I can't create aliases
I can't create aliases in iCloud. I logon in safari, go to the account tab, it says I have 3 of 3 aliases available. I type in something, it says it can't create an alias at this time. Tried everything and different alias names. no luck.
ok, about @mac and @me, they are basically the same. You can login on any Apple services with one or the other. You have nothing to correct there, all MobileMe users are in the same situation. You can use either emails.
Apple is confusing people a lot with this; the remark is not that they need to match, it is better if they match for people having things like [email protected] vs [email protected]
If you see no aliases in the preferences of mail on icloud.com then, I agree something went wrong with your account and unfortunatly, you need to contact Apple in order to resolve this as nothing can be done at your end.
As for your Safari issue, I guess you should post in the related forum section.

Can I create Aliases in OID ?
Hi,
Does OID allows alises for a user in separate OU?
Thanks
EricYou can create them, but OID will not dereference them at this time. Look for this capability in one of our next major functionality releases.

Hi there,
I moved into iCloud from the very beginning and started with one iCloud account for me and my family, making use of email aliases for family members. Now the number of personal iDevices grows and I want to create a new and separate iCloud Account for my son. The pity is, that I reserved his full name already as alias address on my initial iCloud account. If I now delete this alias, can I create a new account with the former alias as new primary email address?
Or is there at least any transfer procedure supported for aliases between different accounts?
Thanks for your help, lauterbachjCouldn't agree more... the folks who are getting penalized for this are the early adopters of .Mac/iCloud dating from the days when the only way to implement a "family" account was to use aliases. Now all my kids' / my wife's name aliases sit in my account, unable to move. I guess the good news is that if I delete them nobody else will get them, but this seems a pretty poor consolation.
Would it really be so difficult to implement a "move this alias to another iCloud account" option that requires the "sender" and "receiver" to exchange some sort of code to implement the transation in order to prevent fraud? -
Can I create an email address for a family member using my apple ID?
I converted to iCloud from Mobile Me in October before I created email addresses for my kids. Can I create accounts for them in iCloud?
Just go to http://appleid.apple.com and create a new Apple ID for each kid - note that you will need a different associated email address for each ID, and different from your own, but you can use free addresses such as Yahoo.
Then start a new iCloud account for each using the IDs. You will need to have a separate user account on your Mac for each kid (you should be doing this anyway, and they should be non-admin accounts) and then you can enter the ID in System Preferences>iCloud and create a new @me.com address in each case.
Alternatively you could create up to three email aliases on your own account - these are addresses, not accounts, and deliver into your main inbox alonside your mail, so everyone will be able to see everyone else's mail, which may well not be what you want. -
How many iCloud accounts can you create on Mac?
I use different emails for different purposes (subscriptions, shopping, forums, iTunes, etc.). With that in mind, I created 3 iCloud email accounts on my iPad and upon trying to register a 4th one I was told that this device is no longer eligible to create an iCloud account. Anyways, does the same rule apply to Macs (3 IDs per device)?
Why not create aliases to your primary iCloud mail account for those other email needs. That way you can access all emails from each of your devices with the same email client, Mail. On your Mac Just create a Rule to put emails to each alias in its own specific folder.

I have an iCloud email address on my iMac. How can I create an icloud email address for my wife on the same computer?
If all you want is an additional email address you can create up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account.
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account, move it to another account, or reactivate it if you delete it.

If you want to keep her email separate from yours she will need to create a new Apple ID, and use it to create a new iCloud account either on a separate computer or on a separate User Account on your Mac. -
Is there a way to create aliases for formulas without using other cells?
I have long formulas in certain cells, that consist of a bunch of smaller formulas that I re-use in multiple cells. Is there a way to create an alias for a formula (or create my own function) that I can then piece together into one big formula? I think I can use another cell to drop the formula in, but that just clutters up the spreadsheet.

