I can't burn discs

I have a MacBook Pro with iTunes installed on it. I can't get itunes to burn a playlist to CD. Initially I attributed the problem to the Apple Superdrive in my computer, so I got a brand new external DVD RW drive no luck. I have burned plenty of discs before. I have followed every direction. The computer recognizes both drives. The only thing new is upgraded itunes software. any suggestions?
Thanks

I have been having on going problems burning CD’s in iTunes for YEARS, and I know I am not the only one. I get the error message above. Having checked the forum at the time, and posted for help, I am know there is no real solution except to change brand of disc.
Thing is, now I can’t get ANY brands to work. I’ve been through Verbatim, Maxell, JVC, Sony, but none work. The only brand that would work were TDK audios which I can no longer find anywhere.
I know its not the burner, as Toast works fine, and I know I am not alone. Anyone got any ideas?
Even after years Apple seem to be blanking this question. It’s very frustrating not being able to burn my purchased itunes downloads to disc.

To anyone who is interested I think I may have found a possible solution. When you put a blank disc in the drive, wait about 30-60 seconds or so for it to stop spinning before burning.
This seems to work. It's a bit sticky but eventually works. I tried both TDK & Maxwell discs and 9 out of 11 worked. Absolutely no reason why the other 2 didn't, but it's a lot better than none.

However, iTunes writes CD's normally.  It appears that only writing CD's from the finder does not work, so it is not the CD drive.

Not sure this is related, however, after Facebook went down for about 20 min, soon after so did my Gmail (6) , 1 iCloud account(s). It's been hit and miss on downloading my email, however if I went to the websites I finally was able to get email. I then tried to see if my settings were correct and it appears all my passwords looked shorter than they really are. I reenter that information and voila, it's working again. Not a clue why those issues would have triggered my settings, however I know others have been complaining as well.

  • Can't burn Disc from iTunes after Microsoft fix

Okay ... long process to get iTunes working and I am almost there. Here is the saga ...
I upgraded to iTunes 6.0 and after the upgrade neither of my CD/DVD drives would work. After surfing the internet, I found the solution on Microsoft.com, which was to delete some specific upper and lower filters from the registry and then reboot the computer. I did this and everything worked great. I was able to use iTunes and both my CD/DVD drives worked. But now .... I cannot burn any discs from iTunes, (I can burn from other places), it says,"cannot find recording disc" It will let me upload CDs into iTunes. Here is my CD diagnostics:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Dell Computer Corporation Precision WorkStation 350
    iTunes 6.0.4.2
    CD Driver 2.0.4.3

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

The last failed audio CD burn had error code -128(0xffffff80). It happened on drive on -128(0xffffff80) media at speed 0X.

    hi TwinMom!
hmmmm. was this the solution you used?
(MS) CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
i've seen a few follow up problems after applying that technique ... but usually they tend to involve this error message:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs & DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
what you're getting is still consistent with that (in a sense), because you don't have any itunes-related filter entries showing up in your diagnostics.
so, let's start trying some techniques that have a reasonable track record against that error -43 that's showing up in your CD diagnostics.
first, try a reboot and repair. reboot the PC (very important), and then do a repair install of itunes. go to your Add/Remove programs, select itunes, click "change/remove" and then select "repair".
does that get rid of the -43?
can you burn a CD after doing that?
    love, b

Cannot burn discs. Error message: "The disc can't be burned because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media". Then the blank disc is ejected.

    Two main possible causes:

    2. Dirty lens. Try cleaning the superdrive with a proprietary CD/DVD lens cleaner that uses tiny brushes.

Yes, you can check supported blank discs from the following link:

  • Can't burn disc; need workaround

    Hi, folks:
This is slightly off-topic-ish, but is IS Mac-related, so I'm hoping some smart bean here will have an idea.
Here's the problem I'm trying to solve: I installed a game on my PS3 and it corrupted the drive. I installed the same game on my other PS3, and it corrupted the drive. (I sense a pattern here.) That second PS3 was given to me by my best friend before he killed himself, and contains a fortune in games, as well as hundreds and hundreds of hours of game saves. The PlayStation's own repair software is lame, lame, lame. Players have taken their drives out and repaired them using Windows boxes. I don't have access to one.
But I can use Unix! Yay! I'll just download one, install it, and repair my discs, and then I'll be a happy girl!
Boy, what a nightmare this has turned out to be. All Unix distros are .iso files, and I can't burn a single one to disc ("no mountable file system," "invalid argument," or else I got a couple of files onto a disc that are .efi files that're small that don't look as if they're complete installs). Found a terrific page telling me how to use the Terminal to get the files onto a USB stick, and I almost squirted, it seemed so easy! Alas, that's yielded a big fat goose egg, too: "Operation not supported."
I've tried Ubuntu, Lubuntu, and Mint. I have no reason to believe that any other flavor will work, because invalid argument, no mountable file system, operation not supported.
This shouldn't be that hard! I'm almost out of tears at this point. All I want to do it to repair my (FAT) disc. My Mac is old (2007 dual 2.8 Ghz) but it still oughtta be capable of doing this. I'm not trying to do anything fancy. ALL I want to do is to attempt to repair the one disc (and if it works, I'll tackle the other one) and then be done with it and get back to my gaming. I'm a disabled vet, meaning I haven't the resources to take it to a proper repair place (and I prolly just have a couple bad sectors. Most players do who've experienced what I have).
Has anyone got any useful info for me? I'm at my wit's end. I'd be soooo grateful for some advice to get me going again.
TThanks very much for anything you can offer.
    BInky

  • Can't burn discs in iTunes or like pulling teeth.

