Hi MrMilkCarton,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  I would recommend trying all the steps in the relevant iPod nano troubleshooting assistant, all of which can be found here:

  • My ipdo is charged and I can select a song but I press play the music doe snot play

My ipod 5th generation is charged and loaded with music.  When I press play the musci does not play and the counter does not work.

If you haven't already, try a hard reset of the device. To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, a restore of the device in iTunes may be necessary.

Does this only happen with particular tracks or just about any track you try to play?

  • I can see the songs but they wont play

An error message comes up saying - The song could not be found because the original file could not be found.
This message even comes up on purchased songs.
I am trying to also register my new nano 3rd gen that I bought from the US and it wont let me register it on my Itunes ID because it wont let me changes countries from the US to the UK. Could this be the problem?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Ipod downloaded song, but ipod wont play it

Please help, i downloaded songs on to my daughters ipod, but now they wont play. Other songs downloaded will play, but not the few she really loves. I also noticed that the
album covers dont match the song on the screen.... can anyone help me???

I would try and reset your daughters iPod (http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/). If that doesn't work, then you might want to use the Restore function in iTunes. Also, you will want to make sure you are using the newest version of iTunes. To check to see if you have the newest version, click Help in iTunes, then scroll down to 'Check For Updates'. If you have already tried all of these, or are not having any luck, please reply back to this post. Good luck

  • I torrented new songs but itunes wont play them how do i make them work?

i torrented new music and itunes wont play them saying the files cannot be found the files are still on the computer and i can find them just find but itunes cant. how do i make itunes recognize, find and play my new music?

I don't think it's your iPod. I reckon it's something to do with the tracks themselves. I've been searching through similar posts and have tried the following suggestions (without any luck):
    - swap you iPod cable to another USB port and re-sync
    - whilst the iPod is connected, deauthorise your computer in iTunes and then authorise it
    - re-created my iTunes library (as your iPod can only sync with one library, it will wipe clean your iPod and re-sync it) - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
    - have even restored my iPod
and still the 3 tracks will not play. However, I have subsequently downloaded another track (different album and artist) and that plays just fine. I have since contacted customer services about this and they have been very quick to respond, but unfortunately the re-download solution they proposed hasn't worked either so they have escalated the problem internally.
One thing I have tried (and I think it's legit??), is to burn the tracks to a CD. Remove the originals from your iTunes library to another folder. Re-import the tracks back into iTunes and re-sync. I've tried this and the tracks will now play on my iPod. I believe the above process strips off the DRM, so maybe the problem lies with the DRM encoding and your iPod believes you don't have permission to play the tracks when in fact you do. If you don't feel comfortable about doing this, I would contact customer services.

  • Can import cd's but they wont play properly

Ive bought myself an ipod nano for christmas and its all wrapped up under the tree but i decided to get a head start with importing songs from my cd's.
When i import songs from a cd and go to play them on my computer, or even if the songs start playing while im importing, it only plays the first second of the song over and over again. At the top, where it shows the progress of the song, itunes is counting down the minutes of the song normally and yet i still only hear the first second of the song over and over again. Ive looked in the help section and tried everything. The songs are imported using the AAC encoder.
When i first downloaded itunes and did my first import, the songs played fine, then my computer reset itself which it does frequently, and its only ever since then that they wont play properly and i dont know why because i didnt change any of the settings. Ive since fiddled around with the different options and nothing has worked.

    No.
The songs played fine until the computer reset itself. Ever since then, that's when they will only play the first second of the song over and over again.
I deleted the songs and tried to import them again but that didnt help. I've tried to import songs from other cd's and the same thing happens.
Even if I just try to play a cd using itunes, same thing happens, first second of each song over and over again.
My cd's play fine on windows media player. Its really starting to frustrate me!

  • HT1725 I bought a song off of the itunes store on my iphone but it wont play.  I even tried to repurchase it but it says that I already purchased it.  I have restarted my phone and turned it off but it still won't download or play.  HELP!

I bought a song off of the itunes store on my iphone but it wont play.  I even tried to repurchase it but it says that I already purchased it.  I have restarted my phone and turned it off but it still won't download or play.  HELP!

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from your phone and re-download it via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on it, or the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work (it's been taking some people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

  • Downloaded songs from itunes, see them in my playlist but they wont play

Had the same issue with my last 3 song downloads from iTunes. I can see the song in my playlist, but it wont play? I have been using iTues/iPods/iPads for 7 years and have never had this issue. Can someone help me?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the tracks and try redownloading fresh copies.
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

You might want a more Mac-centric version of that post which is directed more at Windows users.
iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

we have a movie downloaded on a laptop connected to the internet pluged into our router in the basement and an apple tv upstairs trying to play the movie through home sharing but it wont play. can anyone tell me whats wrong? it comes to the last loading page where it shows the desscription of the movie befor it acually plays.

It can come about without any change done by the user, and it's not just from other networks. The placement of the router can also affect performance. Also make sure router is up to date.
Apart from that would be the reboots.
