I can see my windows network, but my Mac Air can't

I recently set up my iMac to use the printer attached to my Windows-networked PC. I couldn't even do that until I set my Windows network as a Workgroup, but when I did, the iMac immediately saw it and I was able to connect the connected printer. I was hopeful that I could do the same with my wife's and my Mac Airs, but such was not the case. Neither Mac Air can see the Windows Workgroup (from the same geophysical location as the iMac). What else need I do to enable the Mac Airs to see the network?

Fred,
I don't even know what a subnet is! All the referenced computers are connected wirelessly. The only hardwire connection is between the Windows PC and the printer. I'll confirm this later, but I am pretty sure it is entirely accurate.

Mac Pro 10.6.4 - I can SEE the Windows network, but I can't connect!

So I have a brand new Mac Pro dual 6-core machine in the design department of our company, and it's sweet. However, this is one of two Macs on an all-Windows network, and we're newly having some trouble.
Until recently, I could (on our iMac running 10.6) see and connect to our network with no trouble, sign in to my personal folder, etc. Now, however, the IT guys just updated the servers (and I don't know the configuration, or even what specs are critical to know), and while I can still SEE all the network drives, I can't connect to them, no matter what I try. I've tried different workgroups (which show up in my WINS Network preferences), I've tried adding search domains, I've tried using Connect To Server... with smb:// addresses and also browsing through the drives and connecting that way... I'm always told either that there was an error connecting, the server/share doesn't exist, that my login credentials are wrong, etc.
I know that I am using my proper username and login for the servers, I know that the names of the shares I'm trying to access are correct... but something is amiss here and I have no idea what it is. Is there something that needs to be done on the network side of things that I don't know about? (I'm sure more info about the network setup would help in this regard). Is there anyone who is dealing with this same issue?
Please help me with the benefit of your experience and knowledge... we need to get our Macs up and running... or we'll be stuck on Windows machines forever!

mh, that's really hard to solve because it's probably something the IT guys did with the network.
only a few hints:
if connecting via "connect to server", try to use IPs and not computer names, so smb://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx instead of smb://server1. also, don't add the name of the share directly to the adress. just type the IP and you will see all available shares.
secondly, mac OS seems unable to connect if the user on the other computer does not have a password. I suppose your users do have passwords, but just to be safe.
other than that I can only imagine it being a problem on the windows side, blocking the mac or something. macs don't always see PCs in their network automatically, but the "connect to server" approach never failed on me. of course I'm only in a small home network

Your wifi network is not working. Restart it. Delete your wifi settings for this network via System Preferences, Network, WiFi, Advanced. Reconfigure and try again.

The ps3 problem tends to indicate a router problem. Have you powered off and then back on your router?

- a reset:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Tiger not seeing a Windows network

I cannot see our Windows network in my finder. I also am unable to connect thru the smb. I've researched for weeks online, also went to the genius bar and they could not help me. I paid so much for the AppleCare, there HAS to be a way to get help with this, but I can't find any online. I thought from what I read that OSX with Tiger can see any network connected. I am plugged in via ethernet. What to do?

Without more information about your network setup, answering your question may not be possible with one response, but a little troubleshooting should help.
Can your Mac see anything at all on the network (a printer or another Mac?) or access the Internet? What IP address does your Mac have on the network? Is it something like 192.168.xxx.xxx or more like 169.254.xxx.xxx? If it's like the latter, then your Mac is not seeing your network.
If you open the Directory Access application found inside the /Applications/Utilities folder, do you have SMB enabled?
Mac OS X can see a few types of networks but not all types of networks. It should, however, see a Windows network if it is properly configured.

Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

Yes, I've that and it didn't work. Today, I reinstalled printer software on one printer and the "paused" message changed to "offline". It's a three-in-one printer. I turned off and on again and it still says "offline"

[SOLVED] Can't see my windows network anymore

I just updated my Arch 64 machine today (hadn't updated since last friday). I saw that the new kernel 2.6.38 was in core now etc. The update went fine but now in Dolphin I can't see my windows shares anymore. I complains about the firewall, so I turned it off but still it does see anything. Anybody else having issues with smb since the last few days of updates?