it looks like you can't define own formulas or create aliases for formulas. -
Can't Make Aliases - Permissions Issue?
I recently replaced two internal drives with 750 GB SATA drives. Did a clean install of OS X 10.5 from DVD to one of the drives, updated to OS X 10.5.8, and (manually, not auto-update) installed all of the Apple-indicated updates available. Because of previous issues which appeared to be related to permissions/privileges issues, I checked the permissions settings (via Get Info) of each of the Apple-installed applications in the Applications and Utilities folders. All but one of these indicated settings to be:
system Read & Write
admin Read & Write
everyone Read only
The exception was for System Prefs.app, where the settings were:
system Read & Write
everyone Read only
wheel Read & Write (wheel? What's that?)
I was able to create aliases for any and all of these applications.
I then installed the latest HP driver package for my HP 3970 scanner (Photosmart Studio1.0), and checked the permissions status for each of the nine applications produced. Seven of the applications indicated settings to be:
system Read & Write
admin Read & Write
everyone Read only
The exceptions here were:
HP Scan Pro:
rnewby (Me) Read & Write
everyone Read & Write
(unknown) Read & Write
HP Uninstaller:
rnewby (Me) Read & Write
everyone Read & Write
wheel Read & Write
I was able to create aliases for any and all of these applications.
I then installed (in the Utilities folder) CleanApp 3.2.0, with permissions at:
rnewby (Me) Read & Write
admin Read only
everyone Read only
and was able to create an alias of it.
I then installed BIAS Peak LE and an update (to v5.21), with permissions at:
system Read & Write
(unknown) Read & Write
everyone Read & Write
At this point, an attempt at producing an alias of Peak LE failed and produced the message:
"The operation could not be completed because you do not have enough access privileges"
I also noted that with Peak LE selected in the volume window, that the File/Make Alias menu item was greyed-out (inaccessible).
When I went back to attempt making aliases of some of the Apple applications, I found that some of them would now not produce an alias, sometimes producing the same error message and sometimes just doing nothing at all. Which ones are involved seems to be purely arbitrary. Repairing Permissions in Disk Utility had no effect. I've re-run the whole installation process from scratch and wind up the same.
I've looked through the Discussions relating to Permissions problems and such but can find nothing of this nature. All I have here is a bare bones setup of OS X applications, plus three second-party applications, and all of a sudden a problem with a basic function: aliasing. With the possible exceptions of a few Name items ("wheel" and "(unknown)") I don't see any permission entries in Get Info that should prevent me from producing aliases. Can anyone see anything that should be denying me the permissions to proceed?Jeffrey,
Thanks for your input. While your response is correct, my real concern has to do with why I was able to make aliases of applications in the Applications folder initially, and then a short time later could no longer do so... as if something had caused a change in the Make Alias (menu) command. I am wondering why something like that would happen, and whether it might involve something that may cause additional problems further downstream. -
If I delete my free iCloud email address, can I create a new one for free?
Or did I blow my only free chance?
Yes, they're all free but you can only create 3 on each device, including iOS devices as well as Macs. You can use the same account on multiple devices, but you can only create a maximum of 3 accounts on each device.
This has nothing to do with email aliases. An alias is simply an email address that disguises your actual email address. This is useful to have it your want to use it for signing up for accounts on websites, etc., where you don't want to give out your real email address. Email sent to an alias arrives in the same inbox as email sent to your real email address. You can have up to three email aliases for your account, but again, this has nothing to do with the maximum of creating 3 iCloud accounts per device. This is discussed in more detail here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622. -
Can I create another email address with icloud.com. Like we can create few email on virginmedia or other provider
You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account or move it to another account.
More information on aliases here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mm6b1a490a
You can of course create additional iCloud accounts, but any one device can create only three accounts - after that it can sign into accounts created on another device but not create any more (this is tied to the hardware). -

You wouldn't happen to know how a file with byte order mark should read on a Linux system?
Or if this possible or not?

I have multiple apple phones on one account can i create a new iTunes account for other iphone
I have multiple iphones on one billing account as well as itunes. Can I create a separate itunes account for other iphone?
You don't need to create two separate libraries.
If you want to sync different content onto each device, select the device in iTunes, select the tabs across the top and sync what you want.
To make it easier, create different playlists for each device and sync only those playlists. -
How can i create a new usb connection (service) on my iMac for sharing internet from my iPhone5 ( i seem have to deleted it )
i know its not a problem whit my carrier o data plan or sharing preferences on the ipone because when i use it un my laptop it works perfectly through
the usb and even works on the Imac through wifi and bluethood tethering but NOT through usb!!.
the problem is that trying to make it work i deleted the "profile" usb iphone on the network prefereces panel. Now i only have 3 options: ethernet / wifi / bluetooth
but not the usb iPhone i used to have.
And when i try to add a new one i dont get a USB option.

this is how it looks (after the bluetooth PAN i used to have USB iPhone option)The question would be more appropriate in the Mac forums as it is not really related to the iPhone.

I have an iPad2 and a new MacBook running Mountain Lion. Both Devices use the same Apple ID which is a Hotmail eMail id. Can I create a new iCloud eMail Id and use iCloud eMail and continue to use my current Hotmail Id for my Apple Id for iTunes, iCloud.
Note, I will use both Hotmail and iCloud eMail.Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account") -
How can I create a new ring tone for my iPhone 4?
How can I create a new ring tone for my iPhone 4? I followed the Garage Band process and ended up with the ring tone I want as a AAC audio file. It got stored in my iTunes a a song rather than a ring tone. How do I make it a ring tone vs. a song? I tried dragging it t the Ring Tone category at the bottom of the ITunes list, but it won't alloow me to move it?
There's also an easy to use Applescript over at Doug's Applescripts for iTunes. It automates the whole thing. All you do is set the start and stop time on a file in iTuens and run the script. It will do everything else.
