I can't change "Connecting Camera Opens..." in Preferences

I'm running iPhoto 9.1.1 in Snow Leopard 10.6.7, but this problem was present in the last version of iPhoto. I don't know if I installed a plugin a long time ago, but I am now unable to change the "Connecting Camera Opens..." iPhoto preference under General. It shows a blank file icon and is unresponsive when clicked. See screenshot.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Although that thread was different, it gave me an idea.
I decided to move the entire Preferences folder to the desktop and noticed that the problem was solved and I could once again edit the camera preference in iPhoto. However, I'm not going to trash over 1,500 pref files just to solve this problem. Nor am I going to comb through each one. So here's what I did:
I labeled everything in the ~/Library/Preferences folder red and moved half to the desktop. Then I launched iPhoto and checked to see if the problem was still there. If it was, I uncolored the pref files on the desktop, put them back, and checked half of the next batch. I repeated this process of halving batches of files until I found the offending files...
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/<see screenshot below for trashed files>
Since there were 340+ files in the ByHost folder, I just decided to trash all of these pictured. AND IT WORKED!

  • How can I change Connection parameters when promoting to Production ???

    Hi Everyone !
Do you know how can I change Connection Framework parameters in a Webdynpro Application? The app was deployed in TEST, now I want to move it to Production...
In my application I am using Connection Framework to connecto to a BAPI.
    The connection was created using
SAP Connectivity > SAP Enterprise Connector.
I provided connection parameters for a TEST environment (Host name, system number, client, logon name...).
I deployed the application in TEST, but how can I change these parameters prior to promote it to Production? Were and how do I fill the new parameter values?
    Many Thanks,
    Silvio Hirashiki

    Hi Silvio,
AFAIK, you need to provide JCO connection to proxy port type and all connection specific data is there. (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ed/897483ea5011d6b2e800508b6b8a93/frameset.htm). You can use configuration files for this or RFC destination.
You only need to regenerate proxy when interfaces of functional modules are dufferent for TEST and Production.
BTW, why are you using SAP EC instead of adaptive RFC model in WD application?
    Best regards, Maksim Rashchynski.

    Hi,
I have copied a number of SSID packages from a live server to my test server and am trying to get them up and running but I have a problem with the connection. The only thing that is different is the server name. I decided to keep the same connection in the connection manager as it is referenced in a dtsConfig file. I changed the dtsConfig file to reference the new servername [Data Source= new test server name]. I also check my paths and they are pointing to the correct config locations etc.
I found this post which was similar to my problem but I still get problems with the connection
    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1319961&SiteID=1
I updated the connection by changing the server name in the actual connection. I did this from the data flow tab in the Connection Managers sections (MS Visual Studio). Right clicked - Edit - changed the name of the server name to my test server and selected the database. Test connection was fine, and saved this.
Once I saved this, the connection string changed to my current test server in the properties of the connection. However when I run the package I get the following error:
Error: 0xC0202009 at ReportsImport, Connection manager "myconnectionstring": SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.

Error: 0xC0024107 at Myprocess import from file: There were errors during task validation.
So even if I change the existing connection properties and save and Build my package again, my connection properties (connectionstring, servername etc) all revert back to its original data source when I re-open the package. Simply it does not seem to be saving the connection properties i put in.
What am I doing wrong or how can I change the existing connection manager to look at the new server. The database is  the same and I have full admin privilege on the server.
I don't want to recreate my packages as there are alot and they are not simple.
After changing the connection properties, saving and reloading I get a connection error. But this is because it is not retaining the new connection manger setting i entered.
Incidentally - I created a new SSID to perform a simple connection and write to the the server and it was OK so there is no problem with actually seeing the my test server.
    Thanks in advance

Yes, the package is in visual studio and I have executed it. There are no errors but in the output i have the error message about my connection. My dtsConfig file is added to the project in the 'Package Configuration Organizer' and path and files are correct. This is the output error:
Error: 0xC020801C at xx import from file, xxReportsImport [79]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER.  The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "myconnectionname" failed with error code 0xC0202009.  There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.
I will try and run it using dtexec.exe. if I have two config files do i use
    dtsexec.exe /f <packagename> /conf <configfile> /conf <secondconfigfile>

  • How can I change the File-- Open menu item?

