I can't Delete Text Messages in IOS 8

In IOS 7, when I held down "more" and checked the box next to a message, I could delete individual text messages.
Now the trash can is missing, and all I see is the input box for a new message (plus the camera and microphone icons)
I can't be the only one with this issue.  Is there a way to get the trash can back?

Try a reset on the phone. There have been others reporting this, but this seems to fix it. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. See if this fixes your problem.

  • How can I delete text messages from my iphone?

    Hello everyone,
How can I delete text messages from my iphone?  I do not want to reset my iphone setting. If it is nesscary to reset my iphone setting, will I lose everything?
    Please let me know,
    Thanks,

Just delete them. Or, do you mean beyond just deleting them? Then, you'd need to wipe the phone - select Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. That's a secure wipe of the iPhone contents, takes several hours (connect to AC power). You'll need to set your phone up from scratch (and erase the old backup(s) from your computer, since your SMS history is part of the backup).

  • Can not delete text messages without phone freezing when i reset it text messages are back

can not delete text messages without phone freezing when i reset it text messages are back...help taking up a lot of space.

    Try this...
Close out all apps (double click the home button and swipe up) then delete one thread.  Do a hard reset of the phone or ipad, then wait a few minutes and it should be gone.  I just did this with a thread that had thousands of txt and it worked for me.  The older phones just don't have much processing power.

    How can delete text messages

    Hi Berat saridas,
If you are having issues deleting a message on your iPhone, you may find the following article helpful:
How do I delete a Message?
You can delete a message by choosing More… after tapping and holding a message bubble in your current Messages conversation. Selected messages that will be deleted show a checkmark to the left. Tap the trash, in the bottom left corner, and choose Delete Message.
How do I delete an entire Message conversation?
You can delete a Messages conversation by sliding from right to left when viewing your list of current conversations or by tapping Edit and choosing the delete button to the left of the conversation.

  • Can't delete text messages.

I am a veteran bb user and have had the q10 for almost 2 weeks. I just downloaded the software upgrade 10.1.0.4189 And I problem I did not have in the past as appeared... Before the upgrade I had no problem deleting an entire text message... Or components of it. Since the upgrade I can not delete a text message... I can go into the conversation and delete components of the message... And empty every entry out of the conversation... But the persons name still appears in the texts and I can not delete it... It lets me touch the trash can. And it asks be to confirm I want to delete it.. But it does NOT delete it. I can delete emails BUT not text... Like I said this has only become a problem since I downloaded the update. 2 other odd behaviors in text are these... When I select the trash can icon it jumps to the left... Out from under my finger... And when I am in a text and I want to add a picture to a conversation... It notifies me that it is converting to mms and THEN the contact appears at the top of the message Twice and gets the picture twice... From every text after that it delivers the message to the contact twice. Since I can no longer delete a text from my bb currently I started a new message thread again with the person so they wouldnt get the message twice and although my two line only showed their name once... it sent the plain text twice AND when i looked at my sent messages it had tagged the single message on to the one that puts the person name twice The odd thing is this only happens some times... Not all conversations add the contact again... All notify me it is converting to mms. But only the first time... Then every message after that even plain text lists all sent as mms... The problem is I can not delete the thread... So my friend is being irritated by doubles of everything I send him.

Well, it was a direct answer to your specific question...if you didn't want an answer, then I'm confused why you would even then ask the question that you asked.

  • HT5047 I have downloaded Mr. Fone, my question is there anyway I can retrieve deleted text messages from months ago?  I have the phone almost two years.

I would just like to know if I can retrieve any of my old text messages?  I have downloaded that Mr. Fone, but not really too computer savvy and just looking for direction.

I have no real faith in these alleged data recovery tools. If the text messages were deleted months ago and you were still using the device, the chances are slim, even if that program works.

  • Can't delete text messages & touchscreen stalling

I am not sure what is going on but all the sudden when I try to delete a text message it won't let me.
I have tried doing it from the main menu, clicking edit; however once I select the message to delete & try to hit the delete button - the button closes and doesn't let me select it
When I try to go into a text message and press & hold for my "Copy & More" to come up it doesn't - or if it does and I select "more" nothing happens
I have also noticed in a text message if I try to get a picture to open it makes me tap it several times before it actually opens it.
Seems overall like its slow, so I went into my pictures and deleted a bunch - also made sure safari had all history & cookies deleted. I rebooted several times.
    Any suggestions?

