    "can't access" ??
By what method are you trying to access these photos? What module of Lightroom are you in when you try this? What exact steps in Lightroom are you using ... please use the Lightroom name of the steps, as technically there is no step called "access", so I honestly have no idea what the step is that you are trying. • Can't access my DLink DNS-313 after OS X lion upgrade

    Hi,
After I upgraded to OS X Lion, I can't access my files in a DNS-313 external drive. I can see the folders having a no entry sign that when I click on any of them my Mac prompts me that I don't have permission to open the files. It worked before in OS X Snow Leopard. Any idea? Thanks for the help in advance.

Same situation here... but I think it's not an Apple Issue.
I found a problem really similar to this in 2008 with the DNS-313 and the old Leopard O.S.
Have a look at this thread (in this thread I am "tourniquet"):
    http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-554245.html
The problem was really similar because with the finder you couldn't navigate but with the terminal (or with muCommander) you had no problem!
As you can see, the problem was that the Finder couldn't manage the "Unix Extensions" option, set to ON in the Samba Server on the DNS-313 (we had the firmware 1.0 then).
D-Link solved the issue later, with a firmware upgrade that disabled this "Unix Extensions" option so... couldn't it be possible that now Lion require this option to be set to ON again?!?!
I will try this evening (10 hours from now, I'm Italian) enabling the unix extensions on the Samba Server of the DNS-313 (gaining an access to the 313 by telnet) and I will let you know if I sort this issue out.
    Greetings

  • Can no longer connect to SMB server after upgrading to Lion

We have a MacBook Pro that was running 10.6.8. The user upgraded to Lion, and can no longer connect to a Windows 2008 file server. (We have two offices connected through a hardware tunnel, but i do not think this is the issue.)
We have tried to connect in the Finder (smb://[email protected]/). It asks for usr / pass, and then just hangs on "Connecting to server"
We can ping, have tested these credentials on other computers, and tried other credentials on this computer, to no avail. Furthermore, we installed a fresh copy of Lion on another computer, and successfully connected, so I don't think the issue is with Lion itself.
There must be something from the previous install that did not "upgrade" properly, but I don't know which file / setting it could be. It is system-wide setting, as we have also tried another user account on this same Mac.
We've also run Onyx to fix permissions, clean out all caches, etc.
Any idea what file i can change, modify, or delete?
Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

Yes, but the issue is not with Lion directly; there seems to be something with the upgraded system, perhaps a legacy setting or pref... I've scoured the system to no avail. I'm actually about to reinstall 10.6 - wasted too much time on this issue.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Can't open appleworks6 documents in pages09 after upgrade to lion

i upgraded to lion a few weeks ago and today tried to access an appleworks 6 .cwk word processing document in pages 09 and it returns an error saying it can not be opened because it is  not a word processing document.
i have gone into 'get info' to set pages as the default application to open the document with no luck.  i am absolutely sure it is an appleworks 6.2.9 word processing document.  my pages application is up to date.
all of our older business contracts and word processing documents are appleworks 6  files.  any ideas why pages won't open the document?  everything i have read indicates that pages should have no problem opening the file.  our spreadsheet files open fine with numbers.
    any ideas?
    thanks.

The fact that Lion no longer support AppleWorks is publicized since more than six months.
Serious users took time to convert their documents before switching to the new operating system.
If Pages doesn't open the documents I'm quite sure that they aren't AppleWorks 6 WP documents.

  • Can't install snow leopard on partition after upgrading to lion

I rushed out too early to install Lion via Apple Apps store.  Now, I realize that Rosetta is gone and so are my options to use older apps.  As I was reading on the web and Apple Support, I have tried various things and get a window saying that I can't install snow leopard.
I have never partition my hard drive, but using disk utility I created a partition called "Snow Leopard."  It divided my HD in half which is okay.  I closed the disk utility window, rebooted holding down the "C" key, and saw the OS X Install DVD.  When I select it a window pops up saying, "You can't use this version of the appl inst Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X.  You have installed Mac OS X 23.1.1."
Before downloading lion, I made a backup of my existing HD using Time Machine to an external HD.  When I open up a saved version dated a month ago, I see that the applications that were working in snow leopard now have the icon circle saying that it is not supported by lion.  This is strange since I used Time Machine to back up my HD, then turned off the app before downloading lion.  Even older versions saved on the external HD show the circle.
I read about lion and the "Recovery HD," but when I hold down the Command-R key nothing happens when I restart my computer.  It also talks about using the option key but that does not work.  It talks about reinstalling lion using this system, but I don't see it working.
How can I install snow leopard on my new partition, then I would go to "Software Updates," to get the latest version, or use one of the versions on my external HD to have both operating system.
    Thanks,
    DaisyMay

