I can't add gmail address to iMessage -was working before

Hi
My children have iPad airs set up under my apple ID (I have an iPhone 5s). All software is up to date.
Until recently they were using their own email(gmail) addresses (over wifi only) in iMessage to message their friends. All of a sudden their email addresses disappeared from their devices and only my phone number and email address is available to use. So they started receiving all my private text messages on their device - I have disabled the phone number since then but not been able to add their email address back.
I have tried repeatedly (like 10x) on both devices to "Add another email". It is stuck on verifying (and no verifying email is in the gmail account, I have checked repeatedly). The gmail accounts are enabled for less secure connections and also two-step verification is disabled.
I'm at my wit's end!
thank you
Renia

Hello Renia,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For some initial troubleshooting on this issue where you're unable to add an email account to an iMessage account, I'd like you to first turn off iMessage, and then turn it back on.

  • Can't add Gmail address to iMessage account

I have tried several times to add my Gmail address to the list of addresses that I can be reached at via my iMessage account. Every time, it says "email sent, waiting to verify". But I never receive the email (and yes, I've checked the Spam folder).
I'm speculating that this could be because I also have a Google Talk account defined in Messages. But why should this matter?
Could someone explain? (And even if this is working as intended, the message is misleading. Instead of "email sent, waiting to verify", it should say "you cannot add this address because it is already used in your Google account".)

    Hi,
It should not matter whether the Added email is already in use as a Google/Jabber account.
Is the Google Account logging in ?
Google changed to their own Security authentication process called something like Auth-one.
They claim this exceeds the SSL Login Messages makes to their servers.
For the Google account it means you have to visit the account settings at Google and enable "Less Secure Logins" for apps like iChat and Messages and some Browsers.
Two Step verification also have to be Turned Off.
Now the iMessages use of additional emails makes me unsure if they use SSL or not.
To register and link to the iMessages servers for the Apple ID in use does use port 5223 (the same port Jabber clients use for SSL logins)
It suggests it is a Jabber like Database that is being used.

  • I have problem with my contacts.  I can't send message if the contact didn't send me a message before.  How can I add new address?

i have problem with my contacts.  I can't send message if the contact didn't send me a message before.  How can I add new address?

    Hi tizac,
You will want to add them to your Contacts.
There's a "+" button at the bottom of the contact list on the left to add a contact.
If you need to add the email address or phone number to an existing contact, there's an Edit button at the bottom of the contact info (on the right).
Once you have the contact email address or phone number you want to message to, scroll all the way down to the bottom of their information and there are options to:
    Send Message               FaceTime
    Share Contact             Add to Favorites
Of course choose "Send Message" to send an iMessage to them and you will start a new chat.  You will be given the options of how to contact them, via phone number (if they are on an iPhone) or email (if they are on an iPod touch or iPad).   They do need to be signed up for iMessage or it won't allow you to send.

Check Settings>General>Date & Time>Set Automatically>On. Make sure that the time zone setting is also set correctly.
If that didn't solve the problem, restart your iPad and try again. If that fails, reset your iPad and try again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • HT3576 My imessage was working fine... however, I am now not recieving my messages. Why might this be happening?

Please help... I have an iPod touch. The iMessage was working fine... all of sudden I am no longer able to send and recieve messages.

Thank you all! I had reset/changed my iPod touch i.d. a few days ago and did not follow through with changing it for the message app. Tell your girl to go to Settings... Messages... Send & Receive... tap on it to verify i.d.
    Thanks again!

  • How can I add multiple addresses to a group within address book?

I realize you can add in addresses by going to 'Message' then 'add Sender to Address Book,' but what I'm interested in doing is within Apple Mail, adding multiple addresses into a specific group within address book. I've tried to do this using mail scripts but keep getting an error.
Is it possible to do this?
    Thanks.
    David

So far, FWIW all I've got is individual AddToAddressBook, then in AB itself, drag and drop one by one from the main list into the desired group.

  • Can't remove gmail address from sync'd outlook events

I have an iPhone 5.  I like to sync it with my work computer for calendar only.  I only like to sync it one way...from Outlook to the phone.  I downloaded iTunes and used it to sync my Outlook calendar.  Now all of my previous events in Outlook have my gmail address on it as an attendee.  This is not good!!  I cannot remove it myself since I was not the one who planned the meeting.  Is there a way to keep this from happening?  How can I erase what is already there?

No, neither in this forum nor from Club Nokia. I sighed, gave up and reinstalled PC Suite 6.4, which I knew had worked fine. I will never update PC Suite again! (Until I get a new phone of course...)

  • Can't add to Address Book via Mail App

I had some permissions problems a while back (I did an "apply to enclosing folders" on my system disk -  don't ask - I'm an idiot) and while I fixed them by creating a new system and migrating the old system data to the new system, some problems still persist.
The most annoying one being that I can't add Address Book Contacts to the address book right from the Mail application. I can add a contact manually through the Address Book application, but this doesn't seem to be working "interapplication".
Does anyone have any ideas how this might be fixed? I've repaired permissions NUMEROUS times and really the only ones I get are ACL's are either missing, or unexpected.
I think this same type of problem is inhibiting me from adding dates to iCal from the Mail application as well.
    Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help & cooperation.
    Best,
    Fred

  • Can't add new Address Book entries from Mail

I can no longer add new contacts to the Address Book directly from Mail. I can go through the motions (right clicking on an email address brings up the appropriate options), but no new entry shows up in the Address Book. When I try to repeat the action, I can no longer "add" the entry, but instead it gives me the option of finding that entry. When I do that, it opens up the Address Book, but just defaults to the first entry. If I close and reopen Mail, it defaults back to the option of adding the entry again (as opposed to 'finding' it). Has anyone else seen this? (FYI, I can manually add entries to the Address Book just fine.)

  • Can't add gmail to internet accounts

I'm running 10.10.3 and up until a few days ago everything was fine.
Suddenly my gmail accounts wouldn't load properly and after trying to fix the problem by deleting the accounts in the internet accounts tab, I can't add any google accounts anymore.
When I click on add account and thengoogle, adropdownwindow pops up, and then just loads. Nothing else happens.
I tried this on different networks, checked if I'm running a VPN or DNS service, nothing. The accounts work well and are synced with AirMail 2 and on my iPhone with the native mail app. It's only on my Mac that nothing comes up when trying to add a google account
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account and see if you can add them there.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Can't add Gmail (POP) accounts to Apple Mail

I noticed a day before the 10.5.7 update that my existing gmail accounts in Mail suddenly stopped retrieving mail, giving "a server not responding" message. So I delete the accounts and try to add again. And again, pop server not responding. This was all on 10.5.6 mind you, and yes all my settings are correct under google settings.
10.5.7 was released and I seen in the notes that there was a problem with gmail and Apple Mail in the past (no problems for me but I only used POP). So, like always, I repair disk permissions, download the full combo update and install. After install, like always, I repair disk permissions again before doing anything else.
Same thing. Can't add my POP gmail accounts to Apple Mail. POP server not responding

I have just experienced the same issue with a gmail account I setup in Mail when I bought my first Macbook 2 years ago. I've never had any problems with the gmail POP server before, until last night July 26th 09. Then suddenly a couple of minutes after successfully retrieving the emails as usual, it tried again and failed, asking for the password. I entered the password, but still came back saying POP server not responding.
I did some updates yesterday, but nothing more than the one for the pro apps. I'm completely up to date with all Leopard updates. Also I've double checked that all is working with my gmail account and settings; no change in settings or password were made.
Do I need to delete the account in Mail and recreate it from scratch, then, is that the only answer when this error seems to occur out of the blue?
