I can't connect my laptop windows to the internet sharing a network

Hi. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I set up airport express on my imac g5 so I can use our windows xp laptop to share access to the internet. I have a wireless connection for our laptop (a Belkin wireless notebook card-802.11gg). The laptop recognizes the wireless network on the imac (and confirms a wireless connection), but when I try to go online, the windows says there is no connection to the internet. My cable modem is connected to airport express. Am I missing something? Also I've set up my network using WEP access for the computers....
Appreciate your suggestions!

My suggestion would be to ask this in the Airport forum, as it doesn't appear to have any direct relevance to using iTunes.

Thanks for replying. The plan you have it would be an additional charge to add the hotspot feature. It's not free with the Nationwide plan. You would need to add the feature online at www.verizonwireless.com/myverizon

  • After updating to 4.3 I can't connect to wi-fi because the "internet speeds are too slow". How much speed does this require?

After updating to 4.3 I can't connect to wi-fi because the "Internet speeds are too slow". So what speed does it need?

I called tech support and I got the same **** canned response, backup and reset to factory settings.  Yeah right!  Everything was fine until Verizon shoved the software update down my throat.  I finally unchecked the box in Wi-Fi settings for auto network switch.  However, I still get the "Your Internet connection is unstable" warning no matter what Wi-Fi connection I hit.
In a related story, I received a new or refurbished phone as my original SIII had AC/charging connection issues.  I called probably three times to attempt to back up my data, went into two stores in attempts to have them transfer the information over, and all were too incompetent and inept to assist me.  Only when talking to someone about this Wi-Fi issue, did someone actually know how to back up everything.  Of course by this time, I had to send the new phone back because Verizon charged me $400 before I got everything squared away.  What a colossal waste of my time!

  • XP can't connect to iMac-based AirPort for Internet Sharing

(I apologize if there's already an answer to my issue out there somewhere; I promise that I searched for it before posting)
    Hello!
I have an iMac running Tiger (and connected to the internet via ethernet -> cable modem), and I want to use it as a hub for encrypted Internet Sharing. I have two other machines, an older iMac and a WinXP laptop. As you might expect, I have no problem whatsoever setting up the network and getting the old iMac to see it, connect, and so on. The XP machine can see the network, and, when encryption is off, can connect to it, but I really want to run encryption.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to run into this problem, and I have found a couple of websites that discuss it -- however, I can't seem to make it work. Does anyone out there in forum land know of a step-by-step tutorial that would cover setting up encrypted Internet Sharing (over AirPort) on an iMac so that another iMac and an XP machine can connect? Any guidance you can offer would be most welcome.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dieter

Just to give a bit of an update, I chatted with Apple support, and in essence they told me that I had to take this up with the manufacturer of my XP laptop's wireless card -- understandable, given that my old iMac works just fine on the network (so the problem really isn't on the Mac end of things).
I tried using the information at http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030803030354585, but no dice, unfortunately; maybe that will work for someone else, however.
I also found out something new -- I thought my XP laptop could connect to my AirPort network when encryption was off, but I was wrong. Instead, it just says "trying to connect," but nothing ever happens. But I CAN use the XP box to connect to other wireless networks in the neighborhood (shh, don't tell). So it looks like there's a deeper issue.
Please -- I know that someone out there has an answer; I really need to be able to make this work.
    Thanks again,
    Dieter

  • How can I connect to multiple Macs over the internet?

I have forwarded the ports on my Airport Extreme as follows:
10.0.1.3 being assigned to my Mac Mini.
I also have a MacBook Pro at home I would like access to which has the 10.0.1.4 reserved/assigned. I cannot connect to it because the port forwarding points to the Mac Mini, and it doesn't allow me to create another rule since those ports are already being used by that first entry. How do I go about having the option to connect to either one of the two computers at home when I'm at work using Apple Remote Desktop?

it's not really a confirmed limitation of ARD, ARD is not designed to work outside of a LAN
it's designed for system admins to manage macs remotely while on the same LAN
but you want to use it outside of your LAN, you can by using VPN
VPN gives you remote secure access to your LAN
you will appear to be connected to your LAN
so you can do most things as you would if you were actually on your LAN
ARD does not facilitate a VPN connection
you'd connect using a VPN connection to your LAN then start ARD, ARD will behave just as it would if you were on the LAN
VPN client is built into OSX, system preferences, network, add choose VPN connection
You'd need a VPN server such as OSX server on your LAN
and configure any firewalls, routers etc to allow incoming VPN to connect to your server
You'd also need either a fixed external IP address and external domain name or use dynamic DNS setup
    you could also try logmein

  • I can't connect my iPod touch to the internet

I just bought an iPod touch and I am about to return it because I am so frustrated!! I have basically tried everything in the book to connect to the internet. I entered in the password for my router, its 6 digits but my iPod only will allow an 8 digit or more password to connect?? What password do I enter to connect? I have also used the PIN number on the bottom of my router to try to connect it, but that doesnt work either. I can't access anything on it, no weather, maps, safari, youtube... anything that requires the internet. Also my router is set to only allow wireless N devices, does it need to be changed to allow wireless G aswell? Please, if I could get some help, I want an iPod touch so bad, but not if I can't use all of the devices, I could have just kept using my old iPod nano.

  • Message: Can't connect to a Windows Service

Every time I log onto my Laptop I get a message that says it can't connect to a Windows Service. What is this and what does it mean to me? I don't even know what forum category this question should be posted in, so I just took a guess.

You can try resetting the winsock by performing the following:
    1.  Click the start button
    2.  Type "cmd.exe"
    3.  Select it and then "ctrl - shift - enter" to allow elevation request (administrator)
    4.  Type in - "netsh winsock reset" press enter (without quotes)
    5.  Then Restart your computer
After restarting your computer, should you still get the error message, try disabling your firewall and restart again. If your connection works, replace the firewall software.

    Hi,
I'm running WebLogic 5.1 sp10 on a Solaris box and I get the
    following error:
    java.rmi.RemoteException: java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to
X11 window server using ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.

Have I just forgotten to set an environment variable? I would prefer
not to install bulky pieces of software, but if that's what it takes
to get over this error, so be it.
    Thanks, Dave A.

A Java AWT, X11 problem posted in the weblogic ejb newsgroup. I haven't been in here for long, but
that has to be a first.
If you have the DISPLAY env variable set to :0.0, you have to be at the console on a Solaris box
running the XServer. 'xdm' I think is the code that has to be running. Also, I think the format is
<hostname:0.0> or better <hostname:0> unless you are on a multi-headed workstation. Something like:
    export DISPLAY=hostname:0
where hostname is the name of the host running an XServer and the .xhosts file allows access to the
    XServer from the display client.
Apparently, you are not at the console?
Anyway, I don't think there is a newsgroup here that I could even recommend to cross-post this to as
it is not a WebLogic question. I think I would try the Discussion Forums at http://java.sun.com.

i try to use jfreechart to create a piechart on a aix os with jdk1.3.1 and the aix system does not have a xwindow installed

i got the tip of passing -Djava.awt.headless=true to vm to disable system graphic calls but after restart weblogic i still get the same error
i am wondering if this case has something to do with jdk 1.3.1, and perhaps newer versions of jdk can take the parameter and operate correctly
    is that right?

is headless option supported in jdk1.3.1?No,
It was added in JDK 1.4:

  • Can't connect to X11 window server using

java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using "Ip" as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
I get the above error when I try to create an instance of the JProgressBar.
I have not been able to create a workaround.
One suggestion that I had was to use the following system command.
    System.setProperty("java.awt.headless","true");
That gave me a null pointer exception.
I also tried setting the compiler parameters to make this process headless, but it did not make any difference.
I am running this code in a Unix environment.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Generally in Unix environment the server should accept the connections from clients. Run the xhost + command on the server to which you are trying to connect and then try your application.
    Thanks
