I can't create or resize any partition on my HDD. Mac os Lion

If I try, i get a strange error: Partition failed with error:
Necessary support for resizing file systems, such as HFS + with Journaling enabled. (translated with google)
What can I do?

These issues are sometimes fixed by booting from an external Recovery HD not the one on your Lion volume. Why? Because the Lion volume and Recovery HD reside on the same internal drive whereas the external is not touching it.
Note that the Recovery HD is a virtual volume of the original Lion volume. That is, the Lion volume contains the Recovery HD at the bottom of itself. For a disk with multiple volumes, each which has a bootable OS on it can contain a Recovery HD subvolume.

after loading yosemite can't get permissions from any network PC - OK from MACs on network...any advice?

would love to...way over my head so far...upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2 - I have another MAC (motorola chipset...maybe 10.6?) and 3 PCs on the network...the older MAC linked up through the network just fine...
I can see the Yosemite MAC on the PCs...I can open customer file folders (I am a printer) from the shared drive...I can drag files (let's just call them PDFs, they mostly are) to the MAC customer file...but if I try to open them from the PC I get an error message that says permission denied - or may be in use by another user. There are no other users. After I uploaded to Yosemite, I noticed most if not all drives and or folders had permissions changed to either no access or to read only...I've changed as many as I could find...drives, and folders...I can open those same files if I'm on the yosemite mac...Here's the catch, though...I was on a different floor and that PC can open a PDF on the Yosemite...but the RIP that prints our large format prints now won't print those files (whole RIP locks up) unless they are first dragged to the PC desktop...then all is fine. I thought it was MAC upgrade oriented, but I do have a PC that halfway works...I'm really stymied...

  • Can I operate Microsoft Word once I've upgraded my Mac to Lion OS X?

Can I operate Microsoft Word once I've upgraded my Mac to Lion OS X?

Yes, as long as it's Word 2008 or newer or you're running Mac OS X Server 10.5 or 10.6 in emulation. Office 2004 and any other PowerPC-only application won't run except as noted above.

  • How can i create a /home zfs partition

I need to create a zfs home partition without been part of the aumounter.
ldap home users configuracions needs to be in /home
    disableing the automounter works.. however
automounter its needed to mount other file systems.

Edit the /etc/auto_master file and remove or comment out the /home entry. Then restart the autofs service. This should take /home out of the automounter. You can then use zfs create to create the local /home ZFS filesystem as you need it. For example, if you want /home on the "rpool" zfs pool, you could use "zfs create -o mountpoint=/home rpool/home" and then create your home directories inside that.

  • Can I create unpartitioned index on partitioned table??

    Hi,
I am not clear about the concepts of partitioned and non partitioned index.I was under impression that If we create a index on partitioned table it will be automatically becomes a partitioned index. But I cheked in my DB there are many unpartitioned indexes on large partitioned tables.
Which one of these is efficient? wht is the concept of local and global related to these partitioned and unparitioned.I am bit confused.pls help me.
    Thanks

There's nothing prevent you from creating a nonpartitioned index on partitioned table. The official name for it is Global Nonpartitioned Indexes
    Global Nonpartitioned Indexes
Global nonpartitioned indexes behave just like a nonpartitioned index. They are commonly used in OLTP environments and offer efficient access to any individual record.

  • Can't create or edit any users in 066 client

    Hi to all!
    I found that I have sap*/pass in 066 client:
I want to create this user in SU01 to cover default sap*, but I don't have address fields in SU01 in 066 client:
Because of this, I can't save the new user sap* and I got an error:
I tried to rename user with sqlplus:
    update sapsr3.usr02 set bname= 'sap*' where bname='EARLYWATCH'; commit;
It didn't help - I can't log on with this user, SAP can't see this user.
How can I create user sap* to protect 066 client ?  Thanks !

