Having problem with gmail smtp outgoing server.  Since going to google 2-step, and entering 16-digit code in gmail account, I can receive mail on my iMac, but cannot send.  I keep getting an error message that Mail "Cannot send message using Gmail (my assigned name) server."  What do I do?

    Confirm you did this: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/1173270?hl=en
You might also try removing all gmail passwords from your keychain in Keychain Access. Then connect again and enter the password code given by Google.

The iPad's Mail app has no provisions for creating groups. However, you can use a third party app that many users recommend.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • I can receive AOL mail on my iPhone but I cannot send email.

I can receive email for my AOL account on my iPhone but I cannot send email from the iPhone. I can send email OK from a computer. I have AT&T service.

razmee209 (and others in this community)... HELP!
I have the same issue - I can receive email on my iPhone, but cannot send messages.   Keep getting error message:  (Cannot Send Mail - The user name or password for "SMTP:[email protected]" is incorrect
This issue occurred when I changed my AOL password.   I also updated my password on my iPhone.   After exploring this issue more deeply, it appears that my iPhone did not update my password for outgoing mail (as that are more "dots" in the password field for my outgoing server account, than for the incoming server passward that was just updated.
I am unable to change ANY of the information or settings in any of the outgoing mail server accounts - except only to toggle each account ON or OFF.   All other information is "greyed" out, and unavailable and inaccessible.
I know that if I could just change (or somehow sync) the outgoing password to match the new incoming password.
    PLEASE HELP!!

  • Can receive mail, see first lines but blank when opened....

    Hi there,
I have been using my iPod Touch without problem for months. Got it updated last week and now I have a problem with my mail. I can receive new mail and the first few lines are displayed, but when I click on it to open it and read it, all the messages are blank. Anyone figured out a solution to this glitch? Many thanks!

I had the same problem (started 2 days ago) and also, when I was creating a new email I could enter text into the subject line but not in the body of the letter.
I did a reset and it solved the problem. To reset:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or battery symbol appears

    10.10.1 on macbook pro late 2011, iphone 6 (8.1.2)
Airport Extreme connected via ethernet to airport express. Same ssid
I can receive calls but when I try to make a call out of contacts, it says your iphone and Mac must be on the same wi-fi network.
    Any ideas?

  • Cannot receive mail on my ipad  but can send mail

this problem just started this morning.  I rebooted and checked themail settings - no dice

Occasionally, it seems that email settings in iOS just stops working rellably.
You can try resetting your iPad and this just might solve the problem,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute. Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
if this does not work, then go take a note of your email settings,
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calender > Account Name > and take a note of all the settings there.
then delete the account and then set it up again as a new account.
I know that this can be a nuisance but it should fix the problem.

  • Can't send but can receive text with certain number but can send/receive to others

After a year of texting with an out of network (T mobile) number, yesterday my phone became unable to send text to it.  It receives no problem, sends and receives to other numbers and the t mobile number is sending and receiving other numbers without issue.  I get an error message with the X envelope icon.  I've rebooted and had the old conversation deleted from the t mobile number.  I have no idea how to troubleshoot further

Success!  I tried *228 but no improvement.  Took the phone to Verizon and they blamed Facebook, which I think is close to the truth.  Verizon doesn't support texting to 11 digit phone numbers, so if your contacts are synched to something that uses that format, it might change the way the phone sees the contacts phone number when it tries to SMS the contact.  Lose the leading 1 and you should be OK.

  • I can log on icloud on pc but when i enter password on my ipad mini first gen with ios8 it tells me wrong password. and i can receive mail but cannot send any mail via icloud, gmail, yahoo never had to set this up with ios7. how do i resolve this?

I updated my ipad mini first gen 32gig (4.3gig free) to run ios8 8.0(12A365) and i have a problem sending emails. i can receive mail but when i send it fails. my dropbox works fine, safari, and other apps work fine on the internet just the receiving of mail. Do i need to add a new outgoing server, though i dont remeber having to do this when i updated to ios7. how do i resolve this?

Here's a troubleshooting article from Apple:  iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
It doesn't seem to cover your specific issue, but have you tried using a different network (either a different wi-fi network, or switching from wi-fi to cellular or vice-versa if you have a wi-fi+cellular iPad)?
For GMail, iCloud and Yahoo, copies of messages are stored on their respective servers, so you could try deleting the account on your iPad, then re-adding each account one at a time to see if that resolves the issue.

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try the following:
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.
