I can't boot any latest gen imacs off a mountain lion USB bootable drive

So I have created a mountain lion USB boot drive because I work on a number of imacs, but for the latest generation it doesn't seem to work.
I create it in the normal way, downloading the app through itunes then using http://liondiskmaker.com/ to create the usb boot drive.
When I try to boot from it: http://i.imgur.com/IUDlv.jpg
I get this icon on the screen: http://i.imgur.com/DNc8U.jpg
The weird thing is that I have used this exact bootable usb stick to upgrade many, many older imacs to mountain lion. I don't want to have to redownload the entire 5gb or so every time I need to install mountain lion on a new imac. I've tried this with both the 21.5" and the 27" varieties and both have the same issue. What is causing this?
I also need to boot from it directly rather then doing an in-OS upgrade in the odd times I'm working with an imac at a place that doesn't have a decent internet connection (6 gigs of downloading isn't available to everybody in Australia)
Someone has mentioned that it may be due to new imacs not allowing older installation media, but I have downloaded the latest version as of 3 days ago and it does the same thing.

It has nothing to do with Lion Disk Maker. That is only used to Create a Boot USB thumb drive, or DVD, of the Lion/Mt Lion install files. It does not add anything to either the DVD or thumb drive you create with it.
The problem lies with the Special build Apple creates for every new Mac that comes out that has different hardware then the previously released models.
Eventually they will come out with a new updated build, like 10.8.3, that will contain all the drivers for every Mac computer ML can be installed on, Older and the newest. Until that happens there is only one way to get a version that will boot on the newest systems. And that is to use either the Recovery HD or the Online Internet Recovery system ON one of those New Mac's. Those newer Mac's are the only one that can access the Special Build needed for the new systems.

  • Can't install any .PKG or .MPKG files with Mountain Lion.

Some weeks ago I found out, that I can't install anymore any programmes that are packed in .PKG or .MPKG files.
Whenever I double click one of theese files, or when I try the "open with" option, I get a system response from TextEdit.App . . .
I tried already some of the advices mentioned in the community forum, but nothing worked so far.
Latest thing I tried was to re-associate these two file types with the Installer - but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I've got an iMac27, late 2009, 16GB RAM, equipped with the latest version of Mountain Lion.
Hope, you can help me - there are some updates (MS Office, MyTomTom, Logitech drivers, ...) that need to be installed.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dirk.

    I would go thus;
    1. Back up, preferably using bootable and verified clone(s).
    2. Boot into recovery and repair permissions/disc.
    3. Apply combo updater if step 2 was unsuccessful. (The link I have posted assumes you are running 10.7.3 as per your signature).

  • I can not find Idvd on my iMac, and I have Apple USB super drive

Where can I get IDVD from, I can find updates but not the original file. I bought my iMac last year with the Superdrive but was never given the IDVD programme

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • HT1338 How can I upgrade to Lion?  My iMac cannot support Mountain Lion but I do not see Lion in the app store anymore.

I want to upgrade my 2006imac with 3GB ram but mountain lion requires 4gb. Can I purchase mountain lion in the app store and it will install lion or will it just charge me $20 for an OS I can't use?

