  • "Software update can't check for updates because of a network problem" - help!

Recently, when I perform a software update check on the pulldown Apple menu, I get this error:
"Software update can't check for updates because of a network problem."
The only problem is that my network works just fine. I use the internet and get emails without any problem. But I can't figure how I can fix Software Update.
The only relevant updates have been for Glims and 1Password. Oh, and note the same problem trying to access the App Store; I just get a "Can't connect to the App Store" error.
    Any hints?

I have to solve all my own problems.
The problem was due to Little Snitch. Once I upgraded from 2.4.0 to 2.4.2, my system works swimmingly again.
    FIXED!

  • Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem....after firmware update

I just bought a MBP w/Lion (10.7.4) and ran software update.  The first two items I updated were firmware for SMC (ver 1.5) and EFI (ver 2.7) and now my MBP says: "Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem."  However, I can connect to the Internet to surf the web just fine.  This is the only update I've made.  Can firmware be uninstalled?  If I reverted to the image on my external drive that I did with CCC prior to the update, would that fix it?

Hi! i hope i'm able to explain what i worked out and what worked for me. I had the same message coming up "no internet connection, run network/internet diagnosis" etc etc. Internet connection was fine. What i finally did:
Open airport, check internet, internet options ; with me, IPv6 was set as  this (the letters are in german order and not in a english order, sorry...):
In system prefs, network/TCP/IP  IPv6 was set to "automatic":
I did change the settings in Airport back to "Link Local" and Software Update worked immediately normal whithout restarting the computer.
No idea what changed the settings; however i did run permission repairs beforehand with no connection to any problems, just as a normal kind of 'maintenance routine'.
Hope this helps others, it worked for me.
    Cheers

  • I wan't update using itunes, i want to make update using my phone, but when check for an update using software update in setting message appear " can't check for update....."?

i wan't update using itunes, i want to make update using my phone, but when check for an update using software update in setting message appear " can't check for update....."?

Reboot the device and see if the error happens again. Updating through iTunes is usually optimal, but the file size differs via Software Update on the device and iTunes (50MB vs ~800MB)

  • Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem.

The software update app fails with following error msgs. But all network functions fine.
+A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.+
+Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem.+
Deleted the software update plist files in $HOME/Library/Preferences, $HOME/Library/Preferences/ByHost, and HD/Library/Preferences, as per some posts. no effect. Problem persists.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

    Same here
The last update I managed to do without problems was +Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 5+ - since yesterday the update process has become much, much slower and when I try to install +Security Update 2009 005+ and +iTunes 9+, it fails, usually with the aforementioned error, but also sometimes with Error 400 or Error 600, IIRC.

  • Software update can't check for updates because of a network problem mac

hi i am facing below probelm on my mac ... i have done all the ip setting on my mac  Error is software update can't check for updates because of a network problem mac.Can any one please assit me...

  • Software Update can't check for updates (Lion)

Just downloaded and installed OSX 10.7. Tried to run Software Update and get the following alert:
'Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem. The file “index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog” couldn’t be found on the server “swscan.apple.com”.'
Repaired permissions, created new user account... Issue persists. I'm connected to the internet. Software Update System Preference has no entries in the "Software Installed' tab.

No I haven't tried to get the individually. I will just wait because I am not the only one in our household who's iTunes won't download app updates.
The Software Update error has also now changed to:
Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem.
A network error has occurred. Check your Internet connection, and then try again.
as opposed to earlier when it read:
Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem.
The file “index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog” couldn’t be found on the server “matsus2.matilda.net.au”.
So something has changed in the last few hours. Maybe it's not my computer and just something to do with the apple servers. The matsus2.matilda.net.au is the interesting thing as it has no relevance to our internet or home network.

  • Although I am logged in as an admin, I can't check for updates or update Firefox. I'm on a Mac and would rather not delete this version and just reinstall the new version bc I don't want to lose my bookmarks. Please help - thanks.

I need to update Firefox to the latest version, but check for updates is grayed out. I am already logged in as an admin for my computer (it's a Mac), but my computer is telling me that I don't have permission to update Firefox. How can I update Firefox? I don't want to delete and reinstall because then I will lose my bookmarks.
    Thanks!

