I can't delete or cancel a print job

I sent a photograph to print on my HP Photosmart B209-am printer.  When I waited over an hour for it to print and nothing happened I tried to delete it.  The status has said "deleting" for several hours.  I have run task manager to cancel, I have rebooted my Windows 7 64bit PC, and restarted the printer.  Nothing will delete the print job.  What can I do next?  I can't print anything else until this is resolved.  Thank you!

Hi,
From the control panel, open administrative tools and select sevices.  Browse down to the print spooler service, right click it, select Properties and then click on the stop button.  Now browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS and delete the job inside this folder.  Reboot the computer and you should be ok.
You may need to click a prompt to gain the appropriate authority to open the PRINTERS folder.
Hope this helps,
DP-K

  • I just upgraded and now can't cancel a print job.

The icon to delete is not there anymore. It was so easy to cancel. I'm trying to print a photo and it wanted to print on paper. That mistake will waste a lot of ink, so I want to cancel the job, but can't. Of course, I could unplug my printer, but obviously I don't want to have to do that every time I want to cancel a job. Help!

No it's not, that's the reason you should click the x if you want to cancel a print job. If is has already started, pausing it will pause a partially finished job. Subsequently canceling it may cause corrupted print output or a communications error the printer ought to handle.
If there is nothing in the print queue then the job has already been sent to the printer and your Mac is finished with it. In that case, use the printer's front panel control to cancel the job.

  • Pinter won't print; can't cancel failed print job; cannot print anything

If I try to cancel a print job,  the printer dialog box claims the print job is being deleted, but it never is.  The only nway I can get rid of the message and clean up the print queue is to reinstall the printer.  This is absurd.  HP's help is anything but.  What is the problem.  I have a Deklsjet 1660.

    Debra,
Look at my solution just above your post. Go here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us
Scroll to the bottom of the page for the download link, and download it to your desktop. The link looks like this:
Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now.
Double click the icon that is on your desktop to install it. Startt eh program through "start", then "Programs".
Find Adobe reader in the list, highlight it and click the "Remove" button.
Got to www.adobe.com and download Adobe Reader to your desktop, and install it. You should be good to go.

  • Unable to cancel a print job

I need to cancel a print job so other things behind it will print.  It still appears in the 'pending jobs' list and will not go away.  It says that it is 'deleting' but it's still there.  What can I do to get rid of it.?  Thank you.

    Hi,
From the Desktop, hold down the Windows key and press R.  Into the Run window, type services.msc and hit enter.
Browse down to the print spooler service, right click it and select Properties then click on the Stop button.
Now browse to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS and delete the job inside this folder - You may need to click a prompt to gain the appropriate authority to open the PRINTERS folder.
Restart the computer and you should find the job has been removed.

  • Print queue hangs up when I cancel any print job

I'm using my Photosmart All-in-One C309 printer wirelessly. It prints fine until I need to cancel a print job. As soon as I cancel any job that's currently printing (either in the software or by pressing the cancel button on the printer) the print queue hangs up and the job that I tried to cancel just sits there saying it is being deleted but it doesn't go away and it stops me printing anything else.
I've discovered a way to clear the stuck job and get the printer going again (using the Troubleshoot option under Devices and Printers) but surely I should be able to cancel a print job without jamming up the queue completely?
I've had the printer for a year now and it's always had this problem.

Have you tried to delete and re-add the printer?
Delete the printer (select it and hit the delete key on your keyboard).  Re-add it this way:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.

  • Cannot cancel a print job

I was trying to print a photo and printer would not load the paper...so I wanted to cancel the print job. I have turned off the printer, I have unplugged it. It is still showing the print job in the cue (says deleting)....but it is not). I do not know what else to do....my printer has been tied up with this for 8 hours.

Have you tried restarting your computer?
If that does not clear the queue, you can download and run the HP Print Diagnostic Utility.
If you don't want to download the utility, this document has step by step instructions and videos for fixing Print Jobs Stuck in Queue.

  • How do I cancel a print job from my computer to my HP Photosmart 7510. Touchscreen is unavailable.

    HP Photosmart 7510 All-in-One CQ877a Model C3112; Operating system Windows Vista 64-bit.
Can't find how to easily cancel a print job. The touch screen is unavailable during the printing process (just shows the HP icon spinning around during the print process). There isn't a "cancel" button or touch area to cancel. We're wasting ink and paper by not being able to cancel jobs easily. Read the 24-page manual and it doesn't mention it. Looked on line for an answer, can't seem to locate one. Can always go to Start, Printers, and select the printer and then cancel from within there, but by then, the job is finished.

There should be a cancel button (X) on the printer. Check out the pic below taken from page 7 of the User manual for your printer:
    http://goo.gl/mW7Fy
Alternately, instead of going the Start button route, did you check out the Final tip at the bottom of the article?
    "Final Tip (Shortcut)
Before using the method above to open the print queue, look for the printer icon in the notification area. If you see it, double-click it to bring up the print queue. "

  • How to cancel a print job in progress

I have a HP C5580.  When i was using Windows ME on my former PC, I could easily go to Printers, select the 5580,  hit documents in queue, and hit cancel , and the printer stopped.
Got a new Compaq  PC with Windows 7, and I can't figure out how to cancel a print job  mid stream.  I go to Printers and Devices, giet the page that allows me to view the print jobs in queue, I hit "print job in process", but the "Cancel" is not in bold print and I can'tfind any other way to cancel the job.
    Help !

The easiest way to cancel a print job would be by pressing the cancle button on the front panel.  This is the "X" button near the right side of the control panel, see pages 10 and 11 of the user manual here.

  • Mass deletion or cancellation of background Jobs.

    hi,
Can anybody tell me the program name or the Job name by which we can cancel or delete all the jobs i.e mass deletion or cancellation of background Jobs.

    Hi,
    One clarification:
BTCTRNS1 report/program suspends all Released jobs (not Scheduled status) and make the status 'Released/Suspended' - so that they will not run during your activity.
When you will run report/program BTCTRNS2 (using se38/sa38) it will release them again.
Note: You can not freeze/suspend jobs which are event triggered. You have to set them using sm37 (released -->scheduled) - option is available in the menu.
Jobs in scheduled status never run.
Don't release/submit any job after BTCTRNS1, the new job will run (it will not be suspended). Please instruct other user also not to submit any job further.
    Thanks,
    Subrata

    More information about this game:
The game should generate a random obstacle course for the player. The first column of the grid, however, should consist of all empty pieces, with the exception of the upper left-hand corner, which is the grid location where the player initially resides.
Enter a loop in which the following things happen (not necessarily in this order):
Print the current board configuration. Additionally, a key should be printed describing what each piece is.
Get an action from the user. The player can move up, down, left, or right. Use the following controls: up = 'i', down = 'm', left = 'j', right = 'k'. The player can move at most one block at a time. Of course, if the player tries to move into a spot occupied by an immovable block, the player will not move.
Inform the player whether they have won, or if they have lost (a player loses if they step on a bomb piece).
If the player types 'q', the game should terminate.
