I can't create a USB booteable Windows in Boot Camp Mavericks that actually boots

Hi everyone... I have an issue that is apparently very common and yet I haven't found a working solution... I'm trying to install windows 7 using boot camp on my iMac 8,1 it is running Mavericks... I've got as far as creating the windows USB but after boot camp attempts to restart the computer I get that "no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" message. My DVD unit is not working so I decided to try with the USB option but I'm stuck... I've tried using different (very different) pen drives (brand and sizes) but I always get this. I have also tried holding the alt/option key when I turn the computer on but it does never shows the USB, I've tried with different .iso files 32 and 64 bits, original and "questionable"... I hope you guys have a working solution for this. Thanks in advance, have a nice day.

Windows will not boot from USB if the Mac has an internal optical drive. This is something that Microsoft implemented.

If you want to get rid of Windows and the BC partition use the Boot Camp assistant program to remove the Win/BC partition. Don't do it manually with Disk Utility Use the BC A program.

#1 I don't know what a "shell window" is. There are shells (programs that accept terminal input and run scripts), and there are windows (usually drawn by an Xclient (like xterm), or a toolkit client (dtterm, gnome-terminal).
The two are very different. You may just want to run xterm or something and assume that it will also launch a shell.
#2 You'll need to explain that one better. system() is the normal way to launch external commands. If you don't want to use it, you'll need to explain why it's not useful here.

Can't creat a USB Flash key to recover my BIOS

Hi, i've been struggling for a week to make my Notebook back.
From what I've read, I need to make a BIOS recovery from a USB, but I can't get to make this USB key. I'm using a Cruzer Force 32gb Sandisk Pendrive. But the Bios recovery software doesn't recognize it.
I've already tried formatting the drive with FAT32 and rename it to HP_TOOLS. My laptop's recovery partition is missing.
Does it have any limitations? I'm talking about drive size or something else.
My warranty has already expired and I'd like to solve this myself.

Microsoft only allows 1 copy or USB to be created.
Do you receive an error message or number?

Can not create a file under \window\system32 folder

How do I create a folder in \windows\system32 in x64 machine through java code?
Creating a file/folder under \windows\system32 fails and java creates a folder in \windows\syswow64 folder.
pls see the code attached for example.
My client wants to create a folder using my application.

Mail can't create a new message window ...?

Hi,
Mail.app on my machine has been having a strange issue the past few days. Twice now, it has lost the ability to create a new message editing window.
If I click the new message button, or select "New Message" from the file menu, or click the "Reply" button on an existing message, etc. but no new message window ever appears. Quitting Mail.app and restarting, all the new message windows suddenly appear and everything is fine again ... until the next time.
Anyone else ever had Mail.app lose the ability to create new message editing windows like this?
Machine: Powerbook G4 15" (Oct 2005, 1.67GHz)

How can i remove a hybrid mbr from my system drive so that Efi booted windows will install.

i have just clean installed OSX lion on a freshly wiped drive in my macbook pro, using a bootable lion installer usb i used disk utility to partition my drive into a mac and a windows partition under the GPT/GUID partition scheme, i then proceeded to install lion onto the mac partition, and completed the set up, All Good...
so i plug in my Windows 8 EFI Boot USB stick (Notice, EFI boot here, NOT BIOS EMULATION BOOT), shutdown and power on the mac and proceed to the boot picker by holding option, So far so good, the usb key is recognised and the system boots into the Windows Setup in EFI mode, Enter product key, accept terms and so on, Now i select my Windows partition and windows Says That it cant install to Partition 4 (EFI Partiton, OSX Lion, Lion recovery, Windows), It says that it can only install to a GPT / GUID based disk as expected...
Why is there a protective MBR on my drive when i didnt add one, and i have not even touched bootcamp assistant...
How can i remove this Protective MBR from my drive so that my disk is PURE GPT so windows can install?
hours of googling has turned up nothing...

