ones: "The message from <so-and-so> concerning 'subject' has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
If we quit the application and reopen it, we can access the message, but then, a minute later, it'll revert to the error message.

welcome to this forum! I gather from your information that you are not ON-LINE when you try to open the message. Most likely you are using a phone-in acount and somewhere in your acccount settings, messages over a certain size (e.g. 30kB) are left on the server. You have to decide that you want to receive them, reconnect to your server and than the whole message is downloaded to your computer! Hope this is helpful, otherwise give more detalis about your mode of connection ad type of account (POP, IMAP, ??. Success Frank -