    Hi Scottiemn,
As I was trying different things to make a partition on my HD, I made notes as to what I did, and I finally got it to work.  I will try to explain what I did.
Before installing “Lion,” I backed up Snow Leopard using Time Machine to my external Seagate HD.  I installed “Lion,” and found out that I could not use some of my old apps, so I did the following.
Since I am running “Lion,” I opened up disk utility and selected my MacHD (1TB), then I selected partition, and it showed “Macintosh HD” under the partition information name.  I believe I selected the plus, + and it divided my HD space in half, and I named it Snow Leopard.
I then installed the Snow Leopard DVD, and restarted my computer holding down the “C” key, I held it down for about 30 seconds or more and then took my finger off of the key.  As I waited I finally saw that I was on the install DVD, and on the top menu bar I saw “Utilities.”  I had my external Seagate HD mounted on my desk top before I restarted my computer, I selected the “Utilities,” on the menu bar and it gave me the option to back up from Time Machine, I selected my external Seagate HD to the newly created partition I named Snow Leopard and I said “Yes.”  I followed the instructions and after it was done, I went to the menu bar and selected System Preferences, System, Startup Disk, and selected to start up with Snow Leopard.  On my desktop, I can see two Hard Drives, one is Macintosh HD with “Lion,” and the other is Snow Leopard.
Then, I started up my computer and I was on the Snow Leopard partition and I saw all of my apps working.  I then went back to the menu bar and selected System Preferences, System, Startup Disk, and selected to start up with “Lion,” and restarted my computer and I was running “Lion.”
I am not sure why I was not able to use the DVD of SL before, but somehow I got it to work, and I hope that I have explained what I did above.
One thing, when I installed “Lion,” from the app store, I did not make a bootable DVD of the application.  I went back to the app store and downloaded “Lion” again and kept it in the dock until I got Snow Leopard to work.  I burned a DVD of “Lion,” and so I have a backup of it.
Since my Seagate HD has only 250 GB of space and it is an EIDE HD 7,200 rpm using an OWC Mercury Elite FW400/USB2 with the Oxford chipset 911 enclosure which I bought in 2008, I decided that since I now have my 27 inch iMac quad core i5 with 1TB that I needed a larger hard drive.
I researched the web and decided to go back to OWC and just bought a 2.0TB OWC Mercury Elite Pro “Quad Interface” 64MB with eSATA/FW800/FW400/USB2.0 with 7,200 rpm speed for $219.00.  I partitioned it for Time Machine, and Carbon Copy Cloner.
I ran Time Machine, and both partitions “Lion, and Snow Leopard” are on the Time Machine partition and both HD’s are under the Carbon Copy Cloner.
I am self taught on my many iMac’s over the years, and I go to the forums to ask questions and follow the helpful hints to resolve my problems.  I carefully try different things and write down what I did so I don’t repeat things.
I hope that I have explained what I did, and hopefully it will work for you.
When I want to run SL, I select in the System Preferences to start up from that disk, when I want to run Lion, I go back and select that and start up my computer running Lion.
Since I have many old apps that Rosetta uses to open them up in SL I wanted to keep that operating system.  I will go back now that I have everything working and see if I really need them.  I won’t rush to remove my SL partition that I created, but in time if I don’t need the older apps then I may clean out my system and just run Lion.
I run Lion now all of the time, but when I need to go back to SL, I now have the option.
    Good Luck,
    DaisyMay

  • Can't Mount Windows Partition in OSX After Upgrading to 10.5 and BC 2.0

I just installed Leopard today, using the upgrade option (as opposed to a clean install). I was happy to see that I could boot into Windows still, and installed all of the Boot Camp 2.0 drivers while booted into Vista. However, I can no longer mount my Windows partition in OSX. While using Tiger, I did use MacFuse and ntfs-3g to get read-write support, but in Leopard, I can't even read. When I try to mount the Windows volume in Disk Utility, I get an error stating that it cannot be mounted. I also do not have the option to perform "First Aid" or "Repair" on the volume.
I realize that the latest version of ntfs-3g isn't proven to work with Leopard, but I would at least like read access in OSX. Is it possible that some settings were left over from my Tiger configuration that would not allow Leopard to mount the partition? Any ideas?
    Thank you.

Ok. I'm in the club with the same problem...
    Strange things:
    * For the first days after Leopard's install, my BootCamp disk0s3 partition (I'll name it "BillGates") was mounted correctly. Then, after a few days (but BEFORE upgrading to 10.5.1), it disappeared.
    * If I launch DiskUtility "BillGates" is shown, but (in the right device navigation bar) it's named "-n BillGates". If I click the Erase menu, it's named "-nBillGates" (without the space between "-n" and "BillGates"). If I launch SystemProfiler it's named "-n BillGates", but the mount point is "/Volumes/billgates". Can't understand where this "-n" thing is coming from!
    * If I try to mount "-n BillGates" from DiskUtility it doesn't work and the log says "Mount of -n BillGates failed".
    * In the FSTAB there were no instructions: it was empty.
Now, I tried the MacFUSE-solution: no results (meaning BillGates was not mounted on startup).
I tried the modify-the-FSTAB-solution: no results (with "BillGates", "-n BillGates" nor "-nBillGates".
I tried the chkdsk-solution: all tests were ok, but nothing happened.
The only trick that worked was mounting the partition with Terminal's commands (thanks rtracy!!). It made appear "BillGates" on the desktop (without the "-n thing", that is still present in DiskUtility).
Problem is at the first reboot, the Boot Camp partition disappears again. Any ideas for a permanent fix?!
    Giangiacomo.
ADDENDUM: I've tried to move a file from desktop to an unlocked folder in BillGates and System did not copy them. "The item could not be moved because "BillGates" cannot be modified" !!!!!!!!

  • Can't access itunes store with itunes 10/Win7 64bit. Please help.

When I attempt to access the itunes store from iTunes 10.4.1.10 (64-bit) the "one moment please. Connecting to the Itunes store..." dialog box seems to sit there forever before coming back with the following error message “We could not complete your ITunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-50). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.” I’ve tried many times and have also tried uninstalling all Apple software and reinstalling. I've also tried using a differnet windows user logon. I’m running win7 (64 bit). I’ve used WMP in the past and would really like to try iTunes. Any help would be appreciated.

While I don't know for sure, my guess is there is a version of iTunes that you computer CAN use and will work with iTunes.
you may try to manually download the latest version of iTunes 8, or an early version of iTunes 9.  Should be on Apple's site somewhere.
