I can't add buttons at DVD Studio Pro.

The function to create buttons at DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 is not working.
I already used this function but now it stopped working. I reinstalled Final Cut Studio 2, but nothing changed.
Can anybody help me??

Here are some steps to take to see if something is wrong with your DVD SP:
1. Launch DVD SP. A new project will open with one menu and one track.
2. Double-click the menu icon in the graphical display at the left of the screen. The menu will open in the Viewer with its default name: "Menu 1" at the top of the viewer. The Active tab at the top of the viewer should be: "Menu". Of course, with no background image the menu will be black.
3. With the mouse pointer over the black menu in the Viewer, press and hold down the mouse button and drag.
4. You should see a rectangle with little circles appear. When it is the size of a postage stamp release the mouse button.
5. On your right, in the Inspector, you should see the default name of the button: "Button 1".
Do you get this on your system?

Livetype titles as buttons for DVD Studio Pro 4

made a title in Live Type that I want to use a button in DVD Studio Pro 4. Is there a tutorial, or can anyone tell me exactly what I have to do to import it and make it a button in DVDSP 4? When I try to import it and drop it on a menu, the button is small but the surrounding button box is big. When I try and make the letters bigger, the button box gets bigger as well.
All I want is to make just the letters bigger and not the whole surrounding box.

That's not funny.
No one posted because you can easily find the answer yourself in the DVDSP manual. Creating buttons for DVD menus is a complex operation if you want it to be. LiveType by itself is not appropriate for the task. LT will create some embelishments and animated fluff that you can use to augment the buttons you make in DVDSP. Scaling imported assets is covered extensively, if undecipherably, in the DVDSP manual.

EyeTV markers as menu buttons in DVD Studio Pro?

As I am still pondering on buying or not DVD Studio Pro, I would like to know, whether the markers that I can apply to EyeTV recordings are maintained when I export the mpeg2 program stream for further use in DVD Studio Pro. When I export for Toast Titanium, Toast creates image menu buttons, but I cannot add any title or text to the button.

I don't trust the simulator. Build the project, then using DVD Player take a look at the VIDEO_TS folder.

Next button problems DVD studio pro

I'm having a problem with navigation on a project, specifically the next button navigation.
I have a dual layer disc with 7 20 minute shows. Track 1 = show 1, etc. Play All button leads to Track 1. End jump of Track 1 is set to Track 2 and so on until the last show the end jump is set back to menu 1. Each track has 4 chapter markers.If I just sit back and let it play through it plays perfectly (on disc and simulator). When I hit the next button in the simulator it advances to the next chapter as it should except that at the last chapter marker for each track it does not advance, instead playing through a 12 second credit sequence before jumping to the next track. However when I burn the DVD and hit next at the last chapter marker it goes back to the beginning of that individual show, I can then hit next to go through the chapters again, and the second time through it will jump to the next track on the disc as it should. This happens for every track.
Similar problem for Menu 2, buttons for individual shows lead to Stories for each track with the end jump going back to Menu 2. It works fine if I just let it play through. However when navigating with the next button it plays as above in the simulator (does not skip credits) but then goes back to Menu 2. On disc however it will either jump back to the beginning of the same track or to a different track, sometimes sequential, sometimes not.
Seems like I'm missing something simple but I've been through the manual and searched through the inspector for any kind of controls and can't find anything that applies. Anybody have any idea what area I should be looking in? I suppose one answer would be to burn everything as one single track and then do stories for the individual shows, but is there away to make this work?
This is my first dual layer disc, don't know if that is causing issues. Jump point is set manually 4.2G into the project, OTO, not seamless, at a black spot in show 5. It seems to be working fine, don't know if this has anything to do with the navigation problems.

I'd put all 7 onto 1 track. Then use stories to build the disc. Way less complicated and easier for you (and the DVD player) to know what is going on.
This way you can set it where Story 1 Plays just the first Show and then goes back to the menu. The way you are trying to set it up now it would play the next show automatically (you may want it to do this, I don't know) but with stories you can have each show play and the go back to the menu (or continue playing the next one). Then on your play all button you point to a story that includes everything. (Or just point it to the 1 track that has everything on it already)

Making Play button in DVD Studio Pro

So here's another question for you guys. All of my wisdom is learned here at the Apple Discussions boards...
I am just trying to create a basic video in DVD SP. I have created the track and a menu page. On that menu page I also created a button. In my connections, I've set that menu 1 be my first play and that menu1:button 1 jump when activated to Track 1. when I go to the simulator, the menu appears on screen but when I press play the track is not there. Is there a step I am missing?

Maybe a silly question, but are you sure your track has video and audio dropped into it?
Also if you set chapter markers in your track, did you jump just to the track or to a chapter marker in the track--perhaps the last chapter marker in that case?
Also, are you pressing play or the return(dimond or oval button between arrows on the remote) if you are pressing play, check under the ....um...advanced tab, i think, you can set remote functions for all menus and tracks make sure you have what you need enabled on that menu. I believe the default is eerything enabled, but I can't remember.

Ah... I see what you are (were) saying!
No, it isn't possible to do it even with a script.
Your only choices are to add the transition as a piece of video to a track and go from the menu to the track and then on to your main feature, or to add it as the background to another menu and go from menu1 to menu2 and then on to the track automatically.
You will get pauses in playback if you do this, but you can avoid them if you add the transition footage to the same track as your main feature, immediately before the feature plays. This will give you the same effect as a transition with audio.

I checked my permissions and all was ok.
Then I imported the exported QT movie and tried to delete the Compressed m2v movie - Crash.
after a few attempts I was able to delete it and replace it with the exported QT movie and it works now.