'''I have also been having a problem I thought it was me or my computer'''as I am not really that good with my computer ,Also there are pages that I try to go to hat says pages busy or moved can not connect, but I can from explorer.

  • Software Update Checks for Updates at Start Up Even When Off

I had problems with Software Update struggling to updating my Macbook's firmware (I solved it by updating the firmware outside of Software Update with Installer), I am now having problems with Software Update.
Software Update checks for updates everytime I start up my computer - even when I have Software Update checks turned off in System Preferences. Is there a way to correct this?

I, too, am having this same problem. However, I'll need a little patience from everyone. The last Mac I used was an SE30 and now about 15-18 years later I have 3 PC desktops and 3 PC laptops in my house. But... I'm exploring getting back to Mac and have a MacBook Pro that's exactly 10 days old. No problems until 2 days ago and now every time I boot, the little software update icon is bouncing on my Dock. It searches and then tells me there are no updates to install. Pretty annoying having it do this every start up. I've checked apple>system preferences>software update and unchecked it (so that it should be off). Still shows up on next boot.
So, I tried to follow your suggestion about top level HD > preferences, but haven't quite figured out the Mac OS enough to know where these preferences are that you're directing me to. Could you possibly be a bit more granular for this Mac novice?
Thanks a ton. These little system annoyances are why I've decided to try and break the PC grip on my life and it's a little disappointing to already have one on my mac. At least on the PC I know how to get rid of these things, but I'm still learning this Mac stuff.
    Thanks again,
    E

  • RH8 - Can't check for updates

    Hi,
From RoboHelp, if I go to the Help menu, I see the "Updates" option greyed out. I believe from previous versions, that this is supposed to always be an option so at anytime, you can check if updates are available. My guess is that this could be a permissions issue, whereby it will not allow me to check, but I could be wrong. Is it possible to fix this?
    Thanks.

Check when RoboHelp has been open a couple of minutes. Wondering if it is like Deactivate which is greyed if you look straight after opening RoboHelp.
If that is not it, then it likely is a permissions issue. Get an IT admin to log on and check the menu option, allowing that delay.

  • I can't check for updates because of a "network problem"

when i try to access software updates, i get the aforementioned message, however, when i run the network diagnostic i get "your internet connection appears to be working correctly. i recently had major issues w/my mac and had to have the hard drive reinstalled. i'm running version 10.6.8.
    thanks for looking.

Not sure any of these will work, but did you try restarting your iMac?  Re-setting the PRAM?  Running Disk Utility and repairing disk permissions for your startup volume?
Has this only happened once or twice in the past hour, of over the course of a whole day?  If only happened in the last hour, maybe the other end of the network is having a problem at the moment, and try to run updates again in an hour or two.
    Good luck.

  • I currently have iTunes version 7 and I need to upgrade to version 10.  I am afraid of losing all my music if I just download 10 and when I use the "Check for updates" in the version 7 help menu, it tells me the server cannot be contacted.

I currently have iTunes version 7 on my computer and need to upgrade to version 10 to sync my new nano iPod.  When I tried the "check for updates" under the version 7 "help" menu, it said it could not contact the update server.  I am afraid if I just download version 10 from the website, it will wipe out my music library.  What should I do to upgrade?

Back up your music and install from the website. You probably won't need to do this, but if your library is erased, restore it from the backup.

  • HT4623 please help i cant get my software upgrade for ios 7 there is a one in the software upgrade box but all it says is checking for updates

cannot up date software to ios 7 so i can get certain apps all it does is say checking for updates

    Here are some options:
    1. turn off your device completely for at least 30 sec
connect your device to your computer
update using iTunes in your computer.
    2. If the first option fails, try resetting first the settings (setting>general>reset>reset all settings). Once done click on settings>general>software update

  • Since upgrading to Leopard, can't check for software updates or iTunes stor

since upgrading to Leopard, i can't get software upgrades. I get error messages "software update can't connect to the update server. make sure you're connected to the internet, then try again. software update can't check for updates because of a network problem." My network connections are fine.
Also get "itunes could not connect to the itunes store. the network connection was refused. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again." when I try to go to itunes store. Again, my network connections are fine.
    Any ideas?

the solution is to use Little Snitch Configuration.app, which monitors online activity and gives option to allow/deny access of a given program.