Alexander, I would like to apologize for the TERRIBLE answers you have been given so far. I too had this question, and so here is what my thoughts are, as maybe they might provide insight in leading you towards the answer.
I am a *nix user in general, and thus own a mac and a thinkpad. In fact I just got my thinkpad not too long ago. As such, I transfered my faster hard drive to my faster computer, which made logcal sense to me. Ergo, I moved my Mac drive to my lenovo. On this drive I have a hybrid mbr which is no longer needed. So my thoughts are this:
From what I gather, the UEFI standard indicates that there is to be a protective MBR on all GPT systems. This is so that when you use programs that are not GPT aware, they will see a presumably "full" drive and not think that they have the right to destroy your existing data in what it thinks is free space. For instance, fdisk or other MBR only partitioning systems. Thus, if your system has only a MBR with a single EE partition, it would be my guess that it was in fact not put there by installing Windows, but rather for the protection of your system.
If you are in my situation, where you do indeed have a hybrid MBR with written out partitions, it would be my guess that the only way to rid yourself of it is to do it manually. The way I would recommend, is using gdisk (gpt fdisk). It is command line only, but the syntax is pretty easy:
$ sudo gdisk /dev/disk0
Assuming you are using your mac partition and your primary hdd is disk0. That will put you into an interactive session of gdisk. Enter "?" for command options. What you need is the "recovery and transformation" section which is the "r" I think. From there I would say you probably want to create a new hybrid mbr (you will be using this to delete it). When it asks you for the partitions you would like to include, just hit enter. It should then ask you if you would like to create a protective entry for the remainder of the empty space. This is what you want so tell it to do that. After you are done, "w" will write and exit. You may want to first use the "p" to print and ensure that you have what you want. You can proabably check your work by using fdisk as so:
$ sudo fdisk -l /dev/disk0
I hope this helps you, and if you find that there is a better way, I hope you might enlighten this thread.

I also have folders set-up on the webmail version on the email account that I use to get emails to my iphone.
But neither of these seem to sync to my iphone - none of the folders show on the iphobe.
That is where I have got stuck! Any other thoughts please??

Boot Camp allows you to run WinXP+SP2 or Vista. Neither is included with Leopard. You need to buy a full (not upgrade) copy of whichever OS(es) you want to run.

How can I create a 5 minute window?

What I am trying to do is make a 5 minute window of events that happened last in my application. For some reason, I cannot get the "5 minutes" to be just that. Here is what I want to do:
I want to have events from the event structure written to a file (easy - done). After a specified amount of time ( 5 minutes ), the writing that was happening into this file "fileA.txt" ends. After this ends, a new file is created and the process of writing data to that file continues into this file "fileB.txt". Here's the tricky part: Again now, after 5 minutes, I want to replace the entire contents of "fileA.txt" with new data in this new 5 minute window. This process continues until the VI stops arbitrarily.
The goal with this is after a certain base amount of time that the VI has run, I always have AT LEAST the last 5 minutes of data that occured in the application. Worst case scenario I have only "fileA.txt" in its entirity, best case scenario being I have "fileA.txt" and for example 3 minutes and 30 seconds of "fileB.txt".
I would greatly appreciate any insite into how to finish this. The reoccuring problem for me is that I am constantly getting the Error 1, GPI ....... when the VI tries to write to text file.
I need to do this so I can troubleshoot another VI that keeps shutting down for some reason.

The common way of disabling controls is to ... disable them.
You're mixing different attempts at solutions and throws code, use 1 event-structure.
I've attached a skeleton, there's no real error handling, but it should get you started.
You can easily add a Disable-event if time is more than 5 seconds.

How can I create a pop up window for a Windows Media video file in Dreamweaver CS6?

I have a Windows Media video file on my homepage that plays automatically when you go to the website. I'd like to change my homepage. I now would like to place text that says "click here to play the video" and I'd like a pop up window to open and play the video. I'm using Dreamweaver CS6. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Can't create ODBC connection in Windows Server 2012R2

I just finished installing the instant client & odbc connection on Windows Server 2008R2. I then attempted to perform the same installation on a new Windows Server 2012R2 instance and encountered the following issue.
After extracting the contents of the 64bit instant client & odbc files into c:\oracle\instantclient_12_1, adding this to the path statement, and adding a TNS_ADMIN environmental variable, I successfully ran odbc_install.exe from an admin cmd window. I then opened the 64bit ODBC Data Source Administrator, clicked add, selected the Oracle in instantclient_12_1, and clicked finish. As soon as I did so, I received the following error: "The setup routines for the Oracle in instantclient_12_1 ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 126: The specified module could not be found. (c:\oracle\instantclient_12_1\SQORAS32.dll)"
I uninstalled the odbc client (odbc_uninstall.exe) and attempted again with the 32bit version & 32bit odbc configuration screen. I get the exact same result with 32bit as I do with 64bit.
Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Nevermind. Apparently I needed the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package for the correct DLLs
