I had a previous iPhone, my current iPhone and my iPad that are all connected to one cloud. Can I delete the backup from my previous iPhone? Will it delete in the cloud AND on the phone? or does it just delete from iCloud? or does it just delete from the phone? Someone please help!

You can delete the backup without any problem. Only the backup will be deleted from iCloud and nothing else will be deleted, so you can do it without worrying about losing data on iCloud or your devices

Can I delete old backups from other devices if my new iphone 6 has a current backup with everything on my new phone?

    Hi there dyarrell,
You can do this if you are confident that your current device has all of the data on it that you want to keep. The method for deleting the backup will be differnt depending on the backup method. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • I can't delete any files from my external hard drives since I tried to delete backups. I can't return backups or delete anything now.

It started when I tried to delete back up files. It wouldn't let me delete them. Came up with "BootX" is locked, then "boot.efi" is locked. Holding down Option while emptying the trash didn't do anything. It wouldn't let me put them back in Backups.backupdb so I just left them in the trash.
But now I can't delete any files from either of my external hard drives. please help!

  • Can't delete TimeMachine backups from other computer

This is a follow-up to this post: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19314483 wherein I describe strange TimeMachine behaviour on my MacBook Pro and that of a friend.  That has essentially been resolved now, but my current problem is I seem to be unable to get TimeMachine to delete the backups I made of his machine while trying to fix his problems.
I Option-click on the TM menuling and choose Browse Other TimeMachine Disks.  I then choose the backups for his disk, we go into the Star Wars display and I choose a folder to (try and) delete.  The most recent attempt involved the Documents folder for an admin acccount which had hardly been used (if at all); this folder was empty.  I asked, via the Gear menu in the window, that TM delete all backups of the folder.  I then went away from my machine for over 15 minutes.  When I came back the folder was still there.
Is there some other way to get TM to delete backups, some way of saying "Yes, really, dammit, delete this thing"??  I know that sudo rm -r in the Terminal won't do me any good.
My ultimate aim would be to delete the folder for his machine at the top level of my Backups.backupd folder and thus get rid of all traces of these **** backups, but even just deleting what is taking up space on my disk would be a start!  I really really don't want to have to format my backup disk.

Your best option might be to erase the Time Capsule drive and then start over with new backups for each Mac....one at a time for the first backup.
If you decide to do this, you can erase the Time Capsule drive as follows using AirPort Utility.
    Click on the Time Capsule
    Click Edit
    Click the Disks tab
    Click Erase
The Quick Erase option will only take a few minutes

  • I can't delete the backup from icloud.

Change my iphone4 to iphone4s,use the same icloud ID.
I restore the iphone4 backup from icloud to my iphone4s,and the iphone4 will not use any more.
Now,I can see two devices' backup in my icloud.
I try to delete the iphone4 backup from iphone4s,but failed may time, why?

I have the same scenario. Few days ago replaced my iphone 4 and got a new 4S. initially i logged in with the same apple id and restore from the iphone 4 backup..That gave me some glitches so i restored the phone and decided to setup as a new device. So now i wanted to delete the iphone4 backup from icloud. I've been trying from the phone and the icloud control panel and still not able to delete it. It gives an error that itrs being used to restore a device or is in use.
I've tried all sorts of combination, deleting from the ipad, iphone, turning icloud back on/off,, iheck i even went as far as to delete my icloud account but that doest do anything. When i recreated the account, all my data was still there,, Seems like there is no way to delete your data once on the cloud!!!!

  • How can I transfer iTunes backup from my external hard drive to a USB thumb drive via my MacBook Air?

I sold my MacBook Pro to downsize to a more managable MacBook Air. I backed up iTunes to my external HD before selling my Pro, but don't have room for my whole library to the Air until I upgrade the size of my SSD. I want to see if I can transfer just the iTunes library from my external HD to a thumb drive using my MacBook.
Also, is there a way to manage and edit my iTunes library on my external HD so I can at least download some of the library to my Air?

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.
    Regards.

  • Can I copy old backups from an external HD to a new one? Thanks for your help.

I'm using time machine on an external hard disc (1 TB) for more than a year now. Now the eHD is nearly full and I would like to change to a bigger one. Is it possible to copy the backups from the old one to the new one? Thanks a lot for your help.

Hello Joe Gramm. Thank you for the link. This is what I was trying to do 2 days ago. I think the problem is, that the old eHD doesn't have the "Ignore ownership on this volume" button, while the new one has it. Therefore I tried to change the rights of access on everything (see above)... Trying to copy now brings me the following message: "Das Backup kann nicht kopiert werden, da beim Backup-Volume kein Eigentümer aktiviert ist." translatet something like: the backup could not be copied, because there is no owner activated on the backup-volume. Do you have any ideas how to change that or how to proceed? Many thanks for any input!

