I can see the songs but they wont play

An error message comes up saying - The song could not be found because the original file could not be found.
This message even comes up on purchased songs.
I am trying to also register my new nano 3rd gen that I bought from the US and it wont let me register it on my Itunes ID because it wont let me changes countries from the US to the UK. Could this be the problem?

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

My project in imovie says source unavailable after I moved the events to the backup drive. It is connected and shows up in the events library. I can see the pictures but they won't play without the source. What do I do.

I moved it because I did not have room on my hard drive to import my latest video. I take videos my grandkids basketball games then edit them as projects. I don't have room to move the whole events library back to my hard drive. Can I move part of it at a time.
I filled up my 1 TB back up drive so got a 3TB to move my video projects to. Do I have to move both the i photo videos and the projects to the 3 TB drive together some how. When can I delete them off the hard drive .
I moved all the i photo library to the 3 TB drive and deleted them out of i photo. That is 87 GB which I don't have room for on my hard drive.
I think when I use the export movie to my hard drive it works but will I still be able to edit it later if I want. Is it best to do quick time or i tunes if I use the export feature.

  • Can import cd's but they wont play properly

Ive bought myself an ipod nano for christmas and its all wrapped up under the tree but i decided to get a head start with importing songs from my cd's.
When i import songs from a cd and go to play them on my computer, or even if the songs start playing while im importing, it only plays the first second of the song over and over again. At the top, where it shows the progress of the song, itunes is counting down the minutes of the song normally and yet i still only hear the first second of the song over and over again. Ive looked in the help section and tried everything. The songs are imported using the AAC encoder.
When i first downloaded itunes and did my first import, the songs played fine, then my computer reset itself which it does frequently, and its only ever since then that they wont play properly and i dont know why because i didnt change any of the settings. Ive since fiddled around with the different options and nothing has worked.

    No.
The songs played fine until the computer reset itself. Ever since then, that's when they will only play the first second of the song over and over again.
I deleted the songs and tried to import them again but that didnt help. I've tried to import songs from other cd's and the same thing happens.
Even if I just try to play a cd using itunes, same thing happens, first second of each song over and over again.
My cd's play fine on windows media player. Its really starting to frustrate me!

  • Can't see the songs, but they are still taking up the space

I know that this topic has been address before but I have searched and searched and found no results.
I have a 30gig ipod (I believe a 3rd gen) that, all of a sudden, does not read any of my songs. It's like when I turned on the ipod for the first time. However, when I checked the "about this ipod" in the settings, it still reads that about 27gigs are being used up. The same amount that all my songs took up.
Now, my problem is that I have change computers and I don't have many of the songs anymore on this new one. I'm using a mac and I want to know if there is anything that I might be able to do to restore these songs. If not, is there any way I can at least see what songs I had on there so I can go about finding them again?
    Thanks ahead of time.

    Brettaf,
Try one or more of the recovery processes below. They may help.
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=394618&messageID=1263275

    Hi MrMilkCarton,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  I would recommend trying all the steps in the relevant iPod nano troubleshooting assistant, all of which can be found here:

You have posted to the iTunes Match forum, which your question does not seem to be related to. Is your question concerning iTunes Match or syncing with iTunes via USB?

  • I synced ipod to itunes (windows), it removed all my single purchased songs. I can see the songs in itunes, but they are gray

I synced ipod to itunes (windows), itunes removed all my single purchased songs from my iphone. I can see the songs in itunes, but they are gray and I can't move them back to my iphone or to any other device.  I can't play them on the computer in itunes, I can't move them back to my iphone (where original purchase was made), and I can't move them into another ipod.

I had the Itunes store do this to one song out of three I downloaded. I went back to the Itunes store and reclicked on the song to download it again. It ran the download again and got the complete song this second time. Then I just resynced with my Itunes and all is fixed.

  • Downloaded songs from itunes, see them in my playlist but they wont play

Had the same issue with my last 3 song downloads from iTunes. I can see the song in my playlist, but it wont play? I have been using iTues/iPods/iPads for 7 years and have never had this issue. Can someone help me?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the tracks and try redownloading fresh copies.
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

  • Me or my pc can't see my songs, but they are still on my Ipod.

Me or my pc can't see my songs, but they are still on my Ipod.
I've connected my Ipod to my pc, and suddenly there were no songs left, but when I checked it, was the memory still full, like before.
I've disconnected my Ipod and suddenly there were also no songs on my Ipod aswell.
    please help me!!

"There should be a solution I think"
Yes, to restore the iPod and reload the songs with whatever program you use to put songs on the iPod.
How do you manage to use iPod Agent to transfer songs to the iPod since this is what it says in the iPod Agent FAQ?
"iPod Agent is not a music manager. It does not provide the ability to organize your music and transfer it to your iPod. Apple's own iTunes does a great job of this and thus we don't see a reason to try to duplicate it's functionality. iPod Agent is meant to work hand-in-hand with iTunes."
If you don't use iTunes, what "library" do you use?

  • HT1848 I can see the songs that I purchased and it says downloaded but the songs can't be located on ITunes on my desktop.

My hard drive crashed and I moved my I Tunes library back from Carbonite but there are songs / albums that are missing!  Lots of Exclamation points!
Anyway, I can see the songs and albums on my purchased list in the ITunes store page.  They all say they are "downloaded" but ITunes on my computer can't find the songs.
I looked on my hard drive and the are not on the hard drive.  How can I Re-Download to put these purchased songs back on my new hard drive?  The songs are on my I Phone but I don't want to sync since it will strip them out of my phone too.
    Thanks!

Try authorizing the computer. Launch iTunes. From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Authorize This Computer