I have posted on this subject a couple times now, and I read that I am not alone in this suffering. I receive the infamous error 4000 when trying to burn "any" music files from iTunes. What really frustrates me is that I can't even burn the music I purchase from "The Store" which as I understand in the user/purchase agreement is my "right"
I have read through 40 pages of this forum about this issue and I have yet to see a fix for it. Is there a fix? I also see that others who suffer the same fate do not have an answer either. This issue is only related to itunes as I can burn in any other burning software that exists. I have taken many steps through the computer manufacturer (whom is also aware of this issue) only to discover that this is purely an iTunes problem. I have contacted iTunes support directly and have had no response regarding this issue, hence this rant. The only suggestions that I have seen are to alter system files that may or may not work. Why should I or anyone else have to do this when so much other software (for burning CDs) just seems to work?
I would very much like to continue to use iTunes and by association the iTunes Store as I find this to be a convenient way to purchase music however, what good is it if I can’t burn this “purchased” music which I mentioned is my right.
The only positive thing for me is that I am a stockholder and have made a few dollars from Apple, so maybe it’s a wash.
Support for iTunes in Windows appears rather dismal to me right now.

This is also my NUMBER 1 complaint about this POS ipod and itunes. I paid my money for songs and have the right to transfer these files to ANY format I choose for personal use. NOT ALL OF WANT TO BUY EVRY F'N ACCESSORY OUT THERE TO PLAY ITUNES IN OUR CARS OR ON HOME STEREOS. WE WANT TO BURN F'N CD'S TO USE IN OUR CARS AND ON OUR HOME STEREOS. Someone needs to correct this issue! I F'N bout the file and didnt pirate the file I have the right to use it in anyway i see fit for personal use! Like a dumb *** I went out and bought three ipods for my whole clan . Only to find the nightmare of having to set up three different libraries. Then the three different music libraries makes it were if one buys a song on itunes you cant move this file to another ipod and play it. Only they can or if you make the mistake and buy a song on a different system it wont transfer to your home itunes library.
AND EVERYONE KNOW THESE PIECES OF **** CRASH AND LOOSE THEIR FILE EVRY OTHER F'N DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My RANT and what a waste of money this hardware and software is. GOD I WISH WINDOWS WOULD COME OUT WITH SOMETHINGS SO I CAN THROW ALL OF THESE IN THE TRASH!!!!!!

  • Idvd4...can't burn disc

    Hello
I've been trying to burn a photo slideshow with music that was put together in imovie. It seems to be fine in idvd but when I try to burn it it doesn't recognise the fact that I've put a blank dvd in. It appears to be the right type of blank (maxell 4.7 gb 1-8x speed) so why can I not get past this point?
    Any help gratefully received.

    Hi Stephan:
Bear with me here, let's be sure that you actually have a SuperDrive in your mac.
Look in the System Profiler and check under ATA. Does it say something like this?
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-825:
    Manufacturer: MATSHITA
    Model: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-825
    Revision: DBN7
    Serial Number:
    Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
    Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
If it does, then are you getting any specific errors when you try to insert the disk? Does it actually tell you to insert a disk?

  • Can not burn disc

When I try to share my imovie 6 with idvd it renders everything but when it reaches the multiplexing & burning point it quits. I also can not make a magic movie in idvd. I can however make a one step dvd but only after a computer re start. I have dumped programs and re installed to no avail.
Is this a hardware or software problem? Thank you for any input.

    Hi
    Then You got PLENTY.
When not knowing what to do.
There are a set of things to test:
    1. Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk: It should have 25Gb or more. This is especially important when running iDVD.
iDVD can’t address any other hard disk as scratch-disk so space is of uttermost importance.
    2. The Hard disk is untidy:
Repair Permissions (Apple Disc Util tool) - Run this
Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool) - To run this You need to start from a CD/DVD or external hard disk.
    3. Delete iDVD pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and have a re-try
    4. Let Your Mac turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help.
    5. Program miss-match:
iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.3.9 AND QuickTime 6.5.2 - is OK
iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4 - is OK
iDVD 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4 - is OK
    6. UPDATES - is important: iLifeSupport8.1.1.dmg is important for running iLife08 bundle.
    7. iDVD (08) Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    8. Mac OS X.5 (Leopard) - at least iDVD 1 to 4 - don’t work any more
    9. Trying to collect info on. Leopard system:
    iDVD08 - - - - - - - - - - not working - - - -> Should be soluble
    iDVD 6 - - - - - - - - - - not working - - - -> Should be soluble
    iDVD 5 - - - - - - - - - - not working - - - -> Don’t bother - will not work
    iDVD 4 or previous - - - - not working - - - -> Don’t bother - will not work