In Bridge CS4, I want an option to open a selected JPEG photo in Photoshop CS4, which I believe would be the File-->Open command.  However, in that menu item I only have the option of selecting ACDSee Pro to open a file with.
Is there a way to change this menu item so that I can select Photoshop CS4 to open a JPEG with?
    Thanks,
    John

Thanks John.  Go into the Windows Folder options and associating CS4 with JPEG fixed the problem.  In fact, when I do File-->Open now in Bridge CS4, all of my photo editors appear on the list.

  • Can I change IPhone Camera 3GS pixel settings from 2048x1536 to a smaller 640x480 pixel setting? So that all of my photos will be taken at the new and desired lower pixel ratio?

Hi. My Apple IPhone 3GS Camera takes pictures at 2048x1536 pixels = TOO LARGE..
Every IPhone picture that I transfer to my computer must be resized on my computer.
My desired sizes approx after it is 700x525 or approximate near that.
Most of my EBay or Forums require the smaller pixel or MB sized photos.
Can I change the resolution my IPhone 3GS shoots at?
So that all photos can be shot at 640x480 or approximate near that?
Is resetting the IPhone 3GS camera to a smaller pixel size than 2048x1536?
If not, is there a permantent setting inside my IPhone 3GS that I can set the
export pixel output TO ALL EXPORTS to my computers?
I want to have it set as a command and not have to change pictures individually.
*** Maybe you know of options or possibilities I do not know about?
    Please help. Thank you

I'm reading this post in the iPhoto for iOS forum. Since your issue seems specific to an iPhone perhaps if you posted your question in an iPhone forum you'll get some assistance.

  • Ibook command key changed command   comma opens finder preferences?

My kids were playing with my ibook 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and somehow they changed the command key to command + comma. Now when the command key is pressed the finder preferences or if in an application is open the preferences open this also happens when the comma key is pressed. I've looked everywhere on the web but can't find and answer.

Does this happen with both Command keys ?.
Either way : start in Recovery mode then choose 'Get help online' (there's no need to connect to a network)
    Safari should open.
Press the command key : does preferences open, as before ?.
If so, it would seem to be a hardware problem, since the limited Recovery system & included Safari can't be modified by settings changed when started normally.
Restart your computer to return to normal mode.

  • Can't change audio output in System Preferences

I have installed an M-Audio Firewire Solo interface on my Mac Mini and have made it my default audio output device in System Preferences. When I go to change the audio output back to "Headphones" (the built-in output on the computer), it will not allow me to do so. I click on Headphones, close the window, reopen the window, and the Firewire Solo output is still selected. I'm guessing there's an easy solution to this?

Welcome to the Mac and Apple Discussions.
Open the Preferences folder in the Library folder on the hard drive and look for the files com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist and com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist and perhaps any others. Move them to the desktop and restart or log out and in. The system will rebuild them when it starts up again. You might try removing them one at a time so you are able to identify which is the corrupt .plist file, if in fact it is a .plist problem.
If that doesn’t fix anything, look for similar files with .audio.xxxxxx.plist in your Users Preferences folder: Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences and try removing those. The .plist files usually can be removed without causing problems as they are automatically rebuilt. If it does cause a problem, you can move the originals back to their respective folders from the desktop, replacing the ones that were reconstructed after the restart and you’ll be back to the way it was before you removed them.
And then I’m out of ideas. But keep posting until you get it solved. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on this forum. If you don’t get any response for a while, respond to your own post with the word “Bump” to get it to the top of the stack again.

