The Favorites panel doesn't work that way – it doesn't offer the folder tree. The icons there are just links.
When you click on one of your links in Favorites, it highlights the appropriate folder in the Folders panel. This does display the folder structure with sub-folders.
You need to have the Folders panel open to see it.

  • I placed a personal folder in the sidebar of the finder. It had NB folders inside. This sidebar folder accidentally got dragged and went "poof" into a cloud of smoke. I cannot find the folder or it's NB contents anywhere. Help years of work!

    Hi,
I need your help Please, I fear I might have lost years worth of work.
I had created 3 personal folders In my Home folder.
I then created a new folder called "active folder" and dragged these 3 folders inside, removing them from the Home folder.
I then dragged my newly created folder "Active Folder" to the Sidebar of the finder.
When I had closed finder and reopened it - the "active Folder" folder was unable to open.
A friend tried to help- dragged "active folder" off the sidebar.. and it disappeared with a cloud effect.
I cant find that folder or its NB contents anywhere,
Please help me with some advice if you can.
    Not using tiger or Lion.*

When you created that "active folder," where did you create it?  And after you added it to the sidebar, what did you do with it?  If the data is truly nowhere to be found on your system, even using EasyFind, then I suspect you mistakenly deleted it, thinking that you had copied it to the sidebar.  That would explain why you later found that the "active folder" was unable to open from the sidebar.  The sidebar is just another way to access the original item, and if you deleted the original item, it can't do its job.
Unfortunately, if this is what you did and you don't have any backups, you may be out of luck.  I don't know what you mean by saying you "did the whole data recovery 1's and 0's," but if you haven't already done so, you should try some dedicated data recovery software, to see if those deleted files may still be on the drive.  See Recovering deleted files.
Ultimately, this is not a flaw in the Mac system, it is a flaw in your use of it.  I strongly recommend some reading to get up to speed:

  • Recover a personal folder placed on sidebar, accidentally removed

How do I recover a personal folder placed on the sidebar, accidentally removed by r-click "remove folder"?

It just removed the alias to the real folder. In Finder, locate the original folder. Click and drag that folder back into the sidebar, position in Favorites where you want it, and then release.

  • Can AS Choose Bookmarks Open In Tabs?

    Hi folks.
After scanning the Safari dictionary, I was wondering if I can integrate choosing a bookmarks folder to be opened in tabs. I develop using about 8 tabs and I often choose that. I would like to trigger that by using a script. Can this be done?
I have the bookmarks in a current folder, and it would be nice to be able to point to that locus. However, from the looks of the library, I'd have to open each tab individually with a direct URL.
In any case, happy to hear what people have found.
    Cheers

This script will take a list of URLs and open them in tabs in a single document - which is, I think, what you are asking for with the exception of the folder part (see below). If not what you want, do elaborate.
When you say you have the bookmarks in a current folder, are you referring to a Safari bookmark folder or a set of weblocs in a Finder folder?

set bookmarkList to items 2 thru end of bookmarkList

  • I-tunes puts my music on the D:my music, but i want it on my c:programfiles. How can i change the destanation folder??Thanks

Where can you choose the destanation folder for your music??
It automaticly puts it in MY MUSIC on the d: but i want it on de C:

The normal place to put the iTunes application is inside Program Files on your system drive, normally C:. The usual place for your iTunes library is inside your profile's music folder. You can put an iTunes library anywhere you like, but if you're not putting it in the standard location then I would recommend you move it to the root of your chosen drive, e.g. C:\iTunes.
If the library is consolidated, that is all media is inside the iTunes Media folder which, in turn, is inside the main iTunes library folder, then move the iTunes folder and all its contents to your new location, then hold down shift as you start iTunes, click Choose and browse to the new location.
If the library is not consolidated then consolidate before moving, or if that isn't practical due to the duplication that would occur, move the library folder & reconnect as above, then relocate the media using my ConsolidateByMoving script.
If you only want to redirect where new music goes (leaving the library where it is) then edit the location of the iTunes Media folder under Edit > Preferences > Advanced. You can also consolidate existing content to the new location after editing if you wish. (Not an approach I'd recommend BTW)

  • Unable to open personal folder default

Recently, Microsoft Outlook displays a message "Unable to open personal folder default", pressing buttons <OK> outlook closes. But if you move the Outlook.pst file when you start outlook can't find a personal folder file, and asks for help.
Shows him to move files and outlook works fine, but before the first shutdown. Then, after another run outlook again it can not open the personal folders used by default. Maybe try some pst file reader? Tried to reinstall the office - nothing.

Well. Does the DL have more than 5000 contacts in it?  If so, that may cause a problem due to Exchange's 5000 recipient limit for sent emails.
Where is personal distrubution list stored in your scenario? Stored in OST and sync with mailbox, or backup in the local PST file?
If other contact groups and contacts can be opened just fine, it seems the issue may occur if the problematic contact groups is corrupted itself.
You can take a chance to open it via MFCMAPI tool. If it even cannot be open, I think it cannot be recovered unless we do a single mailbox recovery.

Thanks for your reply....FYI...I was trying to download from www.adobe.com on
the specific page that has downloads of your products.    As far as the
alternate source is concerned I am not totally sure what the capabilities it has as
I am recovering from a hospital stay and had to send my wife to retailer to
pick this up because I am accessing email from home until I return to work and
need something to work now.  I don't yet have the SW.  (I would have had her

  • Personal Folder - how can you hide it?

Is there any way of removing/hiding the "Personal Folder" link?
We've taken it off the start menu and desktop, but it still appear on the 'desktop' when you view it through open/save dialog boxes.  We redirect all My Documents etc to other location and the "Personal Folder" link is enabling people to save into their
    roaming profile.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Thank for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum.
As my understanding, you want to hide user folder on desktop, also “open/save desktop”. You could try the following steps:
Note: before this operation, please backup your Registry.
    1.
Open the Start Menu and type regedit.exe in start search box, press enter. If prompted by UAC, click Yes.
    2.
Find the location below in Regedit.
1). If your system is Windows 7 32bit, go to
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}\ShellFolder
2). If your system is Windows 7 64bit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID\{59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}\ShellFolder
    3.     Right click on the ShellFolder key and click on Permissions, select the Administrators group, then check the Allow box to the right of Full Control and click OK.
    4.     In the right pane of regedit, right click on Attributes and click on Modify. The default value is
    f084012d, now change to f094012d.
    5.     Close Regedit.
Now, the personal folder won’t appear at desktop. If you want to add it to desktop, you can repeat the steps above, and change the Attributes value to
    f084012d.
    Hope it helps.

  • Batch Process - Can't choose a folder?

    Hi All,
I just got Acrobat, and I'm trying to do a batch OCR, following the numerous tutorials on the subject. They all say that setting the option "Run commands on:" to "Ask when run", should allow you to choose the input folder to run the batch on. I can't seem to get this to work. When I run it on my system, the Select button is grayed out for folders, and will only let me select individual files. Is there something I am missing here?
    I'm running Acrobat Pro 8.1.2

    >They all say that setting the option "Run commands on:" to "Ask when run", should allow you to choose the input folder to run the batch on. I can't seem to get this to work.
Appears not to work in version 8. You'll have to change the "run commands on" to selected folder.
