I can't change my apple id to an email address

Thanks Roger! I understand that it is an Apple ID already that makes sense. That "non Apple " address however, is compromised and I do not wish to use it anymore and will be shutting it down. I find it strange that I must only identify a "Non Apple" address as my "primary email address". I have an alias address on the account and I can sign in using it as my Apple ID. i don't see the Logic in forcing someone to use another email provider as your primary mail service. (I know I can set up alias's and use them under an Apple domain, but the primary email will still be there and I understand used for any account communications from Apple.) Any further comments on this situations?

Your music will only be where you put it. It does not magically appear in other places. Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some coutries:

I am in the same boat as all of you and have done lots of digging on this issue around the Apple Support Communities. Over the past three days, I have spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple trying to get creative about how to get around this issue (delete all my accounts and start over, etc.). Unfortunately, the bottom line message Apple gave me was this, "The ONLY way to use your @me as your primary email address is if you set it up that way at the very beginning. If you use a different email as your first primary address, you can never switch to your @me account unless you go and create a NEW @me account and start from scratch that way." So disappointed.

Here are the steps I have taken and the results:
Changed my Apple ID with new email address.
Changed my iCloud with above new email address.
NOW - Apple ID appears correct in AppStore Settings, iCloud and AppStore*
If I scroll to bottom of screen in *App Store/Featured, I can see that the Apple ID is my new email.
Upon “updating” Apple ID reflects OLD email.
Deleted accounts, re-added accounts.
Signed out and signed in with new UN/Email
Issue remains the same.

To migrate your data to a new iCloud account go to Settings>iCloud and turn off all synced data (contacts, calendars, etc.), when prompted choose to keep the data on your phone. After everything is set to off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. Next, create the new iCloud account on your phone and turn on syncing for contacts, calendars, etc again. If prompted, choose Merge. This will upload your data to the new iCloud account.

I am trying to use an Apple EMail address as my primary email address and I am unable to change it. I previously had another "nonapple" address identified as my Apple ID and Primary Email address. Now I apparantly can only change it to another "non Apple" related email address. It seems stupid to have to go to Google and use thier email address to make a change.

How can I change my Apple ID into my MobileMe address

Just had a realyl funny chat with the iCloud support. totally useless...
My situation: I already had an Apple ID for iTunes etc. Now I registered for iCloud and wanted to use it also as eMail Service with an @me eMail Adress. Registered for iCloud, was asked to select a nice @me email adress, everything worked fine. But: My Aplle ID is stil lthe email of my "old" email provider. Woudnt make sense if I switch to the @me Adress. So lets chage it. But does not work.
Now it seems Apple wants me to maintain my gmail account, not allowing me to change my Apple ID into the new @me.com email address. Can this be true?
Does anyone know what I can do?

Same problem here, typed a wrong adress, was to eager and missed the fill in after @. So my emailadress is @me.com A not excisting emailadress

I no longer have my apple login email address as it was associated with my previous job. I can't change it over to my current email address as this was my secondary. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks for the question. It sounds like you wish to change the email address associated with your Apple ID, however the address you wish to use is already in use as your rescue email address. To accomplish your goal, we’ll need to first remove your rescue email address:

You'll be asked to answer 2 of your 3 security questions before you can make any modifications. If you are unable to remember your answers, you can choose to send an email to your rescue email to reset your security questions.
After you've validated your identity by correctly answering your security questions, click Edit to the right of your rescue email address.
Once you've finished editing your rescue email address, click the Save button directly below the email field.
You might need to log out and back into your account after removing it as your rescue email address before you can try using it as your primary email address.

It's a little tricky to move data from one iCloud account to another but it can be done. But what makes you think you have 2 iCloud accounts.

Changed my apple id to new email address and now iTunes doesn't recognize either.

I changed ISP and had to change my apple id (it was my old email address, back when you had to use an email address as apple id.) Now, iTunes will not recognize my new apple id or my old one. How can I fix this? It won't let me do anything with the apps on my iPhone.

I dont belie you can change your Apple ID, but you can add and delete email addresses that it recognized...
Goto https://appleid.apple.com/ and sign into your account... then you can edit the information...

I recently upgraded to Windows 8 and 8.1 and now i cant get certain music from my devices to show up in itunes.
I have music on my ipod that is plugged in to my car from my original acct that is not showing up in itunes on my PC. Its like its invisible. the only thing that i can think of is that my original Apple ID is different than my current Apple ID. Apple forced me to change in maybe 2009 to a new ID to my email address.
Windows 8 seems to have issues with DRM or something..its like my different iTunes accts (user id...to email address) has hosed the music i originally purchased from Apple. Which is really not cool.
What do i need to do to resolve this?

Apple did not force the user to do anything.
What really happened? Was the Apple ID updated to a new email address or was a new Apple ID created?
If the former, simply sign out of iTunes on the computer and devices, then sign in with the new credentials.
If the later, stop using the new Apple ID and continue using the original Apple ID.
Content acquired via iTunes is permanently tied to the Apple ID it was acquired with.

An email account can only have one Inbox, and each email account can only be on one iTunes account. I don't use Virgin Media, but some providers allow you to have sub accounts under the main account, or can you create a second Virgin Media account to use on a second iTunes accout ? You can also create free email accound via, for example, http://hotmail.com and http://gmail.com
But you can use the same iTunes account on more than iPad - all content that you buy/download from the iTunes store is tied to the iTunes account that downloads it, so if you want to have the same apps, music, films etc on both then continuing to have just the one account may be preferable.

My icloud is linked to my husband's icloud. How can I change it so that my itunes email address shows up and not my husband's? All my apps also go to his phone. None of my pics, or apps were saved on my phone. I think because it has his itunes info.

My husband and I traded phones a week ago. Now I have my phone back. So when I got my # back I tried to recall all my stored data via icloud but nothing except contacts was retrieved. Welcome to the Apple Community.
To begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud too.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photostream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.
To avoid confusion when discussing your problem, when I mention iCloud, I am referring to the services under the iCloud login, Whereas I will refer to the whole cloud thing as The Cloud.
It appears you want to remove his ID from iCloud on your device and add your own back, you can do this at settings > iCloud > Delete account and then sign in again using your Apple ID. By doing this your data should be added back to your device, unless your husband has deleted it when using your ID. Photo stream is a little different.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there (subject to a 1,000 photo limit) until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.
You should also decide whether you want to share your iTunes content with each other. If you do share, you can stop the apps and music etc., that he buys on his device downloading to yours by turning off automatic downloads on your device at settings > iTunes & App Stores.