    Hi Igor,
Try with parameter login/no_automatic_user_sapstar = 0. Then restart SAP. And then you should be able to login with SAP*.
Check sapnote 68048 - Deactivating the automatic SAPSTAR user
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't load asl (styles) files in PE 6 on Mac with Lion 10.7

Help please. I read the info on this page: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/362536
Using Photoshop Elements 6 on Mac with Lion 10.7. As with other users, I am unable to load styles downloaded from net (asl files). Shapes, brushes, and patterns load just fine. Have tried placing them in styles folder in presets (that didn't work) and library application folder for styles (that didn't work). Have tried removing preferences file for styles from preferences folder and doing both of the above (didn't work).

You must delete mediadatabase.db3 in order for this to work
Put the styles into Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Photoshop Elements > 6.0 > Locale > en_US (or your location) >Photo Creations > layer styles. Note that this library isn't exactly hidden (like your user library) but it's hard to get to. The easiest way to find it is to go to the Finder preferences>sidebar and turn on this checkbox to show your hard disks in the sidebar:
then your hard drive will appear in the list on the left side of any finder window. Click it and the library you want will be at the top level of results on the right side of the window.
While you're in en_US, delete the file mediaDatabase.db3 which you will find there.
Restart PSE and give it time to rebuild the contents of the effects and content panels. Don't do anything till the icons are back there.

  • Can I create a windows 7 partition on a 1TB thunderbolt drive to use with my Macbook Pro?

I have a new Retina Display Macbook Pro with a 250gb SSD Drive that is quickly running out of space. My work recently gave me a new project to do some programming that can only be done in a Windows environment. With the price of Thunderbolt drives coming down I was wondering if I could build and boot to a Windows 7 partition on the Thunderbolt Drive and use that when I need to run Windows applications. Also what would the speeds be like? Would I be able to run apps like Photoshop and Illustrator? Also if that works would I be capable of creating a partition for my kids to install their games on?

    Redgoat,
    (1) USB 3.0/2.0 Drive will boot a windows 7 installation,  (hold down option when you boot)
    * I am not yet awake if thunderbolt drives will be detected by the macbook pro for booting purposes.  I cannot see why not
    (2) if you are concerned about speeds you can purchase a SSD USB 3.0 drive but a standard hard drive is quite reasonable with a USB 3.0 connection
and lastly MacBook Pro Retina are mean gaming notebooks and bootcamp is the best way to do windows gaming on it.

  • Can you create a boot Camp partition on a Fusion Disk?

Can I install a BootCamp partition on a fusion disc?
Can I install a BootCamp partition (Wndows 7) on a 1 TB on which OSX mac Yosemite or Mavericks has been installed first? I have a 2012 MacBook Pro, that already has a 400 GB Boot Camp partition, but I am considering replacing it with a fusion disc or an SSD since I shall have to install a windows compatible medical dictation application that could use a speedier disc. Will Mac OS and Windows interfere with each other on the SSDpart of a large fusion disc ( 1 TB) if I switch back and forth from rebooting on Mac OS , then on Windows and vice-versa? Does the SSD part of the fusion disc get confused, and will the fusion disc tolerate the installation pf a Boot Camp partition in the first place, or just give a stretch of plain 5400 RPM disc without the SSD part ?Can I

    1. On single-disk Macs, you can use an SSHD (as a single physical disk), but not an SSD/HDD. There is a no single physical unit which is a Fusion drive. A Fusion drive consists of a physical SSD and a physical HDD. MBPs on which the Optibay has an SSD/HDD and main bay with SSD/HDD will support a Fusion (aka CoreStorage volume). Yosemite supports a Fusion drive, which has an internal SSD and and external HDD (the reverse makes no sense, but is possible).
    2. On newer Macs, with 1TB PCIe flash, you have an SSD as your whole drive.
    3. The two environments, OS X and Windows are self-contained,  on separate partitions. The underlying hardware is common.
    4. On a Mini, which supports two drives, I have a 256g SSD/1TB HDD, in a DIY Fusion drive, with Windows on the SSD part. Bootcamp Assistant does not support this, but third-party tools can be used. The other option is to install OS X and Windows on a SSD, and later add an HDD and include into a CS volume. This is what I would recommend for you.
    5. The 13-in 2012 MBP will allow you use a USB installer, without the need for an Optical drive, so it is possible to replace the Optibay with an HDD, create a Fusion drive. If BCA is used, it will put Windows on the HDD on this specific machine if the Fusion drive is created first.

