I can't delete my Photos in iPhoto 5.  Please help.

I ran iPhoto diet and iPhoto didn't work after running the app. I dragged my backup iPhoto Library back into the Pictures folder and launced iPhoto. It works fine, except that when I choose a photo in the Library and try to trash it...it won't trash. Help.

sorry...i think i finally understand.
after emptying my trash, all of the anomolies disappeared from my library. it is still not intuitive. over the past year, when i deleted a photo from the library it was gone. i suppose the upgrade to 5, the backing up....they all contributed to this situation.
the takeaway is that iPhoto is not as simple as it seems

how can i delete duplicates photos in iPhoto without doing it one by one? Thx

These applications will identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but the only duplicate finder app that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates was PhotoSweeper.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

If you have iPhoto '09, you cannot browse or restore seleted items from your backups.  See the pink box in #15 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
Mail should work, however, per the blue box there.

  • I can't delete my photos in iPhoto 08

Every time I try to delete photos in iPhoto they instantly re-appear in the Library! I'm deleting from the Library and putting them in Trash before deleting them; when I go back to the Library there they are again! I'm trashing from a referenced library i.e. the default setting
    I'm using mac OS X 10.5.8 and iPhoto 08 version 7.1.5

Sounds like a damaged database file.
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
I'm trashing from a referenced library i.e. the default setting
    That's not the default setting.
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • IPhoto is not deleting my photo and freezes. Please help.

I updated my iPhoto and now I am organizing and deleting some photos however it does not delete.
I tried cutting it and it went to trash in iPhoto, and tried clearing the trash bin and it does not do anything.
I also tried in the General tab to delete a photo and it freezes.
It must be a bug on the latest update.
    Any thoughts?

Oppps. just cheked and open the program while online and it finally worked.

  • Lost photos in iPhoto? Please help?

    My mac: OS X 10.8.2
My iphoto: iphoto '11 version 9.4.2
I uploaded some photos from my Canon eos 50D to iphoto. They were there that day, I was able to send a few to my friends and even watched the slideshow. So, they were definitely there.
However, today I checked the album again and they are gone. And funny how only 1 photo is left.
I checked the Masters folder and it's true that only that 1 photo is left in that folder.
I saw some other discussion about iphoto lost Canon photos.
Here are a few things I think may cause the problem:
         - I copied the iphoto library to a portable hard-drive ( WD elements ). When I connect the Canon camera to my Mac, I import the photos in the library that is IN that USB.  I even remembered import the photos in my Mac, then copy that album in the USB, then delete the original album on mac from the Trash folder. Does this permanently delete those?
         - I remembered reset the date on my camera. Does this make the previous photos change somehow, and iphoto couldn't recognize them by dates?
         - I do have back up on Time Machine, but I can't restore those lost photos using the back up.
Thank anyone if you can help me with this problem

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Can I delete files after TM backup? Please help!

I have about 100 GB of movies on my iMac and wanted to know if I can delete the movies off of my iMac after TM has successfully backed up my HD. This way I'll be able to free up some space on my iMac, and if I ever needed to get to a movie I could always restore it from TM. Will that work? Thanks!!!

I'm afraid the correct answer here is to buy another drive. You *could* use TM to recover historical data, but not a good idea. You *could* use a drive that you are depending on for backups for casual use, but also a bad idea. Part of the respect of the backup process, even though TM makes it easy to use, is investing in the right hardware for the job. In this case, that means getting yourself another drive or drive system for appropriate storage. Better yet, do you happen to have another computer that could be tasked as a file server? Not only can you use it as a repository for your movie files, but that machine could in turn serve the media back to other devices, such as Apple TVs, other laptops, or even play back the media w/o your laptop having to be involved in the process.

  • How can i delete the masters of iPhoto without losing my photos

Mac Book Pro (Mid 2012) 13 inches
256 Solid State Start up Insert in DVD Drive
1T Hard Drive in reg slot
    16 GB Ram
    Mavericks 10.9.4
    iphoto 9.5.1
I am currently keeping my iPhoto library on my 256 SS Main Drive of my MacBook Pro.
How can I delete the masters of iPhoto without losing my photos in the main iPhoto display library and all their masters and edits.
I take loads of photos and import them and then will keep only 5% of the ones that I import.  As a result I have a masters folder of over 50GB and actual photos that take up less that 5GD.  Is it possible to delete the master folder without losing all the photos and without having to pain stakingly go through every folder and pick out from literally hundreds the ones that i kept and edited.  How do I reduce the size of the masters just down to the ones that I have kept and not every single photo and video that I imported in the history of my iPhoto experience.
If I delete the master folder will all the photos and their edits be deleted.
If so, is there a way to just delete the masters that are no longer in the iPhoto library, while keeping the masters and edits of the ones that I clearly want to keep because they are the ones that I did keep.
Why do they keep the masters of photos that I clearly deleted and emptied the trash on.
I like to maximize space and this would help a lot to clear up for me.  Thank you.

All the 5000 photos that reappeared after repair today were from my canada mega event, but for some reason it did not do it for all the other mega events.  It is a start but not complete.
Try the rebuild to recover more lost photos.
If "rebuild" with iPhoto does not recover more lost photos, rebuild with iPhoto Library Manager as described by Old Toad in this thread, but rebuilding with iPhoto Library manager will not recover your projects like cards, bilks, slideshows.
Re: iPhoto glitch with retained masters https://discussions.apple.com/message/26354337#26354337
Mostly the way I organize all my photos is that I make a folder for each country I visit.  i.e. New Zealand Folder, Canada Folder, India Folder; and at the same time, any photos that I import I delete directly from new imports and just keep the ones i want and then i go up to events and move the latest imported event into a mega event for that country and so they all get joined in a sense.
As a workaround, merge the events right after importing, before you start deleting photos.  And empty the trash always before merging projects.
You might consider to use albums instead of events for your country lists.   I simply use the events as basic containers. One event for each day of shooting photos. I found, that smart albums and searches are quicker in iPhoto and Aperture, if the events are smaller, also browsing is easier, if the events are not so large.
You can merge albums and remove photos from albums without the problems mentioned above.