A 2006 iMac cannot run Mountain Lion at all. Mountain Lion only requires 2 GB of RAM, but your model has a video controller which doesn't support features required by Mountain Lion, so Mountain Lion does not support your model. The earliest iMac which can run Lion is the mid 2007 model (aluminium body). A full list of supported models is available here.
If you attempt to buy Mountain Lion in the App Store using your 2006 iMac, the sale will not proceed and you will get an error message saying you cannot purchase Mountain Lion because it is not compatible with your computer. You will not be charged.
If you are currently running Snow Leopard and want to upgrade to Lion, but didn't already purchase Lion (e.g. for use on another computer), it is apparently possible to place a special order for Lion via a telephone call to Apple Customer Support. (I say "apparently" because there have been reports that Apple told some people this was the correct solution, but early attempts to place an order were refused with Apple Support claiming they weren't selling Lion at all. I think this was a temporary situation and it should be resolved by now.) There are links to support telephone numbers here.
Apple will charge you the standard retail price for Lion (e.g. US$29.99 in the US) and supply you with a "redeem code" for the App Store. That is entered by going to the Featured category in the toolbar, and clicking Redeem under the Quick Links heading on the right side. Once your code is redeemed, Lion will be added to the list of purchases for your Apple ID, and you can download and install it.
If you had already bought Lion for use on another computer, you can re-download it from the Purchases list in App Store, but there might be a couple of catches:
    1. Some people have found that Lion was added to their list of hidden purchases. You need to unhide it first. Do this by going to your Account page (under Quick Links, or "View My Account" under the Store menu in the menu bar). If you have hidden purchases, there will be a "View Hidden Purchases" link, and from there you can unhide Lion.
    2. If you are running Lion and want to redownload the installer on that computer, you may need to hold down the Option key when clicking on the Purchases heading in the toolbar, to enable the download button for Lion.

  • I have 2009 IMAC installed with latest OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. But I don't have Ilife ,I can't find from my system.OS X 10.8 normally coming with Ilife ? It's true. Then how can I find Ilife?

I have 2009 early Imac installed with latest OS X Mountain Lion. But I can't find Ilife from my system. Normally Mountain Lion coming with Ilife loaded, it's true? But I can't find Ilife applications. Pls, advice me.

It is my understanding that iLife is not included with Mountain Lion, but with a new Mac... You only get it pre-installed as part of a hardware purchase.
I am not an expert, but hopefully someone else will be able to confirm this, and if correct it means you wil have to purchase iLife seperately from the Mac App Store.
    Sorry!
Update: If you visit the online Apple store and start to order a new Mac, you will see that iLife is not included and can be added as an extra purchase.
You will have to purchase this seperatley.

i can't boot windows in my iMac late 2011 as my internal cd reader does not work

Which copy or version of Windows? and how where was it purchased?
my window installed itself perfectly on another computer.
One copy and you want to activate on two computers?
With 16GB, it will try to create 16GB hibernation file, 24GB page file, and need 20-30GB for the OS, plus room for temp, cache, applications, 9GB just temp to install SP1 update(s).
did you create 80GB or larger partition?
also, some macs with ssd + hard drive have issues, and of course you need Windows 7 64-bit home premium (Pro to use more).
OWC has up to 32GB, not cheap.

  • Can I boot up an intel imac running os lion from a snowleopard install disk so that I can run my old power pc software

Can I boot up an intel imac running os lion from a snowleopard install disk so that I can run my old power pc software

If the Snow Leopard install disk came with or otherwise is compatible with your iMac, you can boot from it, but that won't allow you to run software (other than the utilities that are part of the installation set). You will have to install Snow Leopard, either on a partition on the iMac's internal hard drive or on an external drive, before you will be able to run applications.

You can transfer photos outside of iTunes. I do it all the time. THat said, i have a 50/50 success rate with them. I'd avoid sandisk and kingston, their bundled software triggers the 'too much power' warning.
I've had mixed luck with lexar, some work, some don't.
I did have good luck with an older 4 gig geek squad one.
Look for drives without software on them, without bright LED lights and I haven't gotten any larger than 4 gig to work, but that may just be me.
For a less troublesome way? h onestly, I use a SD card that I've formatted with the DCIM folder. I've never had one of them trigger the 'too much power' warning. Just make sure they're not SDXC. those don't work.

Call Apple's online store's telesales agents: 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775. For Lion you'll get a redemptions code via e-mail and need to DL from the Mac Apple Store (requires SL 10.6.6+).

  • Is there any Blu-ray Player Software compatible with my iMac OS X Mountain Lion?

I want to watch a Blu-ray Movie on my iMac(OS X Mountain Lion), so I need a best Blu-ray Player Software.

You need third party software, Macgo Blu-ray Player can deal with the work you mentioned. As for the Mac Moutain Lion(10.8), I check their website and it is said that the Mac OS 10.8 are supported.
Refers to their product page: http://www.macblurayplayer.com/features.htm
