i can't activate my 3GS phone, any solution

I have tried last 4 hours and also I went to TESCO from where I brought as a contact but they disappointted me! They said to go to apple store I live in Edinburgh in Scotland and ther is no any Apple store in Edinburgh!!!! In addition, my laptop when I am trying to activate itune into iphone from itune reply come in " there is no any simcard in your iphone" Even though, there is a contact sim for two years inside the i phone!
