I can't connect to my iTunes library on my Macbook Pro using the Apple Remote app on my iPhone 4S. Why?

I've been looking through the forums for help with this problem. There are a couple of threads with similar problems, but no solved threads and the discussion doesn't seem to go anywhere... As far as I can tell, it's been causing a lot of annoyance for many users, including myself, but it looks like the community's in the dark about why it's happening!
I'm trying to connect to my iTunes library using the Apple Remote app on my new iPhone 4S. As you may know, there are two ways to do this:
Connect via Home Sharing by setting up Home Sharing on both iTunes and the iPhone, or
Connecting directly to iTunes using a four digit passcode.
I've tried both methods, and neither work!
Here's what happens for each method:
From the Remote app start screen, I tap the "Turn on Home Sharing" button. I enter my Apple ID details (which are definitely correct), and get a confirmation message on my phone saying "Home Sharing is on using [my email address]. To control iTunes: Choose Turn On Home Sharing from the Advanced menu in iTunes on your computer." I then go to iTunes, turn on Home Sharing, enter my Apple ID again and get a confirmation message saying "Home Sharing is now on", etc. However, there's no connection formed between my iPhone and my Macbook Pro - the Remote app just shows a message saying "Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV using the account [my email address].
From the Remote app start screen, I tap "Add an iTunes Library", and the four digit passcode is shown on my phone. I select the new "Quintin's iPhone" item that appears in the iTunes sidebar under "Devices", and enter the passcode on the screen that appears. Once I've entered it, I get a confirmation message saying "Your Remote is now able to control iTunes" with an "Okay" button. Clicking the "Okay" button makes the screen and the sidebar item disappear completely. On my phone, a message that says "Looking for ..." is shown on the screen with a spinning loading wheel, but nothing happens. After a minute or two, it stops and simply says "Could not find".
After trying both methods, I went through all of the troubleshooting steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1741 . Absolutely no effect.
I should mention that I was experiencing similar problems on my old iPhone 3Gs with an older version of iTunes. I thought it might have been some kind of hardware fault and expected it to clear up once I got the new phone, but the problem is still there. It's a new phone, a new computer, a newer version an iTunes... even a different network I'm trying to connect to it on. Bizarre!
I've even tried using the Mobile Air Mouse remote application instead. However again, the Mobile Air Mouse app on my phone can't pick up the Mobile Air Mouse server on my Mac.
I'm kind of at the end of my rope here. Anyone?
I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2. My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone). I was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

I have just updated my MacBook Pro with the latest iTunes, something I swore I would never do. But I had to do it in order to sync my iTunes library with my new iPad Mini. Unfortunately, after waiting 23 minutes for the software update, I STILL can't sync my music! The only songs I can see on my iPad Mini are songs I've purchased from the iTunes Store...all two of them. The remaining hundreds of songs simply don't show up. C'mon Apple, the reason I use a Mac platform is because it just always works, unlike MicroSucks. Is this what we can expect in a post-Jobs world...?

Click on your ipad in the upper right- this takes you to your summary page.
click on music tab at the top.
UNcheck all music and apply/sync.
When that is done, REcheck everything, and sync again. This usually works. -
TS1741 Apple remote app on iPad & iPhone cannot find library
I have used the Apple remote app on my ipad in the past, controlling my computer and also my stereo using airport express. I haven't used it in a few months, decided to have another look at it and have run into trouble. I keep getting 'could not find' when I try to add my itunes library.
Itunes can see my iPad, when I try to add the library it pops up in ituned to put the passcode in. My wifi is working fine in the house on both iPad and iPhone. I have deleted and re-added the app, upgraded to the new itunes, restarted computer, tried using the Remote App on my iphone. All the same thing. I've also done everything in the help section for the problem.
Please help, I really need this to work as we are having a big party and was going to use this instead of a juke box.Try quitting the app and then reset your iPad.
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it jiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem. -

Just updated my iPad 2 to OS7 and now I can't connect it to iTunes 10 on my MacBook OS 10.5.8
My MacBook is too old and can't be updated to Mountain Lion as it is early 2008 white MacBook.
It all worked perfectly prior to updating the iPad 2 to OS7.
There were no cautions or warnings
Are there any work arounds?
Can I uninstall OS7 and go back to OS6?

I think I will just move across to a PC as a result of this Apple strategy and I think I will just give up on Apples short lived product strategy.
A laptop that lasts five years indicates a long lived product strategy. Where they go wrong is to prevent backwards strategy when someone genuinely cannot live with ios7 like you. even the "unsupported" downgrade has now been blocked.
Don't go windows, you will not get five good years from a dell or an asus. If you can't buy Mountain Lion for it, get a new macbook, enjoy. -
My books are no longer in the iTunes library on my MacBook Pro. They are not in my iBooks, either. I had over 200 books in my iTunes library, all synced to my iPad 2. I deleted them from the iPad as I read them, knowing I still had them in iTunes. Then I updated to iOS 7. I still have the books I haven't deleted from my iPad, but all the other ones are nowhere to be found. No books in iTunes, no books in iBooks. Where are they? Also, going forward, if I want to add more books to my iPad, especially PDFs that are not available for purchase from the iBooks store, how do I do that? Help!

ABIGMAC1Check the documentation for the car audio system for device compatibility. A shuffle may not be compatible.
If the car audio system is able to use a regular USB flash drive connected to the USB port, you should just get an 8GB USB flash drive for $5-10, load it with your "car songs" and leave it connected to the car audio system, instead of constantly connecting and disconnecting an iPod.
If the car audio system has an aux. audio input mini-stereo jack, you can get something like this

and connect your shuffle's headphones jack to the car audio system. You can then use your shuffle to play through the car audio system. -

Can I watch a rented iTunes movie on my MacBook Pro on an airplane?
I will be flying tomorrow and was wondering if I can watch a rented iTunes movie on my MacBook Pro on the airplane. I have read if it is set in airplane mode that I can, but I want to be sure and was also wondering, if I can, do I have to watch it through a special app besides itunes. You can try a system reinstall:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer. -

You have to all be signed into the same Apple ID and on the same WiFi network, but yes you can do it. You have to sign into her Apple ID on your iPad in the store settings.

Can you use the apple remote control like a tv remote to control tv programs & DVDs on the computer? Everything I've found about the Apple Remote talks about using it for products other than desktops. I watch some regular tv shows on my iMac & would like to be able to use a remote control.

Thanks!You should be able to control DVD playback now with the Apple Remote. You may be able to get a bit of functionality with web sites by using Remote Buddy by using it as a virtual mouse and keyboard:

but you're not going to get anything close to the sort of functionality you'd get with a remote and a TV.

Copied my iTunes library to new MacBook Pro, why are my iPhone apps greyed out?

Rather than migrate from an iMac that I sold, I decided to just start fresh on a new Macbook Pro. I did back up my iTunes library and copied it over to the new Macbook. I synced my iPhone and iPad 2 on the new Macbook but the apps are greyed out. When I click the sync apps box all but a few of the apps (I'm assuming the ones that are default with the iPhone and iPad) dissappear.
I'd like the ability to arrange my apps with the Macbook at times and like the idea that I have a backup of all my apps on my computer. I realize I'm backing them up in iCloud, but just sayin'.

assuming all your media files are in the default location, connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in Target Disk Mode, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).
So how can I turn off the library on my iMac and just make it two?
you can't.
you'll have to wait until you reach the limit of five machines. then you can use the deauthorize all option, following which you can reauthorize those computers you currently use/have access to.
