I can't customize my flash buttons to work?

I am using Flash CS5. In flash the program has a set of buttons already in a folder within the program so you can use them for your website and projects. For those that know the buttons most of them have a text that says "enter". What I have done is dragged the button to my stage and double clicked on it so I can edit it. From there I change the text from enter to something else like say "home". My problem is that when I click duplicate or make a copy of that button and go to change the text it changes the text for my first button too.
So I have my first button that says "home". My second one is going to say "pictures" but when I change the text of my second button to pictures it automatically changes the text of my first button from home to pictures. It seems that the only way I can get my buttons to work is if each button has the same exact text and if I change the text to one button it changes the text to all my buttons and makes it all the same text. How can I fix this so each button has a different text? I have a layer on my main timeline that is called buttons and all my buttons are on there. I am using these buttons for my flash website project but instead of creating them myself I used the ones flash had because I found them a bit more stylish for my taste. Any ideas? thanks

ok thanks again. I finally got it to work. All this time I had been editing the button by right clicking on the button itself and duplicating and then double clicking the button. But I duplicated like you said in the library and then double clicked on the library item and it worked.

Can't get flash buttons to work...'Cannot find path' Flash MX 2004

I am trying to get the flash buttons for my website to work, but every time I do the getURL thing it keeps saying 'Cannot find (directory)'. The website is offline and I'm using Macromedia Flash MX 2004, I also might be able to use Flash 8 but these are the only two versions I have access to.
The action script for the button is:

I am making the website in Dreamweaver 8 and this is really holding me back as it's nearly finished but the buttons still don't work.

Sorry I should have mentioned tha. The structure is as follows:
Website name\
                     \Animations
                     \Audio
                     \Buttons
                     \Images
                     \Scripts
                     \Templates
                     \Videos
The buttons are contained in the buttons folder and the page I want to link it to is in the templates folder. I have tried putting the button flash file in the website root directory and trying that but it didn't work.

Flash buttons dont work in Dreamweaver Preview

I have made a intro using flash catalyst. I can preview in internet explorer using flash catalyst and everything works great including all button actions taking you to a different url. I then publish to my website: I added ALL the exported webfiles into a folder in dreamweaver. I than placed the main.swf on a blank page. It views perfect in Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox. The up and over state of all buttons works, but when you click the buttons that are supposed to take you to another URL nothing happens. The buttons that change state do work completely however? I also opened the html file included from flash catalyst and it views fine as well, with the same result the url action buttons dont function.

Hi toodoo, What version of the flash plugin are you using and can you please provide an example url where this does not work?
To make sure it is not an add on preventing the button from working you can also try safe mode.

Flash buttons not working in IE7 and Chrome

Here's my website where the problem is occuring www.bakercreative.co.uk
As you can see the Flash buttons animate, but when clicked they should go to a new html page.
I've tested it in IE8 and Firefox without any problems but it's not working in IE7 and Chrome.
Does anyone know what the problem is? Could it be the html code or the flash file itself?

Flash Button not working

When in design view and choose media--flash button or flash
text, i fill out the dialog box and save file but all I see when I
hit apply and OK is a gray box with handles and a f in it. Then in
browser check it does not show at all? My computer does have flash
reader as I can see other site's flach elements properly. I
followed the DW help and an online movie explanation.
I understand that Dreamweaver can generate it's own flash
elements such as flash text and buttons.
What am I missing?

Why can't I get some buttons to work on websites? Need to enable something?

Recently, I am not able to use certain portions of 3 websites that I used to be able to use. I can get to the pages, and some buttons/links work within pages, but when I try to click on some buttons on some pages, nothing happens at all. The computer is not frozen, I can do other things on the page. Example #1 - I was trying to access my photo albums at Snapfish.com but I cannot access my albums, or select albums to which I will download photos. #2. I was trying to create a gmail e-mail address. When I tried I had a message about enabling something. Didn't know what it meant or how to do that. Any ideas on what to adjust on my computer so that I can do what I used to be able to do?

Which browser are you using? Do you have Enable Java checked in it's preferences? When you get a message it's a good idea to write down exactly what it says rather than dismiss it and wonder later what it said about something.

Can't get Next/Previous Buttons to work

I am trying to get the next/previous buttons to work on my jsp page. I have collected data from a resultset and stored it in an arrayList. My problem is that I am getting a null pointer exception when I try to display the jsp. I have a one to many relationship 1 company to many contracts and want to be able to go backwards and forwards through the contracts using the previous/next buttons. Hi, I want to costumize a control button puting on it a picture or something like that, Do I need an especial toolkit or something else?

I believe the ability to customize controls exists in all versions of LV. Just right click on the control and select Advanced>>Customize.

Can I create a Flash button and use it to navigate to the next slide of a PowerPoint Presentation?

Hello all,
I've been having a bit of a hard time understanding how to get a button which I have created in Flash to navigate to the next slide of the PowerPoint presentation which it has been added into. I'm fairly new to Flash, so I believe that this is slightly out of my natural skill range, so hopefully someone will be able to help.
I understand that I somehow need to make use of fscommand in ActionScript, but I'm not sure how I can get Flash and PowerPoint to communicate between themselves. If anyone could write a walkthrough on how to do this, I would be bery grateful.
I'm using Flash MX 2004 7.0 and Powerpoint 2003.

Hi. Why not to make the whole presentation in FLASH? What you have to do is to import all the slides inside FLASH. Then place one by one in the stills and then create the code to make the stills advance and show the slides by means of the button. The code for the button goes as follows:
on (release) {
nextFrame();
to introduce this code make sure you press the button and no the frame.
Then in order to make the presentation open and cover the screen, no matter how big it is, you need to enter the following code in the first frame:
stop();
fscommand ("showmenu",false);
fscommand ("fullscreen", true);
You will need also a button to quit the aplication. This is the code:
on (release) {
stop();
fscommand ("quit");
Now write all of this in your application and let me know your experience. MamenFLASH$

Edit... Flash button not working in Studio 8

If I select a Flash object and click on the Edit... Button in
the Properties window, nothing happens. No errors, no warnings,
nothing. Flash 8 does not open.
If I double click the Flash object, the resulting dialog
shows me that Dreamweaver knows where the .swf file is (right disk,
right directory), but the Edit... button doesn't work.
I've re-entered the application that opens .swf files in the
Preferences Menu, and I've even reinstalled both Flash 8 and
Dreamweaver 8.01...still no go.
Can anyone help?

First Flash Button Not working

I am new to Flash, so please forgive me if this is a basic
question. But I have searched and searched and cannot find the
answer. I've tried everything I can think of - but nothing is
working. I have a button I created in Flash - I've used the
following script to make the button take the user to the correct

it is not very clear that what you want by your post but if
you are looking to open the content in the same browser window you
need to write this.
navigateToURL(new URLRequest("
http://www.raycomfg.com/stump_cutters_mwf.htm"),"_self");
it will open the file in the same window make sure the target
html file needs to be in same directory in which your swf and swf
publish html file lies.