  • How can i delete a 'backups' from time machine for a computer i no longer have

i have been using my time capsule for a few years now, everything was great until my imac died and i had to replace it
when i did, the time capsule worked perfectly, as it allowed me to "migrate" all my backed up data onto my new machine, joy
but now, as it wants to start its backups of the new imac, there just isnt enough disk space on the drive, and i suspect this is due to every file on my new machine is marked as never have being backed up which means i need like 400G, and most of the time capsule's space is still consumed by the old backups
how can i remove this old back up from the time capsule without reformatting the whole drive (i have other machines that are still using the backup service and i dont want that interrupted)
it just seems like, since i am no longer on the old machine, i cant access that machine's backup in order to delete them (through the time machine interface), and i cant seem to find a single tutorial on how to do this that is written in non-programmer speak (i really dont feel comfortable cracking open terminal and command-lining this sort of thing)
am i just nuts or is this really all that uncommon a problem with no easy solution?!?
any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance

  • HT3275 How can I delete a backup of one of my computers from a shared time capsule?

    Hello,
I have a Time Capsule which is used for backup with Time Capsule by two Macs.
One of the Macs is currently offline and I want to delete it's backup manually from the Time Capsule.
This operation takes very long and my impression is, it can not be completed.
How can I delete the backup which is obsolete to free disk space on the Time Capsule?
    Kind Regards
    Ralph

The fastest, simplest, and most reliable solution would be to erase the Time Capsule disk. That will only take a few minutes, but you will erase the backups of both Macs when you do this. If you don't mind starting over again on the "other" Mac, that would be the way to go.
Few of us ever need the backups, especially backups from months and maybe years back, but I understand that it is not easy to think about erasing them and starting over with new backups.
Deleting an individual backup will take a long time ....that is the way that it is.
Things will go 4-5 times faster on average, and there will be much less of a chance of an error occurring if you connect the Mac using an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule for the process.
Once the sparsebundle file has been deleted, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable.
I've done this a number of times with no problems. Basically, I setup the file to delete overnight and check the progress in the morning. In every case, the file has been completely deleted when I check.

  • Epub books show up in ipad on itunes but do not show up on ipad. Also can not delete the books from ipad in itunes

epub books show up in ipad on itunes but do not show up on ipad. Also can not delete the books from ipad in itunes

You have no choice but to lose your data back to the last backup you made.
Here's how to do the recovery.  Note you may have to try to get into recovery mode more than once to succeed:

I'm sure next time, you'll be more vigilant about keeping current backups.

  • How can I delete text messages from my iphone?

    Hello everyone,
How can I delete text messages from my iphone?  I do not want to reset my iphone setting. If it is nesscary to reset my iphone setting, will I lose everything?
    Please let me know,
    Thanks,

Just delete them. Or, do you mean beyond just deleting them? Then, you'd need to wipe the phone - select Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. That's a secure wipe of the iPhone contents, takes several hours (connect to AC power). You'll need to set your phone up from scratch (and erase the old backup(s) from your computer, since your SMS history is part of the backup).

  • I've mistakenly deleted Time Machine backups from my external HDD. How do I fix this?!

I manually deleted several Time Machine backups from my external HDD. Whenever I attempt to empty trash, it states (error code -22) has occurred. How do I fix my predicament?
I understand (now) that I should never do this and ONLY delete from the Time Machine app itself but I did not assume this would be so complex by taking a blind stab at it. How do I either a) place the Time Machine backups where the originated (Put Back is not an option when right-clicked) or b) successfully delete these so I can clear my bin.
I am running Mac OS 10.10 on a 13" MacBook Air (mid-2013) w/ 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD. My external drive is a 5400 RPM WD USB 2.0 External Hard Drive.

Try Trash won't empty deleted time machine backups

  • I threw out 24 time machine backups from an external hard drive into my desktop trash and now I can't empty my trash.

I threw out 24 time machine backups from an external hard drive into my IMac desktop trash and now I can't empty my trash.

Since you didn't mention what type of error message you were seeing, I'm going to guess on what is happening.
I'm guessing that since you threw away Time Machine backups, that Time Machine is probably active on your Mac. There is a chance then that the files you tossed are marked as in use. You can't delete files that are in use.
Try turning Time Machine off, then restart your Mac. Then try deleting them again.
Once done, turn Time Machine back on.
