I can't add folders to my itunes (v10) library after reinstall.

So I got hit with the "new Library" error after having Itunes 11 for a week or so. After this awful mishap, I uninstalled 11, and got 10 back because I had never had any problems with it. After reading countless forums on how to import all my music that was in my library before everything (going to 'Previous Itunes Library, etc"), only some folders(albums) imported. (Not anywhere near all my folders of music I had) Now most of my folders will NOT add to my library by going to 'Add Folders to Library", and you can only add them by individual files/songs by going to "Add File By Library." It would take me years to do all of this with all of my music. PLEASE help.

keep all of my music in a music folder, and when I want to put them onto my iPod, I just drag them into my iTunes library (or go to File > Add File to Library).
Why?
Just leave them in iTunes.

I have new iphone and all data were restored but my music! How can I add my music from Itunes and new iphone?

Connect the old phone to your computer, right click on it in iTunes, and choose Transfer Purchases. That should put all of your music in iTunes except any tracks that were not purchased from iTunes. If you have any such you will have to retrieve them from the original source, or see: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.
Apple also has this tip for copying data from an old phone to a new one.

  • Can't add m4a files in itunes

When I try to add m4a files in itunes it did not add it. Please help how can I add m4a files in itunes.

Further info: my housemate just drop-boxed (mac to mac) a few of his albums that work fine in his iTunes and the same thing, they'll show in a playlist with their correct details but not in the main library. iTunes is definitely processing after I add them, and they are definitely not corrupt (shown MP3 scan +repair) - I've attached a couple of pictures to clarify.
Please help! I'm a bit OCB about my music being organised correctly I'll admit!

  • I can't add music files to iTunes

Since 10.4 I can't add music files to iTunes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
iTunes seems to scan and add them in gray, but fails to add the files to iTunes.
My exact problem is described over here: http://www.betalogue.com/2011/07/25/itunes104-addingfiles/
    Any ideas?

In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-C, or select
              Go ▹ Computer
from the menu bar. A window will open showing all mounted volumes. Select the one in question and open the Info window. What is shown as the Format in the General section?

How can I Add FOLDERs to my library in 11.0.5? My version only shows 'Files'

Add Folder to Library is on the File menu, as pictured below.
If by any chance you don't see the menu bar (File, Edit, View, Controls, Store, Help), first enable it by using CTRL+B.

I'm experiencing the exact same thing. Netflix, Youtube and everything else works perfectly, but I'm unable to wirelessly stream anything from my Mac, iPad, or iPhone. All on same wireless channel, all new updates, all have home sharing turned on. Never had a problem the last 2 years.

  • How Can You Add New MP3s to itunes without Duplicating Existing Songs

Is there a way to get iTunes to search my music folder and only add song not already in my library? I rip all my music as MP3s with CDex so I can have some music at work (We're not allowed to install programs at work so I have to use Media Player there). I keep everything in a folder called music with folders for each artist and a separate folder for each of their albums. Sometimes I'll rip a bunch of CDs in one day that end up being scattered throughout my entire music folder. It's a royal pain in the behind to have to nagivate to each individual directory to add the songs to my iTunes library. I can not find any option for "find new songs", or more preferably to tell iTunes to search my main music directory and add new, AND ONLY NEW, songs to it's library. If click "File" then "Add folder to library" then pick my music folder iTunes proceeds to add all the new music I've added, but also adds another listing of every song already in the library. Why is this so difficult? Is it just me? Am I missing something simple here?

I take that means I'd be able to move my stuff (since I've ripped them all) from computer to computer without worrying that one day it'll tell me I've used up my five computers?
If I switch the setting and start letting iTunes to organize everything will it move the files from their current location into the iTunes music folder? Does iTunes put them on my hard drive in such a way that I'd be able to know which song is which if I "look" at my hard drive without using iTunes? I only ask this because if i try to find a song on my iPod they're all in mysterious folders with mysterious names and I have no way of telling which song is which if the computer I plug it into doesn't have iTunes. Oh, one last question. How does the 5 computer thing work? If my girlfriend plugs her iPod into my computer does that count? for example if she has her iPod authorized on her home computer, her work computer, and her laptop, does this mean she can only authorize it two more times?

  • I can't add m4r files to itunes.