  • Can't change Desktop background in System Preferences

Hi. When I try to change my desktop background, either by right-clicking on the desktop or by opening System Preferences, the screen for Desktop options is blank. None of the options show up, grayed out or otherwise. While in System Preferences, if I click on Screen Saver, everything there works fine. But the button for Desktop becomes grey and I can't click on it.
I've tried Repair Permissions and this didn't work. I've seen similar posts here, but they don't seem to have the same problem I do, nothing freezes up, the Desktop screen is just blank. Do you have any ideas?
    Thanks!
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    1. OK, let's try some more trashing: 1. Quit System Preferences if it is open.
    2. Open your Home > Library > Caches folder, then trash the following two files therein:
    - com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    - com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache
    3. Trash the file
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
in your Home > Library > Preferences folder.
    4. Trash the file
    com.apple.systempreferences.xxx.plist
in your Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost folder, where xxx is an alphanumeric string.
    5. Empty Trash.
    6. Launch System Preferences and see if the problem is resolved.2. You wrote"I still have my Desktop Pictures folder."I presume you mean the Macintosh HD > Library > Desktop Pictures folder I cited previously. How about the contents of that folder? It should contain five folders:• Abstract
    • Black & White
    • Nature
    • Plants
    • Solid Colorsand a collection of .jpg images for a total of 28 objects.
    3. I know you earlier said you ran Repair Permissions. I presume the permissions on Macintosh HD > Library > Desktop Pictures are:You can: Read & Write
    Owner: system
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: Read OnlyYes?
    4. If none of the above sorts it out, let's see if it's isolated to your account. Do you have a second user account defined on your system? If so, log in to it and see if the problem happens there. If it does, it is probably a system-wide problem. If not, it is something with your user account. If you don't have a second account on your system, you can create a new one using System Preferences > Accounts. See "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Adding a new user account to your computer."
    5. Immediately after the problem occurs — i.e. you open Desktop & Screen Saver preferences and either cannot select Desktop or Desktop is blank — check the ends of these Console logs for clues. Let's see if console can tell us if the Desktop preference pane is corrupted.
    6. Do you have any personal Web space? If so, can you take a screen shot of the problem and upload it to your personal Web space? If so, post a link back here to the image. It may help if I can see what you're seeing, though I think I understand it from your description, "a picture is worth..." etc.
    7. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
    8. To what was / is your Desktop image presently set? One of the Apple collections or images? Something from your iPhoto Library?
FYI: I number my points so you can respond by number.
    Good luck!

  • Yikes! Can't see connected camera...

Oh, no! How screwed am I?
Just back from a shoot and suddenly my camcorder/firewire/computer connection is acting up: Camera says “DV in” when wired up, but software doesn’t see camera, and worse, Firewire drive is unaccessible (can’t open folders or navigate in Finder) until DV firewire cable is pulled; other Finder and app functions are stalled, too, when DV cable is in. The drive didn’t even show up when I booted up with the camera attached via rear FW port...until I pulled the camera. I’ll try another cable, of course, when I can find one, but could it be the culprit when that “DV In” shows up in camera screen?
    Arrgh!
Appreciate any ideas (I already pulled batteries and reset camera...Canon GL2) It seems to record and play back fine.
    Thanks,
    dc

It's not your cable. I tried hooking up my GL2 directly to my computer a few years ago back when I was still using FCP 4.5 HD and I had the same result as you're having now. FCP seems to hate that camera no matter what version you're running. All I can suggest at this point is to NOT use a FW drive on the same BUS as the camera. Also make sure you've not changed any of the GL2's settings since the last time you used it as a deck. The reason everything stalls when you connect is because FCP has found your DV device but it can't communicate with it. Try FW basic in the FCP setup and see if that solves it (a guess).
Since you've stated that you've had success capturing using the GL2 previously, I would be very interested to know what the fix is.

  • Can't change connection in configuration of application module

I've trouble in changing a connection in a configuration of an application module.
To reproduce this do the following:
    - create two or more connections (in my case: to different databases on different servers, one of them via JDBC-ODBC Bridge)
    - create an empty BC4J project
    - create an application module using one of the connections
    - right click the am and select configurations
    - in the configuration manager select the (default) configuration (usually AppModuleLocal)
    - select "edit"
    - in the "Connection Type" section select "JDBC URL"
    - Change the Connection Name to point to a different connection
    - close the connection manager
    - repeat the steps from (*)
    - repeat the steps from (*) once more
=> you'll be unable to change the connection back to the connection used first. You can change it in the configuration manager, but if you reopen the configuration manager you'll see the old connection again.

You can edit the bc4j.xcfg and change the connation name within the configuration. I will try to reproduce and fix this bug.

    Hi,
If you based your folder on the database object then you can change the type in the database (but it may effect other applications using this DB object).
Other way to get what you need is to create a new item in the folder with the following calculation:
    To_date( transaction_date)
and then set your parameter and condition with this new item rather than the original one.
Note that if the transaction_date is indexed then after wrapping it with the to_date it will not use the index.
