I can see my old (previous) library but it wont import!

I seem to have moved my music the WRONG way to an external Drive ..by copying the artist folders one by one .... of course a new library was created with none of my play lists. When i try to import the "Previous itunes library" its greyed out and wont open. I tried saving the previous library as an xml but it wont work. My music is exactly where and how i want it, but i cant recover my old library with my playlists for the very same music
.. any ideas?

Are you saying that the XML file is greyed out? That's weird, because File->Import is exactly for importing XML library files. And you used File->Export to save the previous library in xml format?

By the way, if you moved your music through the finder you will probably have problem with iTunes not being able to find the files on the new drive. If you still have a copy of your music files on your computer (in the original location, not the ext. drive) you may want to open the old Library and do the following:
1) In the Advanced preferences, change the location of the music folder to the external drive.
2) Check the "Coppy music to iTunes folder" and "keep music folder organized" (at last for this operation)
2) Using the advanced menu, Consolidate your library. With this function, iTunes will copy all your music files to the new drive and will keep track of where all the music files are.

Though it refers to items purchased from the iTunes Store, it applies to all your iTunes content. And if you happen to also own an iPod:

Once you have the tracks on some removable medium, you can mount that on your new computer and then just drag the content to the iTunes window. Make sure that the option to "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" is set in the iTunes -> Advanced -> General preferences before you do. Alternatively, you can use the Add To Library command and select each track (or folder of tracks).
If you won't be using that Windows system once you move the content, don't forget to deauthorize the system from your iTunes Store account before you dispose of the computer.

Can't access iPhoto '08 library but can see pictures

Greetings. I just upgraded from a PPC G5iMac running Tiger to a new iMac Intel running Snow Leopard. I backed up my computer using SuperDuper to an external hard drive. I reinstalled my pics by dragging the photo library to User/Pictures and replaced the iPhoto Library with my older copy of iPhoto '06 I was using. I didn't open iPhoto until I had done this. All the pictures, folders, events, etc are there and I can see them just fine. But I can't copy/paste or send pictures via email. The emails are blank. When I tried to copy/paste the message said that the files could be copied to this clipboard because they may have been deleted. My iPhoto is updated now to the latest version. Repairing the iPhoto Library had no effect. I tried to creat a new library but the iTunes library was grayed out as an option. I have read/write access so don't know what to do next. Thanks in advance!!

Do not import one Library to another. You'll lose all your albums, events, keywords etc and end up with a mess od duplicates and triplicates.
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

Take the following steps:
1) while connected to wifi, toggle off then back on the Show All Music and iTunes Match options shown in my original post. Important: I did this step before, but wasn't connected to wifi, and my music disappeared. Subsequently, I connected to wifi and turned off and then back on those options and everything came back though it was grayed out and my only option was to download music.
2) To get streaming over cellular back, go into Settings>General>Cellular and scroll down to the "Use Cellular Data for:" options and make sure the iTunes option is set to 'On'
The above steps will bring back the streaming capability which seemed to go away when you update to 6.1. It didn't ACTUALLY go away, but something about the update toggled off the iTunes option in step 2 above.
I did a final test by turning off wifi, opening Music app and selecting a song. It played successfully without downloading! Crossing my fingers, but I think I'm good to go!

However I can see the event with the event title, the number of pictures and the pictures itselve as small thumbnails. BUt ounce I want to open the event to see the pictures in full screen the event title annouces 0 pictures and no pictures are visble anymore to mee. I have checked if the pictures are marked as hidden and this is not the case. What's going wrong. All the other events are visible in a normal way.
The albums with the same pictures into them are visible.

Make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.

How can I sync a previous library with a current one?

I got a new computer for Christmas and synched my Apple data with it. I have not synched any new music using my computer for several months now, because I either purchase it from iTunes on my phone or use another music service.
I recently downloaded an album from a third party site (bandcamp.com) and want to add my new Shakey Graves album to my phone. The issue is, for some reason my library is missing several gigs worth of music.
Music that I have on my phone from a previous library, but apparently don't have the files for on my new computer.
Am I able to just add this album onto my phone (or something along those lines) without disturbing my current content on my phone?

Libraries cannot be synced.
The correct way to handle a new computer is to copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old comptuer to the new computer. At this point, the same library exists on both comptuers and the user simply starts using the new computer and library. The old computer can then be wiped or disposed of.
Syncing to the new computer at this point will remove all content from the device and replace it with content from the new computer/library.

You really should run check for updates. It's up to 9.1.3 now.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Problem with iTunes. I have Windows 8 on a new laptop. Installed latest version of iTunes. Can play music in My Library but when I click on Itunes Store I get the message "iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

I'm having a similar problem, but I do have the key and is not working anyway.
My old pc was running on windows 7 and my new one is an apple running on Lion.
My phone is an Iphone IV and I can see all the bookmarks there.
In order to sync, what I did was click on the "I don't have the device with me", I entered the key that was provided and the process finish ok. It says congratulations, etc, etc.
But the bookmarks are not there, I tried merging data and replacing data on this computer options but is the same.
Any suggestions?

Without providing details on exactly what you did it is hard to provide an answer. It's like me saying, "This chocolate cake I made tastes wrong," but not providing the recipe for review. Maybe it was the garlic in that particular recipe.
If iTunes is successfully using a previous library which you rename to iTunes Library.itl then that is now the current library.
Have you restarted your computer and then tried emptying the trash?

First, what is the formatting of the external hard drive? It should be OS X Extended (journaled). You can determine it by selecting the EHD and typing Command + i.

If it isn't formatted to that you should move the library off of it and reformat.
The "!" is an indication that the file path to the original file has been broken So make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

New computer has been loaded with old Itunes library but a number of earlier purchases say they are not "authorized" on this computer even though the bulk of my library works-- this is only about 5% of the total but were all purchased 9/18/2008 or before?

Two words, Migration Assistant. It will transfer files between two Macs using a firewire cable automagically.

Three words, Target Disk Mode. Use a firewire cable to connect two Macs and then hold down the T key when you boot the Mac you want to transfer files from, G4 Tower. It will appear as a hard drive on the desktop of your Macbook Pro. Then you can just drag and drop the whole folder.

Disconnect other USB devices from your computer and connect iPad to a different USB 2.0 port on your computer (not on your keyboard).
Turn iPad off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPad for a few seconds, until a red slider appears. Then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Restart your computer. Then reconnect iPad to your computer.
Download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTune
