I can't connect to... anything

I was talking with a friend of mine using skype. Out of blue, I got disconnected. A few hours ago wireless_tools were upgraded. I thought maybe that's the problem. Reboot, test, downgrade, test didn't help.
I can't check whether it is a hardware problem since I don't have another os.
To make things even worse, not even use tethering using my mobile phone works.
Any ideas?

Thank you all for trying to help me. Sorry for not posting many details at my initial message. I was writing from my cell phone.
The problem was due to hardware. I reset the router and now everything works fine. At home, we are 4 users having Windows, Linux (x2) and Mac. The problem occured only to me. Usually the router gives headaches to the Windows user. This time was my turn. It is an old router.

  • Gnutella can't connect to anything?

Hi there.. recently i installed qtella.. i run it and it will not connect to anything.. i'm not sure why.. but it just keeps trying and coming up as "error" ..
this is a basic arch build .. which has been updated.. on kde 3.1
here's a screenshot of the problem (the qtella build is the one from unofficial)
    http://www3.telus.net/public/sinbsd/snapshot1.png
any help would of course be appreciated.

well qtella is a problem right now it is hopelessly out of date which may be the crux of the issue i have not been able to get any newer version built at all. well functioning build that is. gtk-gnutella never brings up a connection either. while it does not give me just plain "error" as a reason i can rarely ever get more than one connection at any one time. i am at a loss as to whether this is a build error or a gnutella issue. anyone that might be able to help out with a resolution to either problem i would be greatful.
while not as busy as gnutella i would suggest installing and configuring giFT and then using giFTcurs or giFToxic as a frontend (you need one of the two as giFT is just a daemon) until myself or someone else can solve the gtk-gnutella/qtella issues (if that is even possible).
sorry i wish i could provide a more concrete response.

  • Can't connect to anything on the network

Since yesterday, I'm unable to access any of the shared Macs and Servers on our network. I wasn't aware of making any changes that might have triggered this, like doing a software update.
    Here are the symptoms:
In the "Network" pane, when I click on any of the shares, I get the message:
"The alias "XXXX" could not be opened because the original file cannot be found."
Also the "My Network" folder is no longer showing up in the "Network" pane.
When I try to connect using Command-K to bring up the Connect to Server window, trying to connect to any of the favourite IP addresses produces no results: I can select the address and press "connect", but nothing happens.
I am able to print, and to send and receive e-mail and connect to the Internet, and the Network Status window in System Preferences says that Ethernet is active and all is well.
Other computers on the network can see and connect to me.
Any ideas? I've tried a restart (a few of them!)

Thanks for the suggestions... in the end the only solution was to reinstall the combo update of 10.4.11. Some preference (or something) was just very unhappy - and reinstalling the combo update fixed that.

  • I can't connect to anything after connecting to wifi

How do I fix not being able to connect to FB or anything after being connected to wifi?

If you are truly connected to the router, just try turning off and on the wifi in Settings.  If that doesn't fix it or you cannot connect to your router, follow the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398

  • After upgrading to iOS 6 i can't connect to anything

I upgraded to ios6 and since then i cannot connect to itunes and app store. I cannot send emails or send any media or status's on whatsapp and facebook. I have checked my internet and its working fine on my mac book. I have switched on and off and i have checked all settings and everything is switched on how it should be - but nothing is working!! Are you unable to receive photos in text messages, iMessages, or both?
Two quick things to check: try restarting your iPhone, and make sure you have space available on your iPhone (Settings > General > Usage)

  • Please help me :/ I can't connect to anything!

Alright, the restrictions in my moms iPod were on and she couldn't remember what the password was, so she wanted me to figure it out. I found out very quickly that wouldn't be easy. So, I did everything it said to do, which was restore everything (May I remind you this was all at around 2-3 in the morning) I waited for it all to load and this grey screen came up and all it said was "Ipod" so I pulled the tab over and it brought me to "Language" then "Region" then it came to "wi-fi" I typed in our wi-fi password, but it wouldn't let me sign in, so below it, I clicked "connect to Itunes" after I re-plugged the charger into the computer, it said "error, ipod not recognized" and I really don't know what to do now. It's not connecting to Itunes, not connecting to wi-fi, what do I do? Please help me

I was going to try calling costumer service later, considering we don't exactly have the gas to actually *go* anywhere. Although, my sister does know a bit more than myself, so I'm going to have her try it as soon as she gets home. Thank you though!

  • Why does my cache go up to 600+ kb when I've only visited onr site? This is happening w/ the latest auto update. No wonder I can't connect to anything!

I just noticed this, so it's an addendum to my last question/problem with the "latest edition". Thanks!

Sounds like your wi-fi signal strength has degraded.  Try rebooting your wi-fi router, or get it serviced.
Do you have similar issues with any other wi-fi routers?

  • 2 Apple ids and can't connect

I have 2 apple ids and one is for iCloud through my new Macbook Air. I don't remember the password for that id and whenever I try to change it it reverts to the other id. Any ideas on how to fix? Get rid of the second id? I can't connect to anything, icloud, ical, etc.

OK, so the Apple ID on your iCloud is what your current Apple ID used to be, or it is a different ID altogether?

  • Can't connect to any wifi signal

I have a Lenovo S10 Ideapad. The wifi used to work fine for a long time under the broadcom-wl driver but after updating my severely outdated netbook, it doesn't anymore. The wl module ruins the network connection (wired and wireless). So I read that the b43 driver would be better to use, so I install it along with the b43fwcutter and to my surprise, wicd was able to see the network signals around me. Unfortunately, it can't connect to anything WPA secured, WEP secured or completely unsecured. If it isn't a bad password, then it fails to get the IP address. So I switched over to networkmanager and even that refuses to connect to any wireless signal.
Yes, I've read the wikis and have tried everything short of praying to a god for guidance.
I think the problem can be traced back to the shitty drivers which would mean I'm shit out of luck but if anyone knows a way to fix this, please tell me. I really don't want to have to go to Ubuntu to use my netbook outside my own home (not that theres anything wrong with Ubuntu but Arch is my true love).

What version of b43fwcutter did you use?
What is the specific Broadcom chip you have?
    My system:
    ewaller@odin:~/.cache/sessions 1094 %pacman -Qs b43
    local/b43-fwcutter-git 19510101-1
Firmware extractor for the bcm43xx kernel module - git revision
    ewaller@odin:~/.cache/sessions 1095 %b43-fwcutter --version
    b43-fwcutter version 012
    ewaller@odin:~/.cache/sessions 1096 %
    And my chip:
    ewaller@odin:~/.cache/sessions 1098 %lspci | grep Broad
    02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
No problems here (WPA2). Using wicd.
Also, you have not mentioned wpa_supplicant.  It us running, yes?

  • Software Update can't download; Safari can't connect to apple (tough!)

    hello -
I posted this topic in Safari but it may really be more of a networking question. I have two problems which are specific to one user account on my Tiger machine.
    1) Safari can't connect to anything from Apple.com
    2) Software Update can download lists of updates, but the downloads of the updates themselves never begin (hangs at 0 B of 31 MB, etc.)
Firefox is fine on apple sites from this account, and neither problem is present when I login to a different account.
Here are some things I've tried with no luck:
    -trash com.apple.softwareupdate.plist
-move all plists out of Preferences and restart Safari
-move Safari folder out of ~/Library and restart Safari
-move everything out of ~/Library which is not present in
the working user account and restart Safari
-reinstall Safari from Tiger disc using Pacifist
I ran a port scan in Network Utility and this is what I get:
    Port Scan has started ...
    Port Scanning host: 192.168.100.54
    Open TCP Port: 21 ftp
    Open TCP Port: 22 ssh
    Open TCP Port: 139 netbios-ssn
    Open TCP Port: 427 svrloc
    Open TCP Port: 445 microsoft-ds
    Open TCP Port: 548 afpovertcp
    Open TCP Port: 5900
    Port Scan has completed ...
Is it weird that port 80 does not appear? Still, I get the same result from the working user's account so it's hard to imagine this is the case. I don't have the OS X firewall on.
I am really stumped by this problem and would love some help!
    thanks,
    Gene