I tried adding several ways - drag and drop; import; copying file to itunes folders, including auto add folder; etc.  Nothing works.  It shows a plus sign and acts like it's about to add it, but it doesn't show up.  I can play the file, just can't add it.  I shortened it to 29 seconds.  I tried editing the info to fill in the artist etc, but I am unable to access those fields.  I can see them, just can't type in them.  I tried adding someone elses m4r file and it did the same thing.  How do I get this to work?
    Thanks.

Oops sorry! It's actually rather complicated... got the steps above from number 3 wrong.
    Restart >>
Full correct steps should be like this :
    1) Select a favourite song in iTunes to be made into Ringtone.
    2) Get Info on that song and make any 0:30 seconds portion of that song.
(specify Start & Stop time to 30-seconds long and click OK)
    3) Right-click or Ctrl-Click again on same song and select "Create AAC Version"
(when done iTunes will create a Chime)
    4) to locate the created m4a file easily, Ctrl-Click again on same song and select "Show in Finder"
(iTunes will automatically point the location of the original mp3 & the newly created m4a files)
    5) change the m4a file to m4r as suggested...
(rename to whatever you like but must change the extension to .m4r)
    6) At this point, the m4r(original) file isn't a "Ringtone" file yet... which we'll need to change now)
(check under "Get Info" – "Kind" :  it's still "Apple MPEG-4 Audio")
1st by dragging that newly changed m4r(original) file to somewhere out of that same default folder it was created by iTunes...
    { this is where most confusions occur, take note here, it gets rather complicated }
    7) Once it's outside of that folder, Double Click the m4r(original) file and iTunes will play
(u can stop it immediately...) this is just to let iTunes automatically convert that m4r(ori) file into a new duplicate and places it inside the initial default folder where the original mp3 file is kept.
    8) Locate that duplicate m4r(new & true) file, in the same mp3 folder and now DUPLICATE-Drag (press Option while dragging to get the "+" sign) it to the "TONES" folder in your default apple folder structure. (check that under Get Info, your new m4r File's "Kind" should be "Ringtone")
//to get to that "TONES" Folder : First Locate your iTunes default music folder --> usually in your Default "MUSIC" folder --> Navigate to "iTunes Media"  --> Navigate to "Tones".
Keep this window open to make the transfer manually.
    9) Once your duplicate is inside the "Tones" folder, double-click on that duplicate m4r(true) file and let iTunes play, it should automatically place that bloodycomplicated file into the "Ringtone" sidebar List in iTunes program (check program to see)
    10) There you go. Now you can Sync / Delete / Add the whole Ringtone contents to your iPhone as you wish. //Don't forget to set SYNC on the iphone to iTunes under "Tones" tab in your iTunes - iPhone screen... and click SYNC button & wait for the magic.
( Finally you can check inside your iPhone "Sounds" settings and hopefully if all steps done correctly, the bloodycomplicatedringtone selection will be there. Enjoy!

  • Can I add an extra lower quality music library to iTunes for iPhone syncin?

    Hi
I currently have my whole iTunes library in Apple Lossless format as I like the high quality for my AppleTV and don't mind the extra HD space it takes up. However, it means that the files are really too big for the limited 8GB capacity of my new iPhone.
Question - can I set up a seperate area/seperate Music Library/seperate folder (whatever), where I can duplicate my entire current iTunes Music Library at a lower quality setting, specifically for use when syncing to my iPhone?
    1. How would I duplicate to a lower quality?
    2. How do I set up a seperate area for these lower quality files that will sync to iPhone?
    3. Could I automate the CD ripping process so that it placed a file in each of the seperate areas (big ask that one)?
    Kind regards,
    Garglon

    1. Go to iTunes Preferences>Advanced>Importing
    Select Import using <AAC encoder> Setting <Custom>
Select the music you want to duplicate and add it to a playlist so its easier to find
Select all music to duplicate again right click and select Convert Selection to AAC
    2. Close iTunes. Open iTunes holding the option key
It will ask you if you want to create a new library or open an existing one. Select create library
Add the new lower quality songs to the library
You can add the original songs first to this new library >>> then convert >>> and after the conversion remove the original songs from the library(just from the library do not move them to trash)
You can also just create a new playlist with the lower quality songs but then you would have duplicates in your library
3 You would have to import the songs from the CD twice
    a. Once in the good quality library(by changing the import settings back from the low quality)
    b. Then open the new library change the import settings and import again
An easy way to find the newly created files is adding a new smart playlist with the rules:
    Playlist is Music
Limit to <how many songs you are duplicating> <items> selected by <most recently added>
