I can't delete an old backup from my iCloud
Hi, I'm trying to turn off and delete an old backup from my iCloud, but I received an error message "Cannot Delete Backup - this backup cannot be deleted beacaus it is in use". I don't know how I can delete this old backup. Does anyone help me?
Tks
I'm having the same problem.
I just sold my iPad on eBay and will get the iPad mini Retina, so in the meantime I'm borrowing my brother's iPad.
I backed up my iPad, and restored it to my brother's one, and now I'm trying to delete the old backup, but I get this exact same message, and it's been about 9 hours since I did the restore.
To make matters worse, my 10GB subscription ends tomorrow, and I don't need any more than 5GB, and now I'm over the limit when I could delete this 1GB backup and not have to worry about the subscription ending.
I've tried deleting it from my iMac, iPhone, and this iPad.

What happens if i delete an old backup from my iCloud to free up space?
What happens if i delete an old backup from my iCloud to free up space?
Nothing. You will lose that backup but you will still be able to make backups in the future if you want to. You can also remove things you do not need from the backup, so you do not have to lose everything from your backup.

Sorry I wrote the question in the title!!
I have my iPhone 4 and my new iPhone 5 on my iCloud storage. It's now nearly full as it still has my old phone on it.
If I delete the phone from iCloud memory it won't delete the data from me new phone that was originally backed up from the old phone
Via the cloud?
Thank you very much!Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. If you don't need your old phone's backup, you can remove it. Open Settings > iCloud > Storage and Backup > Manage Storage, select the old device backup and delete it.
The new iPhone backup won't be deleted and you will keep everything on the new phone -
I have recently deleted several old backups from a portable usb drive (formated NTFS-3g(MacFUSE). The macmini can´t see it anymore but my imac does? The usb ports of the mac mini can still see my other drives formated with FAT32.
Thanks, it is working now, after I have installed NTFS3G.
I did not format the drive. I was using it as purchased to do backups for a while. After the corporate backup system was working correctly again I was using the disk at home for my homevideos. Since the corporate backup was running correctly for ten days in a row, I have decided to delete those backupfiles on the usb drive. Each backup was a folder consisting of almost 30GB data, mirroring the servers harddrive which is running on windows xp. After I have deleted those folders, only the video files remaind and I could not open the drive on the macmini anymore. -
In order to install the new iOS7, I want to backup my phone to the iCloud first. I haven't backed up my phone since June, and have deleted tons of stuff since then. My iCloud doesn't have enough room to backup my phone at this time, so can I simply delete the OLD backup from my cloud and make a new backup? *WITHOUT LOSING ANYTHING CURRENTLY ON MY PHONE*? HELP!!!!!!!!
Yes, pictures in Photo Stream will deleted. Only on photo stream not on iCloud and Camera Roll. You can login again if you want.

TS3992 on iPad: How can I delete my Mail storage from my iCloud backup?
on iPad: How can I delete my Mail storage from my iCloud backup?
Did anyone ever provide a resolution, because I am having the same problem.
My iCloud backup said yesterday that over 500 MB was being used by the Mail portion of the backup. So I went into iCloud.com, deleted all of the mail in my Sent Mail folder, then emptied the trash entirely. When I did that, it got worse; it said that 1.2 GB of the iCloud backup was taken up by the Mail backup. That doesn't make any sense. That is actually the opposite of what was supposed to happen.
Today, it is back to saying that Mail takes up 609.4 MB of space in the backup, but there is next-to-nothing in any of my iCloud email folders. What is going on?
Any suggestions you could provide would be greatly appreciated. -
How do I delete an old iPad from my iCloud? I have restored the iPad to its factory settings and linked my new iPad however the old one is still showing in my iCloud.
Hello Erin,
You can and it depends on what you are referring to. For example, are you wanting to remove you old iPad from the Find My iPhone feature, you can do that at iCloud.com and the steps for that are in the first article. If you are wanting to delete an old back up, then check out the second article to walk you through those steps.

How can I delete an old file from my library on iTunes
Occasionally I have to replace PDF manuals with ones that have been updated. But after I sync the new file the old one remains on my Mac itunes library. How can I delete the old file? So far all I do is deselect the old file but it's still there. Sooner or later there will be more old files then current ones making it hard to manage.
Thanks in advance. You can do this with or without the iPad connected to your Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac. Click on Books under the Library heading. Click on the PDFs. Then click on the PDF that you want to delete in order to select it, and go to Edit>Delete and follow the on screen prompts.
if you are using iTunes 11 and do not have the sidebar enabled, and wish to do so, go to View>Show sidebar or use the keyboard shortcut OPTION+Command+S.
If you do not want to enable the sidebar, the library items can be accessed in the button in the upper left corner of the iTunes window. -

I have a new Macbook Pro, how can I access my old backups from previous Macbook??
Hey, I reccently got a new Macbook Pro, because my Macbook died. How can I get access to my previous backups to get uni work and stuff from it? There is almost 2 years work of stuff on there that I need access to.
Is it also because I am now on Lion?
cheersTry the advice on this thread.
The problem is that you're using a different Mac. The best approach would have been to use Setup Assistant to suck your data from the old backup into your new Mac. Since you didn't do that, your manual approach may be the best option. -
Wat if i delete my old backup from my new device after reatoring in it? Do i loose the data
What if i delete this old back up from my phone i may loose my old data?
You don't lose any data, once restored your new phone will create it's own backup, so deleting backup is precisely what needs to be done.

How can I restore an old backup from iTunes?
I would like to restore a backup from yesterday. The most current backup was today because it is set on auto backup. When I select 'Restore Backup', the only option I get is the file from this morning.
I have already located the file I want to restore and saved it to my desktop. How do I select that file in iTunes when I try to back up?
Thanks.