You can do what you said, but I don't think what you want.
You can only have two partitions on your internal drive, one for OS X and 2nd for Windows.
You could have a 2nd external drive as your data drive.
If you want 3 partitions on your internal drive, you'll have to use Disk Utility and not BootCamp Assistant; or you'll need to look into how to setup a triple boot system.
You can make a large NTFS partition for Windows, and then take a slice out of that for data, trouble being that some things won't work properly.
If you are wanting to read and write to NTFS from OS X, then Paragaon has a NTFS drive version 6.5. And if you want to read/write HFS+ from Windows, then MacDrive7 can accomplish that.
You can't install and boot Windows from USB drives.
What you want to do is easy, with a system with multiple internal hard drives.

  • Can I create an external boot drive for an updated Mac OS Maverick system?

I'm currently running Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on my 24" iMac and would like to clone my current drive to an external drive & then update that external drive to Mac OS Maverick. First, can this be done to create an external Boot drive for my iMac System? Secondly, can I then select the internal system (OS 10.6.8) or the external drive Maverick OS system at boot time?

Probably will depend on just what your machine is - i.e. how current and fast is the internal hardware.
Generally though, the performance booting off a firewire 800 should be fine for most things with little if any system lag.  My late-2008 MBP ( 2.53Ghz core-2 duo, 8GB RAM) runs quite well when booted from a firewire 800 drive (7200rpm - even my 5400rpm portable clone is perfectly useable).
Just remember if using the external for a long or serious work session, if the power goes out, that external is not going to be powered off battery (I keep my full size external drives plugged into a UPS because of that).

  • Can you setup both VPN server and Back to My Mac on Lion Server?

I have been trying to figure out if this is possible for some time. Can you use both Back to My Mac and VPN server services at once on a OS X Server?
So far here is what I have found:
    - According to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629  Back to My Mac and VPN use the same UDP ports(500,4500)
    - I have been able to get my VPN service working by removing all access for Back to My Mac(in System Preferences->iCloud) as well as removing all "Mobile Me" access on our AirPort Extreme.
The moment I try to add an account to access the network via Mobile Me(ie Back to My Mac) on the Airport Extreme, I am no longer able to make a VPN connection.
Checking the Service VPN Logs, no log entry is shown for the failed connection.
    So, my questions are:
    1. Has anyone been able to get these two working on the same server/network?
    2. Is there any way to change the default ports used by the VPN server service on Lion Server?
Thank you to anyone that can provide any suggestions.

Just as FYI....I just started using iCloud and tried the "back to my mac" on a mac server that is my VPN server.
Enabling "back to my Mac" prevents the VPN from being useable.
Disable "back to my mac" and the VPN works again, as verified from both another MAC and an iPhone.

  • Can't get Bose computer speakers to work with my Mac pro lion

I have just bought the Bose Companion 11 computer speakers for my Mac Book Pro. They are set up correctly (in the headphone jack) and they play my itunes music beautifully. However, when they are plugged in I get no sound from internet videos, etc. I have to take the plug out of my headphones jack and then I get the sound from my computer but not the speakers. Can anyone help ..I don't know what I am doing wrong...or how to get the Bose speakers to work with all my computer (internet content). I looked at system preferences and the Output says headphone port but the input says internal microphone (built-in).
    Please help.
    Thank You,
    Karen

Don't worry about offending me...I am, admittedly, no computer whiz! I have had speakers before....but I took these in to Best Buy...with my computer (Where I bought them) and the "Geek" person plugged them in and they worked.
What we did notice was that the jack that goes into the plug just below the left speaker plug was loose. So I brought it home and it worked! Then tonight I turned on my computer and no speaker input, so I checked the back of the right speaker and that plug (if that is the right name?) had fallen out...so re-connected it and they work! So, I guess I may have to tape that plug in ...or what do you suggest??...so it doesn't keep falling out.
Thanks so much for answering me.
