I can't buy an Apple TV?

I have a Sony Wega 42 inch flat screen TV, but it only has DVI inputs. And no optical audio input. The guy at the store said there was absolutely no way to connect the new Apple TV to my Television and he could not sell it to me.
Is there no workaround for this?

No I'm not. I'm just using the regular television speakers for audio. Thank you, by the way, for your kind and polite reply, as opposed to the rather curt and abrupt one above. My TV's only five years old. I understand that in the world of some people that's a real relic, but for my family, such an item was a big purchase, and replacing it now seems kind of absurd. It's an HD television and it gets a great picture. Who knew Apple was going to come up with something which would have no downward compatibility at all?

    VGA is an analog signal HDMI is digital. A simple cable would not work you would need something that converts the analog signal to digital.
    A search of VGA to HDMI turned up a few possibilities but nothing specific. In any case the picture on the TV will not be very good given the source.
    You should check to see if the TV has a VGA input. Some TV's have a computer connection port and this is usually VGA.

    While I don't know about the second hand machine consideration, Applecare needs to be bought during the first year while standard warranty coverage is in effect. Once that expires, you can't buy Applecare for a system.

    The online Apple Store has a limit of two iPhone 4S units per purchaser. I would suspect that the physical Apple Stores have the same limit. But as Tim said, you need to call the Apple Store from which you would like to purchase and ask, though again, they almost certainly will not have any in stock.

    While in CA, the easiest thing to get would be the pin adapter to convert the US pins to fit the UK socket at any hardware store. The iPhone power adapter can handle the voltage difference without any problems.

    super simple: if you are in the USA for any reason, and are not far from the Canadian border, come and visit us Canadians in any large city (Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal), we have plenty of unlocked iPhone 4.
    In fact, all our iPhones (starting with the latest 3GS and the iPhone 4 model) are now unlocked. You do have to pay full price, which is no different than the US value at the moment, really. But we have higher taxes (approx. 14-15% depending where).
    You should have seen the Americans drive past the border when the iPhone 4 was released here, it was funny. They really do hate the exclusivity with AT&T over there...
    Half the lineup on day 1 was a bunch of international and US "visitors" haha

    Apple is not officially selling unlocked model 6 iPhones yet. The T-Mobile no contract phone is unlocked however. You then need to go to an AT&T company store or AT&T reseller and get a new SIM (the 4S SIM won't fit).