curious and curiouser! Your suggestion to Reset Safari was a great one - thanks! Resetting Safari allows access to the apple websites again. There's no new software to download from SWUpdate right now, so I can't test that, but I will test as soon as I can.
here's the weird thing though. Attempting to login to these discussion forums using Safari brings the problem back again! I type in my login info and it hangs forever while trying to load discussions.apple.com/login.jspa. Once this has happened, then I'm once again unable to load anything under apple.com in Safari, until I Reset. I thought maybe this was a Java problem so I reinstalled the latest Java, but this doesn't help. Still no problem here in Firefox.
    any thoughts!
    Gene

  • Can`t connect to bluetooth devices with iphone6

When I go into Bluetooth, the onlty devices that show are my other Iphone and Ipad.  Can`t connect to anything else as it doesn`t show up.

I Am having the same issue, and it looks like its an iPhone 6 thing. I connect my phone to my car stereo via Bluetooth, and my iPhone 4 and 5 worked perfectly. My 5 is even running iOS 8 and has no problem. I got my iPhone 6 yesterday and Bluetooth cannot connect. It can't even see any Bluetooth devices out there, while my 5, running alongside it can. I set up my phone via my iCloud backup, so I assumed maybe there are old settings in there from the 5, so I deleted network preferences. No luck. It also does not connect to wifi unless forced. What is wrong? I am disappointed in the quality of both ios8 and iphone6. They remind me of flaky android devices.       Any suggestions??

  • Thunderbird can't connect to the internet

I updated Thunderbird a little while ago (from version 8->9) so that I could use the lightning addon. However, ever since the update, it can't connect to anything (my email, the addons search, anything I've tried). The error console doesn't output any info that seems remotely useful, and trying to send an email throws something pretty unhelpful:
    Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent using SMTP server smtp.googlemail.com for an unknown reason. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact your network administrator.
I tried a pacman -Rs and then a new install; it did nothing. I restarted my machine; also nothing. I installed version 10 from the AUR and that works fine, but I'd like to run 9. Basically, I am unsure if this is a bug, or if there is some other piece of software blocking thunderbird from connecting... I have searched and haven't seen this problem elsewhere, so I am assuming it's something with my system.

lagagnon wrote:I would guess that google changed its smtp server: read this, the smtp section:

Well, like I mentioned, Thunderbird-beta (version 10) connects just fine... I also have another webmail account on my school's server that doesn't work in Thunderbird 9. Also, the web browser built in to it for browsing addons says I'm disconnected from the net, so I know it's not just an incorrectly setup webmail account.
I feel like something may have become blacklisted when I upgraded from version 8 to version 9 (I really don't know the ins and outs of this on an OS level). I'm assuming is that there is some flag set somewhere that thinks the old version of TB is running, so it refuses to serve the new one (whether it be in TB's code or on the OS level). However, that's only wild speculation based on the fact that I ran my upgrade while the old version was running and can believe that messed it up somehow.
But basically, I'm positive it's not a problem with my email servers being configured incorrectly.

  • TS1368 I'm frustrated! iPod Touch 4g not connecting to anything needing internet, even though wi-fi is connected.

My iPod Touch is making me very frustrated.  It can't connect to anything needing internet, except Draw Something.  App Store, Safari, even Weather won't load.  Facebook is touch-and-go.  If it loads it's VERY slow.  I contacted Apple support and that didn't help.  Best Buy (where I bought it a month ago) didn't help either.  The iPod Touch only connected for about the first week I owned it.  I've tried troubleshooting based on other answers posted here (changing the date, disconnecting and reconnecting wi-fi), but NOTHING works.  Please help!

    1. Try resetting Network Settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    2. If that does not help, test it on another network.
    3. If that does not work, try a restore.
    4. If that does not help, contact Apple again and see if they will replace it. You can always ask to be transferred to Customer Relations if you feel support was no help. They will take care of you.