I can't really see anything that could cause an issue other than the kernel.

My 13in Macbook Pro can't see a wireless network but my friends Macbook Pro can

Me and my friend both have identical 13 in Macbook Pro's except he has 250 gb and I have 350gb. Everything else is the same even the wireless card. The problem is, he can see and connect to a unsecured wireless network but i can't. Why is this ?
Our computers can see the same networks on the list but my Macbook does not see one network, the unsecured network !!!

I never said there wasn't an issue, just that blame could not be assigned based on what we know now and that there are many more people not having problems with Leopard and WiFi than those that are.
In my circle of associates I know of literally hundreds of Mac owners, of which approximately three are having WiFi issues.
I know how frustrating it is to be one of those afflicted - my stories of constant WiFi drops for the first six months I owned my MBP have been recounted in several threads.
But it's just as frustrating to read how Leopard is just plain broken when in fact I've not seen a single WiFi drop in Tiger or Leopard since February 2007.
This is also why I've continually urged people experiencing the problem to open an AppleCare case - it's only then that Apple Engineering can find the commonalities in cases where WiFi is failing and either fix their driver or notify the router manufacturer of their bug.
Are there bugs with AirPort in Leopard? Of course, and I even know of one that affects me on occasion that's known, and that's a failure to reassociate with a known network when waking from sleep. The workaround is simple - toggle AirPort off and back on - but it's a known issue nevertheless.
But each of these threads addresses an individual problem, and among the numbers of people experiencing difficulties, few report that their Mac sees no wireless networks, and that's what the advice I've given in this thread is geared towards.

I've begun using a new ISP a few days ago, and while my desktop pc works just fine (ethernet), I seemed not to be able to connect to internet with my mac (either ethernet or wifi) even if I could see the wireless network. I thought it was an issue with the ISP and not with my mac, until last night when I tested it at a friend's house and bling..I couldn't connect there either!
All seetings seem fine both for ethernet and airport. Today I've verified and repaired disk and permissions. I've also created a location specifically for this network (while I've always used automatic before) since the ISP suggested to do so.
I've been able to use the internet, both wifi and ethernet, until literally two days ago on all sorts of different wifi networks.
Any ideas folks?

Hi! It's been a while but here's the latest update on the case.
(And yeah,I've been struggling until today to find a solution...Danny's personal advice: don't move to Italy if you don't wanna get lost in a Customer Service nightmare...)
Anyhow, it turned out to be as simple as this:
1) Create a location dedicated to the home network.
2) Insert PPPoE user name and password given by ISP.
3) Connect.
4) Browse wirelessly.
...I feel a little dumb overlooking this option....but, I still have some doubts reg the procedure.
Why did I have to create a dedicated location?
Why do I have to use PPPoE rather than DHCP?

See list of networks, but no connection

Recently, I have been having a strange problem with my iMac and airport network. It tells me tht I am connected to my network, but I'm not...no internet/email, etc.
When I open the Airport Admin Utility, no base stations are present, even when I scan. I threw out my preferences, I soft-reset the base station....nothing.
Any advice, please?!?

I would hard reset your base station and re-configure from scratch.

Meta Trader 4 is Windows only - Office is available for the Mac and Windows and are mostly compatible but given that you'll be doing online trading you may prefer the Windows version of Excel since there are financial spreadsheets with macros that only run on the Mac with some significant editing.
You can install Windows 7 or 8 in BootCamp or any version of Windows usting virtualization. VMWare and Parallels are commercial programs and VirtualBox is open source. VB may be all you need. Whatever solution you choose, you'll need a commercial version of Windows (or get an OEM disc from NewEgg).

My HP 5510 Photosmart B111a printer prints from PCs on the network but not Macs

My HP Photosmart 5510 is seen by laptops on the same wireless router network, but iPhones, iPads, etc. do not see it on the network. The PC prints but the Macs won't. The network does allow those Macs to access the internet.

Any iOS device uses Apple's Bonjour to communicate with the device.
Bonjour relies on DNS Multicasting to communicate with the device.
By your description it seems more likely as your router do not support multicasting or not configured propertly,
Please calrify your router brand and model in order to better understand the problem.
