I can recieve but not send mail

I bought a mac book pro yesterday in combination with a time capsule; everything went fine until I tried to send an email...
it is very slow and now it is inpossible...

Yes this would be a outgoing mail issue. Make sure the smtp setting are correct. Some servers require authentication to send. Also make sure you are using the correct smtp settings for the ISP you are using.

  • Can recieve but not send email with Airport

    Hi there,
I'm currently using my mac to connect to the internet via an airport express configured on my partners powerbook, it all works fine to connect to the internet and to recieve emails through 'Mail' but i can't send any...
Could anyone offer any advice on how to reconfigure my settings to allow me to use my emails properly?
Incidently, the existing network connection i'm now using is through BT internet whereas my account is with virgin.net.
Why can i recieve mail but not send?
    OK, hope someone can help...
    Thanks, steven.

  • Can receive but not send mail

Because of buyout, had to switch over from Adelphia to Comcast this weekend. With the help of Comcast, reset Mac mail on both G4 and G3 running OS 10.4.9. Got everything finally working Sunday, but today, G4 will not send.
Error: "Message could not be delivered, will remain in Outbox until it can. Connection to server "smtp.comcast.net" on port 110 timed out." Any ideas?

    Hi,
I, too, got caught up in this Comcast busines. When I reset my Mail preferences per their instructions, I found that I could receive e-mail but not send it. After spending almost an hour with TWO of their so-called technical people, I was told that mine was an OEM problem and there was nothing else that Comcast could do for me.
YET, by changing the server port from Comcast's recommended 587 setting back to 25 (which it had been when I was with Time-Warner), I could then send e-mails!
    Relieved but irritated,

  • Can receive but not send mail while traveling

    Hello:
wondering if there is a solution to this recurring problem. My email address is through my website, via my cable service, and I read it using Mail without a problem. However, when I'm traveling and using internet service other than my home, I can read my mail through Mail - but not send it. When I attempt to mail from the Mail window, it starts to send from my Outbox, and then fails, and delivers the message: "Cannot send using the server smtp [cable service name].net Use the popup menu below to try a different outgoing mail server."
I can successfully send if I log onto my mail on my website, but it's more steps. Is there a solution to this, or is this just the nature of using outside networks?

    Hi BDAqua;
So can I just change the port number in my Mail>Pref>Accounts>Advanced pane, and be able to mail while traveling? Or does that create some kind of conflict with my current mail/cable provider settings? Port is currently set to 110. (It does say "check with your sysadmin before changing any of these settings". Alas.)

  • Can recieve but not send after migrating from MBPro to Mac Pro

Migrated from mbpro to our new Mac Pro yesterday and now i cant send email directly. Was using Rapido SMTP in conjunction with my Entourage. I can recieve email from all of my email accounts but in order to send I must send it from my sprintpcs account. I have tried removing Rapido SMTP and restoring my ISPs SMTP settings but that only nets me a new error. The new error says it could not reach the server and too double check my DNS. Any Ideas?
I am toying with reinstalling Microsoft Entourage 2004 over the existing one to see if something got corrupted in the migration process.
    I am at a lose.

  • Am traveling; can receive but not send Mail

We just came to Peru, and have an apartment here with a wireless connection in it, provided by a cable company. I use Verizon as my server, sending and receiving mail with the Mail program. I've traveled to several countries and have never had any trouble sending or receiving mail. But I can't send mail here, and wonder if I need to put something different in the outgoing mail settings of Mail. Or do you think this has something to do with my having installed Snow Leopard? Don't know much about this, but would appreciate some help.
    Thanks!

have an apartment here with a wireless connection in it, provided by a cable company.
You may want to set your email to send using that company's outgoing mail server - to get the connection info you need, contact them for the details, ask the neighbor next door or the computer shop across the street and/or check on the internet using Google to see what others may have to say about the same situation in your location.
As an example, if the local service provider name is 'PeruISP', you would search Google for:
Peru ISP outgoing email setting (or) Peru ISP sending email
    ....you get the idea.
The point is that Verizon clearly isn't working there for you, so you need to know the correct outgoing email server name etc. before you can get your email going again.
    Good luck in any case.

  • After OS upgrate, my Mail (Version 4.3) can receive -but not send mail !?

I just upgraded my I Mac to OS X 10.6. Everything is working well except my MAIL Version 4.3. I’m able to receive mail and look it up, but cannot send it out.

It's hard to deal with such a thing in a bulletin board environment. The possibility of that didn't occur to me.
Everything is working great now; both incoming & outgoing!
    I'm glad you were successful.
My Apple support person sent me this link to forward to you and the boards: http://www.apple.com/support/macosx/mailassistant/
That could be useful for others in the future. I've bookmarked it.

  • Can recieve but not send emails, although outgoing server settings look ok.

I am able to receive email, but I am not able to send email. I have run the connection doctor - My email connects to the internet; I connect to the incoming mail server, but I am not able to connect to the Outgoing Mail Server.
I have looked at the settings on the outgoing server 'edit server list' and they appear fine. The smtp address is ok, as is the username and password. I have selected 'Use Default Ports 25, 465, 587', as usual. Still it won't connect to the Outgoing Mail Server. It was working fine 24 hours ago, and I haven't changed anything... It now says that both of my outgoing servers are offline, although my colleagues can all send emails from these servers, the problem is only with my laptop.
Any ideas? I have emails that urgently need to be sent.
    Thanks in advance!

I am in an identical boat! Except that in my case it is a result of having re-installed OS10.5.8 (archive install) over 10.6.2 (as the latter was causing more trouble than advantage).
In another thread, procedure for re-set included erasing "com.apple.mail.plist", but I don't have one
The 'network diagnostics' button is greyed out in 'connection doctor'; maybe irrelevent since internet and incoming emails to one of 2 accounts are working. But also Connection Doctor shows doubled-up accounts, probably 1 set originating from connection protocol during OS10.5.4 installation when I was guessing at the settings and the other from editing the preference panes to those I have working fine on my G4 powerbook (not identical as that is in 10.4.11 & Mail 2.1)
