I can't apply a label color to some apps

I'm trying to organize my Applications folder into apps paid for to developers, paid for via the MAS, freeware, and other designations. When I highlight some apps, the label feature is grayed out and I'm unable to give these apps a label color. I can't figure out what's common among these as some apps purchased through the MAS accept the label while otheres don't. Same with other apps. It's totally random to me and totally capricious.
Can anyone suggest how to highlight any app with a color? I'd even use Terminal if that's the way to go.

@tod- I actually figured it out and it's a bit easier-
at the bottom of the Get Info screen, click on the tool icon with the down arrow and hit 'Apply to enclosed items' and it works.
Im starting from scratch since my computer keep crashing so I re-downloaded and installed Lion. Now all of my applications are asking for serial numbers. it's weird since my old user shows up but the machine boots up as a new user and will not open the old applications..dgoing to open this in a new thread but thought I'd try my luck here.

No, you cannot change.
The only thing you can change as a whole:
SETTINGS/GENERAL/ACCESSIBILTY/ turn on WHITE ON BLACK.
You can test to see if this one fits you. If not change it back.

Why can't I set label color? I have write permission.

I can't set label color on a particular file, or rename the file, or duplicate the file.
Why not?
I'm in an Admin account.
Get File Info shows that the file is not locked.
Get File Info shows that the file is readable and writeable by my account, by staff, and by everyone.
In Terminal, "ls -l" agrees, showing that the file is readable and writable by user, group, and other.
I have write permission to the containing folder.
Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions didn't change the permissions.
What else can I try?

Might try BatchMod, it's much better/easier than the Finder for recursive Permission changes, but careful, it's powerful...

Once open, drop that folder on it's icon, change rights, Apply to all within.

Can I Set Submix Label Color

I would like to be able to set the label color as can be done with tracks, and clips. At the moment, all the submix tracks are the default green.
Is there a way to set the label color?
In the manual, there is only a mention that the submix tracks have a color label, but no mention on how to change it, and cntl-click does not review a pop-up menu, and using the "Multitrack > Track Color" menu, has no effect.
To me, is seems if a track has a color label, I should be able to change it...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have the following:
panelColorCode.setForeground(Color.black);
panelColorCode.setLayout(new Gridlayout(0, 2));
panelColorCode.setBackground(Color.white);
....add(new Label("Colour code"));
....add(new Label.. these are both white backgrounds
....add(new Label... ditto
panelColorCode.setBackground(Color.gray);
....add(new Label....
this last line sets the whole panel to gray, but i just want the last label to be greyed out. is this possible, am i being dim?

Can't "Apply" Fast/Slow/Reverse on some clips

I have some clips in my timeline that I cannot change the speed on. This typically happens with a clip that I already edited in some way. Particularly when I have already altered the playback speed on it before. When I try to do this now, the Apply button is grey and won't respond.
Anyone know how come? Thanks

I have a somewhat similar problem. For a while now, I haven't been able to apply any Fast/Slow/Reverse effects at all. I can select the effect, and even preview it in the main window, and when I click apply it even takes a little while and shows a progress bar while it "renders" the effect. But when it's done, I'm left with a clip with no thumbnail (in the timeline) that, when played, just plays what was there already, but since it extends the length of the clip in the timeline, the whole rest of the timeline is off from what the movie actually is.
I'm using iMovie HD 5.02
Anybody run into this before, or have any ideas?

Can't apply changes in SRM-MDM UI APP

Hi all.
When I make changes in MDM_SRM_UI_App, they don't apply on catalog interface.
for example: I add new field to view of shoping card in MDM_SRM_UI_App. Then I logon to SRM and searching new position in my MDM catalog. But I didn't see new added field in grid.
Restart of JAVA didn't help.
version of srm-mdm is the latest: SRM-MDM Catalog 1.0 SP01 Patch00 Hotfix 01

I can't control the background color of some of my pages in IE.

I normally use chrome to view pages. I started checking other browsers and ie displayed some of my pages with a white background when the code
says it is supposed to be black. I noticed that in the "bad" pages the code is faded out. I think it is a table problem. How can I fix it without starting over?
A screen capture below shows the "faded code".

Your Meta tags are both missing their closing brackets ">" in View Source in IE and Firefox.
Chrome shows closing brackets but only on the beginning of the next line - not sure if that's really there or Chrome making assumptions.
Nevertheless, in Code View, insert the > manually at the end of the <Meta> lines as shown in red below:

Why can't I install the actualization of some apps on my MacBook?

I can't install the actualizations of Safari (version: 5.1.2), iTunes (v, 10.5.2), iPhoto (v, 9.2.1), Security Actualization 2011-06, Keynote, Java (v, 6), and Camera
compatibility actualization.
The process start normaly and all the actualizations are downloaded, but when de system begins the install part, appears an ad "Unexpected error"....
And the actualizacion doesn't install
The same error appears when I try to install Unity Web Player.

Can Ipad2 be restored and still keep some apps?

I just purchased an Ipad2 from a friend. Is it possible to restore to factory settings but still keep some of his purchased apps? I assume if I restore and sync to my itunes that i will lose his apps.

You should not keep his purchase apps under any conditions since you did not purchase them and have no legal right to keep them. Create or use your own iTunes account.
There are many free apps available for the iPad and many paid apps are very inexpensive. Do the right thing, restore to factory settings and make the iPad your own.
And yes - when you sync to your own iTunes library you will lose his apps.

Can't apply Finder color labels to selected apps/utils

just upgraded from tiger -> leopard -> snow leopard.
some of the apps in the Applications folder, and most of the apps in the Utilities folder, have now lost their Finder label functionality: i can't set a label, because that feature is grayed out.
i assume this must be some kind of permissions problem, but i don't get all the way to a solution. even if i add myself to the permissions for the individual item and give myself read+write access, the labeling functionality doesn't return.
first it looked like apple's own apps were more likely to be locked down, but on further inspection that theory doesn't really hold. though, there are apps in each folder for which i can set a label, so it's not about permissions of the parent folder.

Just got my new Mini with 10.6.1 and I can't label certain apps either.
This is a major pain as I use labels to find things quickly. Anyone have a fix yet?

is there a way of applying both the five-star rating, AND the green color label at the same time, with one keyboard shortcut, or otherwise?
If you need to do this in exactly one action, then I don't think there is a way to do this. Of course, if you want to accomplish this in two actions, you can select all the 5 star images, and then apply the Green color label to them all in one step, but that isn't what you asked for.
Is there any way to make my five-star rated photos more visually prominent in the grid view?
Not that I know of
ANother thought is to create a smart collection of your 5 star images, and then you can use the smart collection to view the 5-star images (none of the other images will appear)

Can Not Apply Labels

Hi, All.
I've upgraded from Bridge CS4 to CS5. It's been great, except for one thing: I can't seem to apply any labels of any kind to files.
Here's what happens: I select the files which I want to label and either use the keyboard shortcut or the menu bar to apply a label. Then, nothing changes. No color appears, and, if I go back to the menu bar, there aren't any check marks next to the labels that I've applied. Things that are labeled from CS4 appear as a white bar.
Any suggestions, hints, or ideas?
Should I file a bug report?

Even though I was pretty sure that I had all the permissions I needed, I went to the Get Info window for the root of the drive that my photos are on. I was owner and had r/w, but to be sure I did a Apply To Enclosed Items. This fixed things.