Hellos everyone, i was wondering if anyone could tell me how can i add subtitles on dvd studio pro? how can i add the option subtitles or to add the subtitles to a dvd? is there like a tutorial on how to do this?

hi this is really easy to do in DVD SP.
first create a menu card for subtitle. in that have buttons like
ON, OFF, PLAY, MENU. as per your requirements
and you need to do small scripting works for ON & OFF
ON button scripting.
add new script from the tab.and in the script editor add the following script
set system streamst(subtitle stream1)(on)
jump(subtitle menu- play button)
jump can be as your choice. this script will activate the subtitle
OFF button scripting.
add new script from the tab.and in the script editor add the following script
set system streamst(subtitle stream1)(off)
jump(subtitle menu- play button)
this script will deactivate the subtitle stream.
make sure you assign the scripts to the desired buttons

Compressed film to big for dvd studio pro - help

I have a wedding film which is 2 hrs and 6 mins long at final edit... it was a long wedding!
I used the 150min preset in compressor for audio and video but when i add it to DVD studio pro it takes up 5.3gb, far to much for the single layer DVD. Can anyone give advice to get the down so that it is under 4gb and not on the red?

Did compressor make a AC3 file ?
If not, encode your audio to AC3 and the file size will srink quite a lot.

Converting Unix Executable Files for use in DVD Studio Pro

I have several projects that were created in iDVD 2 back in 2002. In Finder, the file kind is listed as Unix Executable Files. If I add the extension .dvdproj using Get Info and try to open them in DVD Studio Pro, I get the error Wrong File Format and it will not open the project.
The machine I am currently using does not have iDVD on it.
Does anyone have a recommendation on a way to make these files usable for DVD Studio Pro? I understand if it is not possible.

You can import iDVD project into DVD Studio Pro, however I think it won't work with projects from iDVD 5. I'm not sure about iDVD 2. Also these files have no extension and are listed as Unix Executable Files.

Marking DVD Studio Pro Markers In FCP 5

im using final cut pro 5& dvd studio pro 3 and i am trying to add markers that DVD studio pro will recognize and will make chapters from the markers in my sequence. what kind of marker do i use, a standard chapter marker? i tried exporting it by going to
file>export>quicktime movie...
and from there i chose all markers from the marker area and when i opened it in dvd studio pro 3 no chapter markers were there. what am i doing wrong?

Please clarify exactly what you're doing when you say the above ('open it in DVDSP 3').
This might be a "Duh!" question, but are you placing your FCP movie into a Track (in DVD Studio Pro)?
In case it's not obvious, you will not be able to access or view markers in a QT movie (or M2V file) unless your movie is place in a Track.
(Forgive the simplification of the DVD spec, but Markers, though embedded in movie files, are navigational tools for Tracks.)

How to export subtitles create in DVD Studio Pro into a Quicktime file?

My film was edited in Final Cut, then exported to DVD Studio Pro to make dvds. Subtitles were added in DVD Studio Pro.
I need now to make a Quicktime file of the film for web streaming and the file still needs to include the subtitles (or the option to make them appear)
but how can I export the subtitles (dvd studio pro type of files) to my Quicktime file, for streaming?
I read that this is possible but how?

A DVD uses VOBSUB aka. idx/sub format subtitles which are bitmap images. QuickTime itself does not support this format but Perian can sort of allow them to work. However firstly Perian is Mac only, and secondly I would not expect this work in a web-browser. In fact I don't think there is anyway to control subtitles in a web-browser.
If you have the subtitles in a text format, preferably .SRT format, then you may have more options but again I would think you would still have problem in a web-browser.
In general terms, the best utility for adding text subtitles to a QuickTime compatible file is iSubtitle details are available here http://www.bitfield.se/isubtitle/index.html
What would be possible would be to 'burn' permenantly the image of the subtitles in to the video. This means they would always be visisble even in a web-browser but could not be turned off. You would also be limited to a single language. There are several tools that could do this including Handbrake (to convert directly from the DVD), and SubMerge also from Bitfield.
There are some tools for Windows that use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to convert the bitmap subtitles in to text ones.

H.264 to DVD Studio Pro

I am new to this but why in Compressor does it say I can use H.264 for DVD Studio Pro and then DVD studio pro only sees it as a audio file???

I have the same problem with 1080p25 h264 .mov file created with compressor HD DVD settings.
DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 Release notes claim that :
DVD Studio Pro now correctly supports the following H.264 formats for native use in PAL HD projects:
720p25
720p50
1080p25
Native support means that the files are not reencoded when they are imported into the appropriate NTSC or PAL HD project. In some cases, however, frames may be set to repeat during playback to create the HD DVD specification’s required frame rate.
But DVD Studio Pro seams to only see the audio part of the .mov file.
720p video works fine. The problem is only with 1080p video. I guess there is a bug somewhere...
Could somebody confirm this ?

Can anyone recommend a good DVD studio pro tutorial? I've searched Ken Stone's stuff, but haven't found anything useful for DVD Studio Pro 4. I've also looked into lynda.com; but I just need a quick getting started tutorial.

My question is deeper than that. When I export through compressor, sending it to the desktop, the final file is unrecognizable in DVD SP. When I export as quicktime movie into DVD SP it doesn't save my chapter markers and takes forever to load as a track. I can't figure out what I'm missing. I figured a good step by step tutorial would help me uncover something.

Dual audio tracks in dvd studio pro

Is there a way to play two audio tracks at the same time? I have a documentary setup with chapters and would like to add low level music under the commentary to mask room noise. I am hoping not to have to do in my editing program and just add it in DVD studio pro!

DVD SP is an authoring program, not an editing/compositing arena.
You need to go back to your NLE or an audio program to do this.
