I can't access iPhoto inspite of the icon being displayed in the Applications folder

I cannot access iPhoto any more. When I try to open the application nothing happens.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

  • Can I access iphoto from windows

I have a imac 27" (2011) running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4.  I have installed Parallel and running windows 7 because the photo program I use (Paint shop pro) doesn't come in mac format.  Can I access iphoto photos from the windows side without having to have them loaded in a directory in windows as well.

You may be a better man then I am, Gunga Dinn!
So far all of my attempts at keeping systems in sync have ended up in dismal failures.
My suggestion is to settle on one platform. It will make things easier in the long run.
After reading reviews on Pain Shop Pro, I don't find it anything to get excited about at all.
I think rather then using iPhoto on the Mac, you should really look at Aperture. It is far more powerful that iPhoto at editing photos plus it provided DAM capablitities also. To me it appears to be a more powerful tool then  Paint Shop Pro also.

How can i access iphoto to apple tv with iphone?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you mean iPhoto on your phone use AirPlay if your phone supports mirroring, if you mean iPhoto on your computer, you can't do it from your phone.

  • I can't access iPhoto because of this message (sorry, it is in French) : "Votre bibliothèque est utilisée par une autre application ou est devenue illisible"

Here is messaqge : "I can't access iPhoto because of this message (sorry, it is in French) : "Votre bibliothèque est utilisée par une autre application ou est devenue illisible"".
    I am on a iMac 27"with OS X Lion.
The problem appeared while I was doing an import from an USB hard disk and an electric shutdown happened... The iMac and everything started well after but ipohoto.

OK, when you find the solution please post it, it may help others in the future. BTW there are some other simple resets you can do, first is restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possibe one has become corrupt. Next would be to do SMC and PRAM resets, the instructions for both are:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • I can't access iPhoto following my upgrade to yosemite

i can't access iPhoto following my upgrade to yosemite

The first thing to do:  Make a backup of your iPhoto Library. Don't update iPhoto without having a backup of your iPhoto library.
When I tried I received the following message This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
This error message means, that you did not yet associate your copy of iPhoto (preinstalled on your Mac) with your AppleID by clicking the "accept" button at AppStore "Purchased" page.
First try to "Accept" iPhoto on the Purchased tab and try, if you then can update iphoto from the Updates tab.
Now check the "Purchased" tab. Is iPhoto among your Purchases to "Accept" or "Install"? Then accept and/or install.
If it is not possible, delete iPhoto from the Applications folder .
    (don't empty the Trash).
If it is not among your Purchases, open the AppStore main tab, search for iPhoto using the Search field, and buy it from the AppStore. If you already owned any version of iPhoto '11, this purchase should be free, from earlier versions it may be a paid upgrade.
If all fails there is no help but contacting the App Store Support to sort out the AppleID. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

  • Purchased iMac used. can't access iPhoto since OS X 10.9.2 update

I purchased my iMac used in 2011.  I had alot of software already installed.  I've never had any problems until now.  I recently updated my iMac w/ the latest OS X Maverick 10.9.2 & since then it will not let me access iPhoto bc (You can't use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X, You have iPhoto 9.2).  It says I need to upgrade but when I try to it doesn't recognize my apple id/password bc it was purchased originally by someone else.  It does not give me the option to purchase, only upgrade.  Does anyone know how I can get around this?

I cannot open the iPhoto app to backup my files.  I'm afraid to just delete it.
You do not need iPhoto to backup your photos. Your photos are in the iPhoto library and not in the application. If you do not yet have a backup of your iPhoto library, open your Pictures folder and copy the iPhoto Library (the package with the "fan of pictures" icon) to an external drive. Do that first, just in case. It is safer to have a backup copy of the data before updating any application.
If I delete the app, will I lose all my pictures?
Deleting the iPhoto application from the Applications folder will not delete the iPhoto library with your photos. Just delete it from the Applications folder and than sign into the App Store with your AppleID and purchase the current iPhoto version.

  • I can't access iPhoto on my Macbook Air. Can anyone help?

It may be because my start up disc is full. But I can't access iPhoto to delete photos! When I try to update iPhoto (in case that's the problem) I get the following message :
"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled".
I don't understand this as I bought the Macbook. But either way I need to fix it. Can anyone help?

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
As for your iPhoto issue it would appear that the version you now have was purchased using a different Apple ID than the one you are now using, so you will need to purchase the current version using the Apple ID you are now using. This happens often when you have purchased the computer from a previous owner.

  • HT1199 Can't access iphoto on my MacBook Air

I can't access iphoto on my MacBook Air.  I went to move photos to make more room on my disk (kept getting message that disk was almost full) and it won't bring up any photos.  What do I do now?

Hold the Option or alt key when starting iPhoto.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when you try to start it.

  • Just updated to Yosemite v 10.10 and can't access iPhoto

Just updated to Yosemite v. 10.10 and can't access iPhoto.  How do I upgrade my iPhoto?

I'm having the same problem. Just installed 10.10 and couldn't get iPhoto to load. I went to the iPhoto library upgrade installer and downloaded it but it gives me a never ending multicolored pinwheel when I designate the location as my hard drive. When I load the upgrade anyway it says successful but then I get an error message that the iPhoto version that I have is too old.  When I go to the app store I find that there is no way to load any newer version. Please help.
