I can't bring up iTunes or my iPod

I got a message the other day, something about iTunes no longer running on Windows. I clicked No about reinstalling, figuring I'd lose stuff.
I can no longer bring up iTunes on my computer, either via a shortcut or the Start menu. I've reinstalled both iTunes and Quicktime (several boots) but it still doesn't come up.
My iPod displays the "Do not disconnect" message continually (non-blinking), whether or not it is connected to the computer. When I connect it, I get the "ding" indicating that the computer recognizes it's been attached. However, the iPod doesn't charge and, when disconnected, can't play music.
I'd appreciate you suggestions of how to recover from this problem.
TIA,
Roy

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

  • Just downloaded an audio book in itunes, it didn't download it completely and now I can even bring up itunes at all?

I downloaded an audio book this morning, it did not download completely.  I came back to bring back up iTunes to see if the book was completely downloaded and not I can't even bring up iTunes?

    Hello robbinredbreast,
I'd recommend putting the iPod into 'manual mode.' This will need to be done from the computer that it's normally synced to in order to prevent removing existing content, but it can then be connected to your computer, and you can add the audio book without removing the current library on the device.

  • Can I bring the music from my ipod to my new computer?

My old computer crashed and I lost everything. When I plug my ipod in to my new computer it ask if I want to replace the music on my ipod with the music on my new computer (right now there is no music on here). Is there a way I can bring my music from my ipod to my new computer? Thanks

You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    PodPlus Windows Only
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive on Windows and retrieving your songs posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system. However if your iPod is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Can't connect to itunes with my iPod (touch).

My IPod is disabled (I haven't used it in quite awhile, don't know why it's disabled) and is asking me to connect to itunes. When I try to, I get an error on itunes saying "iTunes could not connect to the iPod "Nathan's IPod" because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
...Yet I can't because I'm being to to connect to itunes for my ipod to be unlocked.
Any solutions to this odd paradox? Thanks!

  • I can't open up itunes unless my ipod is connected! Help!

For some reason I can't open up itunes without having my ipod connected. It just sits there on my desktop no matter how many times I click it but if I connect my ipod it comes up pretty quickly. It also doesn't have the correct icon anymore, it has a picture of a white page with the right corner folded and a blue arrow in the bottom left corner, the icon when something is loading. I updated to 7.3 but no difference. Help please!

You need iTunes version 11 for iOS 7.
iTunes version 11 requires OS X 10.6.8 or later...
Click on the Apple icon.. Top left in Finder...

  • How can I view the iTunes folder under iPod in My Computer? (transfering)

I selected "Manually manage music" in iTunes under the iPod summery but still can't see the iTunes folder when I select my iPod in My Computer. Can anyone help please!

Manually manage means you can drag stuff into or delete stuff out of the iPod from WITHIN iTunes.
The area where that stuff is stored on the iPod is hidden from normal view if you look at the iPod in My Computer.
If you want to see those hidden files and folders, see this older post by MacMuse...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=797432&#797432
Otherwise stick with iTunes for moving stuff in and out of the iPod.

    No.
You can sync the ipad to itunes on your computer.

  • How can I set up itunes with one ipod and two laptops?

My boyfriend gave me an ipod a few months ago and he let me set up itunes on his laptop so everything is there. now that i have my own laptop i want everything thats on his laptop on mine. The itunes part i mean. but i don't know how can anyone help me?

    Do as this article says:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
That will make your iPod the syncing computer.
You can only have one syncing computer/iTunes library for apps. and photos. You can however, manually sync music and vides from multiple computer/library if you sync manually. See that topic of:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad

  • Can't connect to iTunes from my iPod Touch or from my Computer!!

Since yesterday, I have been having trouble connecting to the iTunes store from my iPod and computer. I can search for apps and whatever on both devices, but when it comes time to download them, on the iPod it just says "Waiting.." for a while, then it says "cannot connect to the iTunes store"
If I try to download an app from iTunes on the computer(Windows Vista, HP), it'll go to the iTunes store, I can search for things all fine and dandy and when I get an app I want to download and click it and type in my password to download it, it'll say, "Accessing iTunes store..." then it says "We could not complete your iTunes store request. The internet connection has timed out"
My internet connection is perfectly fine, working just great. I've tried everything it suggests on the Apple site, from changing the hosts abd firewall settings. NOTHING IS WORKING!
I'd really appreciate some help. This is very frustrating. Holidays are supposed to be happy times, right? :'(
Thanks in advance for any help!!

I don't know what's up with the translation window thing appearing.  Anyway...
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • Can't Play Shared ITunes Files On Ipod Only

Ok, I've looked at all the shared files posts, but couldn't find this scenario. I've also looked at the how-to shared threads.
My fiance and I are running two Ipods (one 30G Video and a 4G Mini) on one PC w/ Win XP under 2 different profiles and two different ITunes Accts. I've enabled sharing under both profiles.
Our music is not in the shared folder and we can add files to each others ITunes Manually, and that is fine. (we didn't want them together)
She can add actual ACC files that I downloaded from ITunes and play them on her Ipod, no problem.
BUT, i can add her song to my playlist and can play those ACC files fine through ITunes, but they just won't play on my Ipod, any ideas? It just skips over them... I don't even get a message for authorization...
Anything else I download from her ITunes playlist (like cd, mp3 and limewire files) all work fine and play on my Ipod, just not the ITunes files she downloaded and purchased...
Any ideas, this is driving me nuts...
    PC   Windows XP

Try deauthorizing both of the accounts (from the Store menu in iTunes). Then Restore the iPod, and re-authorize both accounts in iTunes. Then make sure you can play songs from both accounts in iTunes, hook up the iPod and sync them over.

  • Can't connect to Itunes store from Ipod via Wifi

    Hey guys,
Everything works fine on my PC but when i connect to wifi i just cannot connect to the itunes store from the Ipod itself. The internet is working great on Safari. Can someone please help!
I have an Ipod touch 2nd gen with the latest software.
    Thanks

why would the network settings need to be reset? I can connect to the internet just fine.
I am the ISP so i know theres no problems BTW. All ports are wide open throughout my subscriber network.

  • Can play music in itunes and on ipod in imovie says not authorized

Hi I have purchased several songs in itunes and when I attempt to add them to movies in imovie it says that the computer is not authorized. I authorize the computer and itunes states it was successful return to imovie and then get the same message. I have deauthorized and reauthorized the computer and still no luck.
    Any thoughts?

Yes, I have this problem as well. I have synced and re-synced an entire library three times now (which is not easy when you have almost 10k tracks to upload) and the same issue occurs on some tracks, but not others. I can't really see a commonality amongst the files to figure out why the ipod won't play the songs. They play fine on Itunes and when the unit itself is hooked up to my computer, but not if you are just listening to it from the Ipod. Strange...hope somebody can answer this question soon...the problem is really irritating.
