I can't backup using icloud ?

I have a white iPhone 4s ios5 I can't get the iCloud back up in my settings to work I get an unknown error and try again later ? Ive deleted my iCloud account started over, restored as new. Nothing I've tried has worked I'm not a novice. Any suggestions before i make a genius appointment ?

Tried that.. No joy. Just tried to synch again with iCloud . The bar gets nearly to the end and then stops. Says below it - estimated time remaining.... I'm confused. If I synch to my computer is this the same as synching to iCloud. It's shame it's doesn't work!

Apple ID's can be used for anything, a single ID can be used for all your accounts (ie iCloud, iTunes, MAS, Apple community etc), ideally this would be the way forward. So far as iTunes goes you need to continue to use the same ID as you have always used or you will lose access to your previous purchases and your iTunes match subscription.
If you are using a second ID for iCloud, you can continue to do so or use the ID you use for iTunes, but if you choose the later you will need to move all your calendar, contact etc data to the account using the ID you use for iTunes.
When (if) you change which account you use you would delete the account on an iOS device and log back in with the correct details, on a mac you would sign out in the iCloud system preference pane.

How can I backup my icloud files on my ipad and iphone when icloud won't allow me to login with my new email address when I try to initiate backup. My apple i.d.was successfully changed in April 2014 but some aspects of icloud don't seem to have accepted those changes.

If you need to change the iCloud ID on it, you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Yes, using iCloud does not require installing anything on your computer.
If you want to use the features of iCloud that do involve loading the iCloud Control Panel on the computer then you will need to either upgrade the OS on the computer or buy a new computer.

The purpose of iCloud is to sync data between your devices.
There is no "web address" to your files and no way to "share" them with others (except photos).

You have to respond to the verification email that Apple sends you by clicking on the Verify Now link. Make sure you are check the email address you used to set up your iCloud account. Also make sure you check the spam/junk folder as well as the inbox.
If it isn't there, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in, click on Name, ID and Email addresses on the left, then to the right click Resend under your Primary Email Address to resend the verification email.

iCloud is free and you can use it regardless of the size of your iTunes Library.
iTunes Match is not free, and it has a 25GB limit.

Time machine should be written to an external drive by preference and if not to a network drive.

Did you sign up to iCloud from your computer and upload your music to it before your computer failed ? If not then no, you can't use iCloud - that can only be set up from a computer's iTunes.
If all your music is only on your iPhone and you don't have it on a backup then you should be able to copy your iTunes purchases back from it to a computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. For music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs, bought from other sites) then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

Can I really use iCloud to easily transfer and synch Mac and PC files on several devices - including my iPad and PCs?

Hello Everyone
I am a novice iPad User because of 2 reasons, which are the only reasons I use my PCs at all!! The first reason is because of the great difficulty, almost impossibility, I have in getting files (Mac and PC - Msoft/Lotus) to tranfer and synch via the internet between my iPad and home & work laptop. Without going into too much detail will iCloud (and iTunes) solve this file transfer and synch problem?
Secondly I have some e-mail issues when using different ISPs, but this question can wait until the other (above) has been solved - if this is possible.
If there is anyone who can advise me on iCloud/iTunes I would be most grateful.

You can't do that, but that isn't any different from any other type of document (with the exception of photos) with dropbox on an iOS device, that's a limitation of the dropbox app, not of iCloud.That's not the same as iWork not working with dropbox which is what you stated originally.