  • Can not delete text messages

Hi, i am trying to delete empty old text messages. I have tried everything. I tried to delete them one by one. I tried to delete them by selecting them and hit delete and even tried delete prior, no luck. I tried to reset the hub, but still there. My message in the text was deleted, but they still show up in the hub. Please help, thank you.

    Hello srandazzo01,
    Thank you for your question.
You may need to delete the entire chat history for that contact. Are you able to do so?
    Cheers,

  • Can't Delete Text Messages - Treo 750

I've had this issue before on a different unit, and AT&T's solution was to simply mail me a new phone after both a hard and soft reset didn't work. After I purged my Sent Messages folder, one still remains. In the folder the recipients name remains, but the message is blank. You can open it, there is no text and if you try to delete it the "Are you sure you want to delete" message appears and after clicking yes, nothing happens. Any ideas?

And the message remains after a hard reset?

  • Can't delete text messages 'DELETE' disappears

    Hi there,
    I hope someone can help.
I have an iPhone 5 and iOS7.03(11B511) with a LOT of messages on it.  The phone seems to be running slowly (laggy) at times especially within messages.
I'm trying to free up some space and do general housekeeping on the phone to help solve this problem by deleting messages.  When I swipe left to show the 'Delete' option, it briefly shows then disappears.  I hardly get a chance to tap Delete before it goes.  Even when I think I have tapped Delete, it doesn't work.
The other way (by clicking 'Edit') shows the red and white 'Minus' sign. I tap that and the same thing happens with the Delete option. It briefly shows and then goes again.
I have powered off the phone and brought it back up again and then closed apps in the background to the minimum in the hope to free up some resource but still no joy.
My total avaiable storage (according to About) is 10.2Gb.
Does anyone know how I can overcome this problem?
    Many thanks!

Hi, thank you for the reply.  It usually only stays for a fraction of a second (like half a second perhaps).  I managed to delete a few messages last night as the Delete option stayed a little longer.  After deleting maybe twenty messages it started doing the same thing again (Delete option only staying for a brief moment).
    Thanks!

  • How do I restore deleted text message photo attachments?

I deleted a group of text messages with attached photos by mistake from my iPhone 5. After doing a restore from my most recent backup, the text messages are restored, but many of the photos only show a file name. The files are primarily jpegs along with a few .png and .mov. Should I try to do another backup and restore or is there another way to get back the missing photos?

As we know, every time you sync iDevice with iTunes, it will automatically make a backup of your iDevice contents including photos, SMS, reminders, contacts and more. Therefore, as long as you have ever synced your iPhone with iTunes, you can recover deleted text messages from iPhone. Do not connect your iPhone to iTunes again until the messages are recovered with iPhone Data Recovery. Otherwise, the old backup file will be overwritten by the current content on your iPhone. Once it happens, the deleted messages will be gone forever.

  • How can i get back a deleted text message

how can i get back a very important text message i deleted by mistake.my phone is iphone 3g
    thank you

I'm going to post what I found via Google. As I understand, it works for some, not for others, so I'm not vouching for this, so do it at your own risk:
FACT: SMS messages remain on the iPhone after deletion. When “deleted” on the iPhone, they are technically hidden and marked for deletion. Text messages are then deleted only after sync with iTunes.
In order to recover a deleted text message or messages, run through the following 4 easy steps:
    STEP 1:
Make sure iTunes doesn’t automatically sync with iPhone when connected.
    STEP 2:
Connect your iPhone to iTunes and Back up by selecting Preferences > Backup from iTunes, or right-click on your iPhone and choose back up.
    STEP 3:
Restore your iPhone by selecting Restore under Preferences. Note that restoring the iPhone will restore the previous iPhone firmware. Your iPhone will be completely erased after the new firmware is installed. So make sure your back up is good!
    STEP 4:
The final step will be to restore your iPhone from the back up you created on step 2. This will allow you to restore any data you have backed up, including the “deleted” text messages.
    That’s it!
It’s important to distinguish between iPhone data restore and iPhone firmware restore.
iPhone data restore allows you to restore data you have already backup on iTunes. This is your photos, video, text messages…etc.
iPhone firmware restore is pretty much like a restore to factory switch. This will restore your iPhone to the previous firmware or system and no user data. This option is often recommended if your suspect that your iPhone OS or iOS is unstable.
